I Built an Epic Greenhouse, All From Lumber I Cut Myself!

- We lost our hoop house in the winter of 2020, and I replaced it with a greenhouse that I cut all the lumber for on the mill. We have had two great summer in it so far and getting ready to plant it again in March 2023.
In this video, I'm sharing my experience building an epic greenhouse all from lumber I cut myself!
This DIY greenhouse was a fun project, and it was a great way to use some of the lumber I've been cutting on the mill. I learned a lot about proper foundation techniques using untreated lumber, roofing techniques, and more. If you're interested in building your own greenhouse, be sure to check out this video!
I have no idea why I said 1920, maybe subconsciously I would like to go back 100 years, but I don't think so. Anyway, I should have said 2020, I corrected it in the description and in the CC that's the best RUclips allows you to do without deleting the video and starting over. Being the video has been watched over 10,000 times, I don't think I'll be deleting it 😎
That made me laugh so hard, I knew it wasn't what u meant to say but I definitely felt the overwhelming desire to go back to simpler times 😆 thank you for the inspiration! I love this!
@@8WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot8 Yea going back to a simpler time could be what it was, although we started watching Yellowstone 1923 and I don't know how simpler it really was after watching that LOL
Lol I thought it was like '19 - '20, since the winter starts in one year and ends the next
@@Sugar-Run-Land 🤗 I'm a definitely a fan of those shows too!
@@rawr2u190 lol. I was thinking the same thing
"In the winter of 1920..."
got it, thanks
Didn't you watch this video. He had beer in his hand.
I'm still back in 1812
yeah that was 3 years ago

Honestly the “in the winter of 1920” is the best part about the video…sounds like you’re getting ready to “tell the tale” I wouldn’t have corrected it I would have just went with it 😊
Haha, maybe I should start spinning some wild tales from 1920 in my next videos!
😂 said the same, that’s what reeled me in
@@Sugar-Run-LandI would love that, I'm a permaculturist looking for things to make me laugh and brighten my day, and I'm glad your video came up, not only did I laugh out loud, which my body needed, it was really heart warming to see your greenhouse and food growing!
Don't change the date,it sounds cooler!
You know it's going to be a good story when it begins with, " In the winter of 1920." Jk. Your greenhouse is fantastic! Wish I had one.
If all they could concentrate on was the "1920" comment, they missed a helluva greenhouse. That thing is beautiful man! You should be proud!!
Thank you
Could be the winter of 19-20… makes sense if you think of it that way
Exactly!!! Winter of 2019-2020
Nice try have ever considered going into politics? You'll fit right in.
Been a dam long lasting hoop house. 100 years!!😊
That water runoff collection is gonna be really useful over time
Wish i knew how to do this. Excellent job.😊
Great project, looks very functional!
Nice!! Thanks for sharing. Happy growing everyone !!
luv the green house. There's nothing more than either building it or growing you own vegetables . so satisfying at the end results. well done sir. from 🇬🇧 an old cockney gal
Thank You
My grandmother heard stories of that famed Winter of 1920 as it was four years before her birth. 😂 I'm glad you were able to replace the previous hoop house and made it bigger and better.
The way the US should be. Trading skills and labors.
You got that right
Yesss and helping out others like me lol! I return the favor in a skill of mine, childcare, teaching, wildlife!
Beautiful work! Keep sharing!
Thank you for your kind words! I appreciate your support.
So it was 100 years ago 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm just bustin your balls buddy your green house looks awesome you did an excellent job brother that's something you should be super proud of congrats
Great job. What type of wood did you use?
Beautiful! But did you mean 2020? Lol
Nevermind I see your comment now.
I loved it made my 🧠 hurt for a second 😂😂😂
Dang lost your hoop house 103 yrs ago.
I couldn’t concentrate thinking about 1920 and how your ancestors had a hoop house back.
yea yea yea haaha LOL
Like the wooden gutters
It's okay time traveler , we'll keep your secret 😉
🤣😂
Nice greenhouse! Plants look super happy!
Absolutely beautiful! TY for sharing ❤
❤ happy new year its 1920😮😅
Let's go. I love it. Congratulations!
