This video was about 3 years in the making...and thanks to several viewers and friends who knew I was collecting these. They are incredibly hard to find in the wild these days! Retro gaming stores might have 1 or 2 if I was lucky. Gaming Expos would maybe have 1 or 2 if I was lucky. But thankfully I had several people looking out for me and slowly the collection built up. However at 992 commercially available... I'm not even CLOSE to owning many of them! LOL
Speaking of faceplates, In the early days of ScrewAttack I actual won one of their contests and was suppose to get a custom 360 faceplate with their logo. It was a year later and I got a t-shirt and an apology.
My brother and I found these paper inserts that would fit behind a clear plastic face plate. They were just typical patterns but the back side was pure white paper so we just flipped them around and drew on them and made our own personal deigns. It was cool just to have that option.
Man I miss the mid 2000's. I really wish they would bring faceplates back. I bought this really dope hand painted one off ebay back then and still have it.
One year for Christmas I painted a custom Cthulhu faceplate for my friend. I used the glowing green ring for his eye. Well a few months later his 360 red ringed and he got an awesome picture out of it. Cthulhu with a glowing evil red eye.
So stoked to see the faceplate video. I made a little contribution last year when I met you in Nashville. Thanks again for all your effort and hard work putting these videos together. It makes my day to see the amazing history and depth of industry info!
I only had 1 faceplate and it's special to me. A family friend went to the NBA all star game back in the day and brought me back the faceplate from that. Thought it was really cool it have and thoughtful of them.
There's actually an Xbox 360 faceplate exclusive to Australia. It was an Australian Football League licensed faceplate with designs of all of the teams in the league at that time
I recall you saying that you had quite a few faceplates and I do remember the Deathsmiles plate you have. Over 900 faceplates?! That's crazy!!! This was a fun video and it's really cool that you put this one together. Thanks, MJ.
I found a couple of these many years ago. Quake IV and Call Of Duty 2. Still in original cardboard packaging. These were good for replacing the original faceplates as the USB and memory slot cover springs used to always break and come loose.
If you have any faceplates with loose doors still, there's a great tutorial on RUclips on how to fix them with just a cable tie. No seriously, I fixed my Halo 3 edition USB door with a bread-tie from my cabinet. Just passing it on
Regarding the Linkin Park faceplate, it would have been cool if there were other band collaborations. A Metallica, Anthrax, or a "Big Four" tour collab would have been sick. I would have loved an Amon Amarth official Xbox faceplate. Imagine an official Amarth "Berserker" album face plate for the Xbox X.
The problem I had with these customizable consoles such as the GB micro, X360 and 3DS XL that the original cases and face plates were super fragile and for me who had to buy all these consoles used it was nigh impossible to buy one that was not broken or customized already...
I used to LOVE the faceplates. I had the Death Smiles one all of the Eternal Sonata ones plus a couple of the ones that were first available when the console launched. The 360 WAS pretty amazing when it came out. What really excited me was how you could have parties rather than having to coordinate with your friend ahead of time and then join each other online within a given game, IF that game had online functionality. I thought it was SO much better to be able to chat with your friends no matter who was playing what, or that you could see what your friends or recent players were doing online. Game changer back then!
I won a contest just before the launch of Gears of war.Microsoft made me fly from Belgium (EU) to North Carolina to the headquarters of Epic studio's in Raleigh. We stayed a couple of days in a nice hotel, visited the Epic Studio's and played Gears with the staff of Epic before the official release. After this amazing trip we received the special edition of Gears and a Gears Faceplate. That's the only faceplate i still own ;-) but i'm amazed by the nbrs of faceplates in existence.
I was at the Projekt Revolution Tour in Chicago in 07! XB360 was my main console at the time, so I feel like I would remember those faceplates being advertised as a giveaway during the event, but I can't recall anything. That is a seriously cool piece of gaming history!!
I went to the Projekt Revolution concert and I have the poster framed in my home. Never knew it was a 360 faceplate too! Damn that's awesome! Still happy with my DeathSmiles faceplate though.
I remember watching RUclipsrs spray paint 360 faceplates in their garage and I always thought it was so cool that you could pop it off, customize it yourself, then pop it back on.
I’m from the UK and went to Florida in 2007. I went into GameStop and bought a half red half carbon fibre faceplate. I thought it was the coolest thing ever at the time!
I have the GTA faceplate, brand new in box and never used. It's part of my GTA collection. Didn't know it was that valuable. I bought it for $7 years ago and never used it because I moved on to the next console.
