I took up playing guitar during the pandemic back in April 2021 before I turned 33 years. It wasn't easy first, but it's possible. And even today I'm still learning new lessons. Cheers from Germany 🤘
Great video. I took up the electric guitar as an older beginner back in February 2016 (I was 47 at the time), I learned to play mostly AC/DC covers, and some Aussie pub rock), by watching and downloading RUclips videos. I did learn some songs from tab sites and a few by ear (I don’t have very good pitch). Please bear in mind, I’m only a rhythm player (lead guitar was too hard for me), and I practice on average about 1 to 1.5 hours every single day without fail. The guitar is a difficult instrument to play, but very rewarding at the same time.
You are a pure and genuine man! Thank you for the great tips and I look forward to watching more videos. I’ve been looking on the tube aimlessly and spending more time looking as you stated than practicing. Thank you for providing some structure on we’re to begin. This was greatly needed in my life and will save me money along the way. Cheers my friend
Great advice mate. Yeah I rememger us learning by ear from records and tape players. Tuff work but it did tune our ears to the different notes through repartition. Cheers🍻
@@EssentialGuitarLessons I'm in a band with my son and daughter so definately worth the effort after all the years of playing in different bands. You return home.Circle of life.lol🍻
Although my level is not nearly as good as yours most of my learning came from RUclips. Prior to the pandemic i took ten months of lessons and learned 4 chords and 2 songs but due to lockdown i had tk teach myself and found with a few strumming patterns and 6 to 8 chords you can play many songs.
I highly recommend working with a teacher who can give feedback and answer questions. How? Why? What? Where? And again, why? It can be hard for a beginner to wrap their head around even the most basic theory. After more than 35 years of having an acoustic, 2 years ago I bought an electric and am taking in-person lessons. Problem is, I now live in another country and the lessons are in my 3rd language. When I really need a really good explanation that I can understand, it can be an obstacle. I'm progressing fairly rapidly compared to my limited acoustic days, but sometimes I feel stuck in intermediate no-man's land, if you know what I mean. ... Great point about students learning differently. I used to teach English and it's the same.
I'm teaching myself as well. Up to 35 chords learnt now and gradually adding scales and eventually rhythm. I started by learning C Major, A, G, E and D, plus Am, Dm, Em. Had to learn some music theory, so for instance I could understand that the key of C is C, dm, em, F, G, Am, Bdim etc

Thank you, I am, I can play over 100 songs, I’m not very good, what I play is recognisable, probably not giggable.