Winter spans the end of 2019 and beginning 2020, that is how I understood it.
Great work on your greenhouse, I'm glad your were able to transition through the loss of your hoop house.
Thanks for sharing, most impressive lumber.
Thanks, yes I love my sawmill
Lettuce looks damn healthy. Nice build!
Some biochar some fish shit some bat shit some worm castings a compost tea and some michriza and your set bro id have that thicker then the amazon ....wish i had the space for a build that big
It looks lovely! How long did it take to build?
Thanks, I think about two months to build, not counting getting the logs and cutting the lumber on the mill.
I love it !!!! I want a husband that is handy and wants to garden with me !!!!
Oh my gosh me too! I have a patch of land for growing and I have been learning all sorts of woodwork to get it sorted out. I would love a husband who can build things and likes gardening as much as me but I'm not sure where to find him, men I met on dating apps had no DIY skills and didn't know how to garden!
Me too...
Keep looking laddies, they are out there and when you find the right one you'll have the rest of your lives to enjoy this lifestyle. This June will be 48 years of marriage for my wife and I and we started going together at age 15, I often say I was born married, and I mean that in a good way LOL
@@Sugar-Run-Land congratulations on 48 yrs, that is wonderful !!!
@@Sugar-Run-Land congrats!!
I figured the date was an error but seriously u sound like an official documentary on the public broadcasting channel. 🙌 That's a beautiful greenhouse. Cedar right? Great job. 🙌 🍻
LOL yea that was one of the first videos I loaded to the channel, I still struggle with letting the real me show as far as voiceovers, but we'll get there. I wish I had access to cedar here, but know that's spruce that has been stained.
Man, I want a sawmill!
If you watch my video "How I turned Dreams into Reality with a saw mill" ruclips.net/video/_CSBNuHs4WQ/видео.html You'll hear I said the same thing for many years before I finally pulled the trigger. One of the best investments I ever made, probably would go bigger and a little more automation now, that I had a chance to run mine for a couple of years.
Those were difficult times. Amazing you were able to do this during the Great Depression. 😂 Dont worry about it we all have a brain shart or two once in a while. Very Impressive.
Brain shart, huh? That's a new one! 😂
This is awesome! Great job!
Thank you so much!
Holy shit that's incredible
You did an amazing job. Especially when they didn't have power saws in 1920! 😅. Seriously though, you did a great job. What thickness of plastic sheeting did you use?
I use Sun Master® Pull and Cut Greenhouse Film 6 mil, I buy it from Farmtek. It last a lot loner than what they say for me.
@Sugar-Ray-Land thank you so much for your reply!
I was like... 1920? How old is this guy lol. Good work though! Good looking greens.
Haha! Yeah, I may be old but my gardening skills are timeless! LOL
Where this is great! Oh how I wish I had more land and tools
I love the accidental 1920 😂
Well, this video didn't get off to a great start, 😂.
Some days I feel that old LOL
@@Sugar-Run-Land Haha, it happens, Matey. Take care.
I just found your channel, Great job it really looks nice!
Thanks and welcome to the channel
Hey there!! This is really nice! I'm impressed! Ryan just built ours but our big project will be the geothermal in a year or two. ❤
Looks great! I don't have a lot of building experience but I'm thinking about taking on some beginner projects for my plants lol. Thanks for the inspiration
I've never seen one on a hill like that. I love it!
Not much I can do in Sugar Run without dealing with a hill, I think one leg is shorter than the other walking on these hills so long LOL
I just became your 466th subscriber. Good work bro 👍
Thanks, buddy, I appreciate it.
1920 - thought I was watching The Waltons for a moment 😂
He must be Steven Hawking😊
Nice work! Thank you for the inspiration!
It is my dream!!! Woouuuu
1920??? Lmao damn my boy
I absolutely love it. The whole thing, the channel, the work, the vision. Great job all around. I'm a new subscriber with much to catch up on. I have a similar setup available to me and I'm in the planning phase. Thanks in advance for all the information and wisdom. 🖤
100 years later he got to it
10,000 view .....ya cause ur funny, 1920. At least u sound like ur from 1920 LMFAO😂😅
Yes it did come out good !!!