Wonderful video. I had no idea these existed, my first xbox 360 was the second run of designs, so that's most likely why I had not heard of them. I am a sucker for customizability though, and I already bought one of the 3 series X face plates they sell.
My dad and I have a bunch of stock faceplates stored somewhere. Just because every time you sent your console in to get repaired they would tell you to remove the faceplate and not send it, then your refurbished one you got back had a new faceplate. So many ROD and bad disc drive repairs.
Nice mention of Astro studios. Many people don’t know about that. Also, Astro Studios spun off another company that became Astro Gaming, which made many products including the A40 headset. The A40 continued the customization story by featuring removable magnetic ear plates. 1:51
Really liked the idea of them too. The Xbox 360 is quite possibly my all-time favorite system? Hard to definitively say which is the all-time fave. But 360 is for sure at least in my top 3. I had pre ordered the first Gears Of War @ Circuit City. And gpt a Circuit City exclusive Gears Of War faceplate. It is still on my original 360 I got within the first 3 months of the launch. Also have my Halo 4 themed 360 Slim. Both work great still. I also ended up customizing the rest of my OG 360's body. To go along with the Gears faceplate.
I never got an alternate faceplate for my Xbox 360 Elite, but I didn't go out of my way to buy one. One of the more memorable practical uses for the faceplates was how Rooster Teeth used them. When they started filming Red vs Blue on Xbox 360 with Halo 3, they used custom faceplates on consoles to designate the systems each character would be on along with the designated camera/director machine. I thought that was a cool practical use for the "blank" ones that you could make with your own art. It's definitely a more obscure part of video game collecting. I think it's neat you're remembering this forgotten aspect of the XBox 360. Now days we just have to settle for DBrand skins.
I had a HALO 4 Xbox 360. Thing was awesome, it was all blue and made a Halo sound when you turned it in/off and used the disc tray. Controller was cool too, also all blue with the Halo 4 logo on it
I never got into the face plates, but remember seeing some at stores. My original console red ringed and later I got a redesigned one. Thanks for sharing.
I,m in the UK and have all 5 of the Eternal Sonata faceplate Got them from ebay basically at time of release. Had them 15+ years. They are not packaged apart from individual bubble wrap slip cases that were obviously specifically made to cover the faceplate. Didn't realise it be difficult to get all 5 cos like I said, got em as a set. Got em cos 1) ,like the game and 2) yhey are really beautiful. 😊
My first Xbox 360 faceplate was the original Gears of War. Oh man, seeing this made me tear up a bit. The Xbox 360 era was the BEST in gaming for me during middle and into high school. The 360 is the peak of Xbox at it's best. The OG blade dashboard is still the best OS to date.
I’ve got the Halo 3 with the Halo 3 wrap around the body. Still works, I was a lucky ones who didn’t red ring mine. Wish this kind of stuff was still a thing.
I have one collecting dust. It had a clear shell that you could swap out different designs. One I have for it is Transformers. It is yours if interested!
Man I had no idea that NASCAR 08 faceplate existed! As massive NASCAR fan and Tony Stewart (Guy on the faceplate) fan. I'm definitely going to start looking for that one!
Funny you did an Xbox video this week. I've been playing my original Xbox, got it hooked up to Insignia the replacement Xbox Live servers. It's cool beaing able to experience the original Xbox Live Arcade again. Oh and I have the Deathsmiles and Woodgrain faceplate.
I always had a faceplate on my 360. It’s so sad that they didn’t implement that idea to the newer design because I loved them and have a bunch of them. I usually rocked one of the transformers faceplates on mine
I used to work at circuit city for this consoles generation & we had so many of these at one point that we literally gave them away for free wkrh random purchases. Good tines.
I never really took interest in XBox until a friend gave me his 360 with a stack of games years after it was discontinued. I only learned about the face plates later in a MJR video so thanks for the introduction 🤟🏻
I owned 5 of them back in the day. Really like them. Got the Rainbow Six Vegas, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and F.E.A.R. faceplates as an Pre-order bonus. Guess what. I got The Outfit faceplate also 😅 Bought that one for couple of Euro's. Was not really a faceplate collector and sold my two Xbox 360 in 2009 with all the games and accessories. Great memories about the golden early 360 years and thanks for the video.
