Heads! Big Steve had early 1970s road manager Sam Cutler call in on Jan 26 2023 and it was too good to not post! Have a listen and enjoy the incredible background tales shared by these two legends in Grateful Dead history!
    Nordy
Tour Head details forty years of crazy road stories, spanning my teen to adult life traveling to experience The Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia Band and now, Dead and Company. Tour Head chronicles the road trips, acid trips, and mind flips, and all the ensuing hijinks that went down inside, outside and in between those hundreds of concerts I attended.
In a sense, we all became an individual part of the Grateful Dead shows and a collective part of the parking lot scene that evolved into “Shakedown Street”. Tour Head rolls down a window to the ways of the road and the extreme lengths Tour Heads will go, sometimes running literally on fumes… all for that miracle ticket to enjoy one more Grateful Dead gig.
A humorous, yet unflinching look at a life spent in pursuit of a musical dream. Told from the perspective of someone who is not a musician in a traveling band, just a rabid fan, so obsessed that darkness would set in if even a few shows were missed!
From being pulled over on acid in Utah, to selling the standard veggie sandwiches, to smuggling weed, to dancing in Madison Square Garden, the stories, much like the music, never stopped. So, I’m telling them to you now, while the most precious memories are still intact! Join myself and my friends on our journey of awakening, experienced on the road, living it up across America, following the legendary tripping earth ship known as The Grateful Dead.

I waa supposed to have met up with him, and had chatted with him for awhile on various occasions . Not in any way like on each others speed dial or such but enough to say I agree with you. I'll keep the rest as hazy-forgotten memories mingled with imaginations of fiction. I am out of touch these days with any scene. Stuff happens and seems older we get, the less time there is. I'm glad to hear this and I'm glad for the music. He did a lot and went through a lot and got burned by people, who should know better, instead of having his back. The crew, never met or spoke with most of them, were one of the most solid group of individuals in that or any scene. Some like to bark, or did, and some have always seemed good people. I just wish I could have been born 10-15 years earlier to have, just to have....

He was way cool and very approachable, no airs or attitude. Splintered Sunlight is a Dead cover band from the Philadelphia area, and they are pretty damn good, videos of them on You Tube. everyone just REMEMBER it was Parrish who used to cut microphone cords and throw away recording equipment ALL THROUGH THE 1970s
Parrish is one of the Family (there was more than one) who didn't want the bootlegs made
just because Jerry liked him doesn't make he a nice or good person

@@tourhead here's what would happen: the tickets were often what was called a General Admission, which means no assigned seats in front of the stage or sometimes the whole venue
so before the show the tapers would either get to the front of the door area or come in after the initial rush and barter for seats that were in the "taping area"
then you and your friends would put together mics and tapes and recorders which had to be smuggled in
then you would hunker down in place because Parrish would stalk the stage LOOKING for tapers
so we're talking the doors open a 6 PM for an 8 PM show....that's a long time when you're tripping and trying to avoid drawing his attention
and if he saw you and your stuff he'd come down and TAKE IT, or smash it, or cut any wires
the only reason we have many of the tapes is because Parrish isn't terribly SMART
so he's only fuxk with people who were being OBVIOUS
but he stopped that by 1980, then later...what 82? we had a "tapers section" full of boom mikes and no hassles
but make no mistake Parrish didn't want the boots being made
that's WHY i don't like him or his stories
after all, some good shows have never been out on a disc for sale
THOSE ARE FOR "US" just like Jerry said many times

Who else didn't want the tapes made and why?
Steve actually broke your decks and threw away your equipment? That's rough. Was he the only one from GD? Or did security for the venues do it also? I saw regular security shut tapers down many times pre 84 taping sections.. I started seeing shows when you said Steve stopped around 80, so I never saw him doing that.
