However, despite not being able to walk for a few weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and try to practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…we are all specks of dust…Also, thank you for all your support. It means a lot. I have suffered from anxiety from the past and self-confidence, (yeah hard to see now right) didn’t think I was ‘good, or worthy enough’ but I feel I have a new lease of life, don’t really care as much and want to show you guys what I have! : ) You are all awesome and without you, there would be no channel.
Shawn's head voice used to not be very strong. In fact, when Ed Sheeran sent Shawn a song he wrote for him (Fallin' All in You), Shawn said he couldn't sing it because it included a lot of falsetto. It was only from months of hard work that he became comfortable in his head voice and he went back in his emails to find the song, which is now on his latest album. Shawn's only 20 and has improved so much in the last few years and will definitely continue to do so. I would definitely recommend you watch his performance of Perfectly Wrong on The Late Late Show if you want a ballad!

In my opinion the best Lost In Japan performance was at the MMVAs, it was just perfect. To be honest I almost prefer his voice the way it was last year, it was much more powerful, but in the Perfectly Wrong performance he combines what the way he used to sing and his voice from today really good, which results in the perfect mixture. (And no he doesn't have a girlfriend)

Actually Shawn wasn't always so confident in his head/falsetto register. He used to do a lot of belts, and dodge some with low notes, when he dodged now he does a lot of falsetto ask head voice, he has really experimented in this new era. Well done Shawn, I love your vids btw 👍👍
6:57. Shawn was inspired by Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, Kings Of Leon, John Mayer, and Ed Sheeran. Lately he's been inspired by Khalid, Zedd, and Post Malone. Whatever Shawn listens to, he tends to produce similar but different music. He listens to a lot of genres so he produces a lot of genres which I, personally, really enjoy. He's an amazing musician and artist and I hope he makes music for a really long time 😊❤️

I think it’d be really cool if a vocal coach could watch the evolution of Shawn’s vocals and explain some of it?? I’m no vocal coach but before handwritten came out there was a like a switch to his voice. It came out much more free I think? Idk how to explain it but it used to sound very different. Especially in his RUclips and Vine cover days.

10:01 So pretty much all of his 1st album 😂 He has a song called "Never Be Alone" and he did his best performance with a symphony playing with him. You should check out "Perfectly Wrong" live on tv and "In My Blood" is always amazing live, a very intense and emotional song.
Btw Shawn Mendes wrote Lost in Japan and used Justin T. as an inspiration!

Haven't watched the whole video yet but as the Shawn expert I am I gotta say some things haha. So first of all, yes, he did get a lot of inspiration for this track from Justin Timberlake. Second, half a year ago he could barely hit a falsetto, it was really hard for him and his voice has changed incredibly, you should watch some of his older performances like for example Ruin in Philly 2016 or anything previous to 2018, but he always absolutely killed it in Ruin so that's something I really recommend if you want some more blessings for your ears. Also Bad Reputation, the queen of Illuminate Tour. It was always great too but I think some of the best performances of it were at the o2 in London last year, that was insane, although later on it evolved and became even more intense as you can see in his MTV Unplugged performance, where they added some strings that make it incredibly beautiful. Other great live performances include Like This, Mercy, Roses, high notes in Stitches, basically all of them. Okay that's it for now I might comment some more when I'm done watching.
just saw the part where you ask for ballads, most of those aren't really ballads, unless you count Ruin and Like This as ballads, but like I said in the other comment, Perfectly Wrong is the one to go. He's obviously still very young and just turned 20, but he always had a great voice, let me just look for some links cause this is basically my job and I feel a strong need to spread the word of how insanely talented and underrated this boy is.

Omg what hasn’t Shawn Mendes done?! FYI he and Camila Cabello first met when they were both 15 and Shawn was in his very first tour. Shawn’s latest album is Wonder and he also has a bunch of live performances from the album called the live experience. Check out Jimmy Fallon where he performed his Intro and Wonder from his Wonder album. It is out of this world!!!