Hey MJR, I have a question. I have seen you first a few years ago on someone else's channel. I don't remember what channel it was. You were a guest there and you talked about Sega Genesis hidden gems. I wanted to rewatch that video, because I remember thinking "what a weird dude" and never would've thought that you had such an awesome channel.
Mjr we've experienced...Generations and I love my series x after being slightly disappointed by the ps4 era but at this point in my life...I'd love to go back to the pique of that Xbox 360 era and this video really..took us back to that time...
WOW! I never knew there were that many faceplates I knew about a few but that was about it. I don't collect faceplates and didn't knew there was a market for them. Thanks for sharing and cool video MJR!👉🙂👈
Xbox Series X does have 3 official console wraps. 2 are camouflaged and 1 is Starfield. Starfield wrap looks amazing. As for the faceplates, the best ones make use of the power button light. Bioshock 2 faceplate is pretty rad, that’s the one I have. I always felt they are kinda fragile though.
Hi Mate like your content keep it up. I'm really glad you covered the faceplates as they are unique they were so easy to switch. I'm so glad for them as a few years back I went to trade in my old 360 but as it had an England 🏴 flag faceplate they rejected it and now I love it and use it often so worked out well. Especially for PGR4 and kinect games plus the mod scene is fantastic too.
I don't know where my brother had gotten them for me from but I had all 32 NFL teams for the face plates I had a all the branches for the military and I had a couple of games for the faceplates they need to bring something like that back because that is what made your Xbox 360 totally unique for the longest time I rocked my Carolina Panthers faceplate back when Jake delhomme was still quarterbacking
I've been looking for a black Jasper 360 for this exact reason, I want to collect the Halo and Mass Effect plates. Even during the 360s lifetime, I only ever saw a handful of NFL and Assassin's Creed plates at Game Crazy.
I loved these faceplates. I was hoping those Xbox Series X wraps would be this gens face plates but I haven't heard much about new ones since they launched
Back when a local videogame retailer still had a store , i had a friend that worked there and he gave me a 360 faceplate from Rockstar with that girl in the promotion . He told me at the time it was only available as a promotion item and not for sale .
I still have the Gears of War faceplate from mad catz. I thought Sony will try to do something similar with the PS5 Console Covers, but there is just a few options for the PS5 covers...
Never knew these existed until you talked about them once before. Pretty cool idea. Only side plate I have on a console is my old PS4, bunch of PlayStation symbols. I noticed you showed a old Alienware PC, I remember having the same one but blue a long time ago, haha.
I really liked this idea, but never really got into them. A friend gave me his Bioshock one , which i think came from a pre-order and I still have it on to this day.
I collected these like crazy when 360 first launched got some real rare ones - remember getting the original Assassins creed one from Blockbuster where the store was sent one and I managed to get it
Its because Microsoft was following the modding scene for the original xbox and took some great ideas from us. XBMC was definitely influential and the countless case mods donr on the original xbox. XBox-scene held a wealth of knowledge
I got a FF13 faceplate from a friend who used to work at gamestop years ago. The customer returned it due to a damaged spring on the usb flap cover and they were gonna trash it but he salvaged it and gave me the hook up and i managed to get the flap in a working state again by hot gluing down the spring. And I got a Deathsmiles plate with my Limited Edition purchase of the game back in 2010. I'd love to get my hands on a Viva Pinãta plate at somepoint. I would've got the Coveted E3 05' one but that's way to much for my pocket for just a faceplate even if I think it's cool. Out of the ones here listed I really dig the projekt revolution one. The faceplates were a neat novelty and I felt Microsoft made a big mistake when they ditched the customization for the Xbox 360 S and E consoles.
One of my favorite parts of the PS5 is the removable sideplates. Unfortunately with the new slim model and the rumored PS5 pro, it seems like Sony isnt planning on releasing any new side plates beyond the current few solid color ones.
I loved the faceplate idea and so looked forward to all the came up with only for them to scrap the idea 😔. I at least got a decent handful of them. Too bad the Series X cover implementation looks so bad but at least the OG PS5 got plates that they themselves were scrapped with the new slim.
Awesome to finally see it all in a video man! Very cool collection so far!
Any chance of Metal Jesus Rocks face plate ?
I'm goping the ps5 side panels get the same treatment
Do you know if there's a website where you can make custom ones be cool to see a metal one
@@Nerdstrategyim surprised that hasn't really happened yet that would be probably more expensive to since you have more space on face plate
Speaking of faceplates, In the early days of ScrewAttack I actual won one of their contests and was suppose to get a custom 360 faceplate with their logo. It was a year later and I got a t-shirt and an apology.