JESUS is GOD become HIS diciple ❤
Luke 21:28
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Great work! Well done! I'm Marie, Following from SABAH BORNEO.. Cheers🍻😊
I love it. Total cost? What are the dimensions ?
Looks amazing
Beautiful!❤ Have a beer for me big guy!!!
I was thrown by the 1920 also, but I thought about it and maybe it was the winter of (20)19/(20)20. End of 19 and beginning of 20?
I noticed the 1920 right away.lol
Good video, sawed ur own lumber 👍 and u made ur own gutters 👍 . Wood was common for gutters in 1920 , I put asphalt coating in them every few years.👍
See, now… This is the kind of man I need to marry! Please Father God, send me a husband that’s a man’s man with a heart and mind to build. I am praising you in advance. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
(Tell your wife she’s a blessed woman - ijs…🙃)
Lol! 1920!! You sound really young for 104 years old LOL! That house is amazing… It’s so cool that you did it all yourself. Do you use it year round?
Nice work! What plastic did you use? Send like you took it off after winter, Is it reusable? I've always wanted a greenhouse but our summers would be way too hot. But only using plastic in winter would be great.
Nice work! Is there cracks or warping after this time?
nope everything dried out nicely without any issues. I was just working in it yesterday getting it cleaned out to get ready to plant, probably February if this weather holds out like it did last year in PA. Got the seedlings growing under light in the basement, so it won't be long.
@Sugar-Run-Land thanks allot! I'm in for kinda similar project and have no experience. Happy new year to you from Sweden 🥳
Sweet. I'm inspired! I'm copying your style 100%❤ thank u
Wow it looks fantastic. You have excellent carpentry skills. I know im a little late to this video but fantastic job!
I thought you diverted some river water to your raingutters at first cause i missed what you said at the beginingabout a 1920 loss ? Looks awesome place some copper gutters in that trough. Than divert that river water lol aloha DSC777
I was like WHAT?? 🤣 I watched the whole thing and am amazed at how you built this. Awesome and it should hold up 100 years.
1920 might have have tough on a lot of people. Glad you made it through like the rest of us. 😂
On a serious note something to consider… adding another layer of plastic on the inside will give you about another 500 mile south growing zone.
Love the personal touch there at the end
Dream come true. Well done .
I didn't realize Woody Harrelson was homesteading :-)
Beautifully done! As someone who’s built a lot of pole barns in my career, the construction is excellent. I cannot wait til my family and I can buy some land and build a greenhouse like this.
Looks amazing man. Good job. Would love to have that in my backyard!!
I really like the wire fencing on the sides. I'll be adding your greenhouse ideas to our future To Do List. 😊
it should be think not to starve our stomach practical
Make a video on how you made your time traveling device
i only stopped and watched because he said 1920. Cool greenhouse.
This is great!👩🌾 Happy🐞 gardening!🥕🍅
Looks so good
Im gonna start all my tales with "in the winter of 1920"😂 great build tho thanks for the video
Love that one, thats a dream greenhouse. I need to win the lottery, oh yeah I have to buy a ticket. I would be in Heaven with that one.
Funny you said 1920, but we know what you meant❤😊
Just had a thought... you could use a bunch of clear vinyl shower curtain liners with grommets for the sides of your greenhouse. Easy to put up and take down on permanent hooks, cheap to replace, etc...
Bro wow
Used to drink Busch beer till they went lgbtqxyz +1
With as long as that first one lasted I’m thinking your good to around 2128.😂🤣
Sweet🍇
lovely
Awesome
Nice 👍
Any mold yet? Just curious how the raw lumber and the moisture are mixing
Nice work!
As a greenhouse builder / maintainer that poly is very loose, I'd restretch it in the summer on a hot day and get it nice and tight
Also, we don't have snow where I live so our trusses are 3m apart, so way less timber
Outstanding! Thank you for sharing, it looks great.
In the winter of 1920 I walked uphill both ways to school in the snow.
This dude been homesteading longer than my grandparents been alive.