Bummer
whaddya do with all that apology?
Seems typical of them 🤑
Classic ScrewAttack.
Probably because the faceplate was notbe made and has an alternative to give him@@dooleh84
PlayStation kind of is with the PS5, only problem being they're all boring
One year for Christmas I painted a custom Cthulhu faceplate for my friend. I used the glowing green ring for his eye. Well a few months later his 360 red ringed and he got an awesome picture out of it. Cthulhu with a glowing evil red eye.

That placement of the powerbutton on the GTA IV one though
The nipple ring of death.
😏
Microsoft started selling the Xbox Series X Console Wraps not too long ago. But only 3 variants.
I got the Starfield one. It’s all right, makes the XSX look a bit different.
I only had 1 faceplate and it's special to me. A family friend went to the NBA all star game back in the day and brought me back the faceplate from that. Thought it was really cool it have and thoughtful of them.
The passion you’ve got for the 360 and the little details really come out, MJR. Awesome video!
There's actually an Xbox 360 faceplate exclusive to Australia. It was an Australian Football League licensed faceplate with designs of all of the teams in the league at that time
I had the wood grain one... Bought it at Sears for 99 cents when I bought my XBox360. It was the only one I ever needed.
Were those real wood or just a printed pattern?
I recall you saying that you had quite a few faceplates and I do remember the Deathsmiles plate you have. Over 900 faceplates?! That's crazy!!! This was a fun video and it's really cool that you put this one together. Thanks, MJ.

True! It would be cool if there were more music themed faceplates...but sadly, there weren't many official ones.
I guess it's because Linkin Park were way bigger than those other bands at the time the 360 was around.
Been waiting for this one for so long since you kept talking about doing it. And now it's here!
It only took 3 years to get most of these for the video!! LOL
The problem I had with these customizable consoles such as the GB micro, X360 and 3DS XL that the original cases and face plates were super fragile and for me who had to buy all these consoles used it was nigh impossible to buy one that was not broken or customized already...

Wow. That sounds like cool experience
Did you get to put gel in Cliff’s hair
I was at the Projekt Revolution Tour in Chicago in 07!
XB360 was my main console at the time, so I feel like I would remember those faceplates being advertised as a giveaway during the event, but I can't recall anything. That is a seriously cool piece of gaming history!!
They need to bring this back.
THIS 👆
Jason, I’ve never owned a XBOX 360 but this was still very entertaining! That is a cool and rare collection!
That blue one at 7:06 must be pretty common as I had one too!
He finally made the faceplates video! Metaljesus has said he wanted to make this agesss ago
Only took 3 years LOL
I can believe you didn’t mention the faceplate graffiti wall! 600 faceplates lined up and spray painted by Jamie Hewlett.
Yep! I had the Viva Pinata one for years!
I loved these things honestly, and as an Xbox 360 completionist, maybe I'll try to collect some for fun
Wonderful video. I had no idea these existed, my first xbox 360 was the second run of designs, so that's most likely why I had not heard of them. I am a sucker for customizability though, and I already bought one of the 3 series X face plates they sell.

I never realized there were so many cool designs I had only ever seen the lames ones like the wood finish
Blew a hole in my diaper when I saw the price on the e3 press plate
Really liked the idea of them too. The Xbox 360 is quite possibly my all-time favorite system? Hard to definitively say which is the all-time fave. But 360 is for sure at least in my top 3. Their a faceplate of Transformers G1 Devastator and Soundwave that i always wanted at the time !!!
3:18 I need that PGR face plate!!!

Awesome video MJR! Some really cool faceplates here, some interesting ones too I had never seen. Much love from Canada.
The face plate I had was a black & white checkerboard. I loved it.
That NASCAR one looks really strange over his mouth with the power button. Lol.
I have a Gears of War edition Xbox 360, but if I just had a regular one, that Unreal Tournament faceplate would look super sexy on there.
I love the faceplates, I have FF XIII, GTA IV, Mass Effect, UT3, CoD 2, Saints Row, Far Cry 2, and Halo 3.
I refurbished my Xbox 360 and bought a dark gray/ charcoal looking one! Makes it look sleek with the matte black!
Oh man, takes me back. I had a Full Auto one that was just a preorder gift. I had a Dead Rising one too, this takes me back.

I always had a faceplate on my 360. It’s so sad that they didn’t implement that idea to the newer design because I loved them and have a bunch of them. I usually rocked one of the transformers faceplates on mine
I have that E3 one on my 360 right now. It was about 20 bucks on eBay years ago
This is super cool and I wish more consoles used this concept.
Unfortunately I've never tried these because my family's 360 was a slim model.
I used to work at circuit city for this consoles generation & we had so many of these at one point that we literally gave them away for free wkrh random purchases. Good tines.
Holy shit, Circuit City was better than Best Buy imo. I remember picking up Legend of the Dragoon on PSOne for $10.00 there as a kid.
They did make for a neat little bit of customization to your 360 back in the day.
I never really took interest in XBox until a friend gave me his 360 with a stack of games years after it was discontinued. I only learned about the face plates later in a MJR video so thanks for the introduction 🤟🏻
I had no idea there are almost 1000 faceplates for the Xbox 360! Cool collection!
I owned 5 of them back in the day. Really like them.
Got the Rainbow Six Vegas, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and F.E.A.R. faceplates as an Pre-order bonus.

My Xbox 360 has always had the blue Hot Rod pinstriped faceplate like one you show in this video
I’m actually amazed I don’t see these more often while hunting which is a real shame as they’re amazing!
The people that designed that GTAIV faceplate knew exactly what they were doing with the artwork placement for the power button
I’m going have to get all 3 of those NCAA ones I had no clue they ever existed! Love that Mascot themed one
Eternal Sonata and Final Fantasy XIII faceplates look so decorative!
I've been looking for a black Jasper 360 for this exact reason, I want to collect the Halo and Mass Effect plates. Even during the 360s lifetime, I only ever saw a handful of NFL and Assassin's Creed plates at Game Crazy.
i had an Assassins Creed 1 FP. No idea, probably still kicking around somewhere
I own the blue one with the design on it, an all silver one (sealed!), and a Halo 3 one with Master Chief on it.
Had the blue pin stripe one. I think I gave that to Goodwill along with my complete collection of Xbox
Magazine Demo discs!
I remember taking the face plate off mine and drawings the castle crashers characters on it. Wish I still had that :\
I loved these faceplates. I was hoping those Xbox Series X wraps would be this gens face plates but I haven't heard much about new ones since they launched
I almost considered collecting faceplates.. but i just ended up getting favorite ones. Bluedragon and death smiles
Yooo! Was that game trader in Madison tn? That’s my local store! Hope you liked it!
Back when a local videogame retailer still had a store , i had a friend that worked there and he gave me a 360 faceplate from Rockstar with that girl in the promotion . He told me at the time it was only available as a promotion item and not for sale .
That linkin park faceplate... brought tears to my eyes. Amazing. If you ever sell that, thats SERIOUS money. Its a banksy.
Such a fun video! Crazy that these are so hard to come by but I agree that I hardly ever see any. Very cool to see this video spotlight!
Thanks for watching!
@@MetalJesusRocks always a pleasure pal 🤘
I still have the Gears of War faceplate from mad catz. I thought Sony will try to do something similar with the PS5 Console Covers, but there is just a few options for the PS5 covers...
I do like the custom faceplates returned with the PS5. I recently got the transparent blue covers for my PS5 and looks great.
To this day i still have the mass effect faceplate always loved the color of it!
Never knew these existed until you talked about them once before. Pretty cool idea. Only side plate I have on a console is my old PS4, bunch of PlayStation symbols. I noticed you showed a old Alienware PC, I remember having the same one but blue a long time ago, haha.
Always wanted that 1. Ended up with a Dell 630i xps
Looks cool those faceplates for Xbox 360.
I started on the NES , but I can honestly say the 360 is my favorite system by far. Definitely have the most time logged on the 360
One of my favorite parts of the PS5 is the removable sideplates. Unfortunately with the new slim model and the rumored PS5 pro, it seems like Sony isnt planning on releasing any new side plates beyond the current few solid color ones.
I remember buying faceplate stickers for my 360 so that I could have a dead rising one :D
I had the wood faceplate from playasia, it was like a beech wood type
I loved the faceplate idea and so looked forward to all the came up with only for them to scrap the idea 😔. I at least got a decent handful of them. Too bad the Series X cover implementation looks so bad but at least the OG PS5 got plates that they themselves were scrapped with the new slim.
As an Xbox player since the original Xbox. I totally forgot about the 360 faceplates 😂😂😂😂
