I own this exact same bass as well as the lime green 4-string variant, I recommend an ISP Decimator to cut out any noise whatsoever, I use it for my guitars as well since I play a lot of high gain rock/metal stuff and it works like a dream, discovered them after watching Rob Arnold from the band Chimaira talk about how he uses them in his signal chain to give the cleanest tone possible with zero hum, from personal experience it is easily the best noise gate in the game and I highly recommend one🤘

I'm grateful for your channel! I have a 2 year old and my fiance and I are moving across the country....so I can't exactly afford a bass right now in my life, but I know down the road I will be able to get a nice bass. This San Dimas is beautiful man.

That bass looks gorge dude, i hope you get the shielding issues taken care of, my apartment is a shoebox and between a window A/C and the other electronic stuff (mics, camera, interface, computer, tv) its like the dopler radar trying to record a clean signal.

Totally thought this was gonna be a SD 6-string but happy to see this gorgeous bass with sweet tone!! Charvel does it NICE

Hey i have the same bass, i really like it to play. Its a shame Charvel (Fender) didn't put a bit more effort into the wiring. You shouldn't have to deal with that on a new bass that is more than a couple of hundred bucks IMO. The neck and fretwork is really nice though.

I’ve been eyeballing this one. I really want a roasted neck. The Marcus Miller P10 has my eye. I currently play a violet Schecter stiletto 5 string

    Dig your grooves, dude.
I'm a guitar player..I only happened onto your video here by chance, on account of me searching for "San Dimas".
It's the name of a similar shaped guitar - if you didn't already know. You probably did, but I'm just saying cos I didn't know there were San Dimas basses..🤷‍♂️
    Who knew?! Lol.
I was also surprised to hear that a Charvel San Dimas bass has single coils.
    Anywayz...Rock on, mate!🤟😎
Edit: And I clicked on your video because it was an unboxing, and you hadn't blown the surprise yet.
    But I was
    expecting a superstrat

Sounds like the buzz drops out when you touch the strings, so it's probably shielding. My Squier Jazz does the same thing. Rather than shielding it, I just made myself a wrist strap out of some wire, a piece of elastic and a bulldog clip. I clip it onto the bridge and no more hum :)

Name of that colour? Sexy red. And as we all know, you play faster on red ones. Shielding tape will most likely fix that noise btw.

The bass, features and finish look very similar to a Godin shifter classic 5 jj, even if passive. Same price range. I just love this bass. Same grounding hum issue. (Made in Canada)

That bass actually sounds pretty great. Do a general tune up - if you have to do any work on it, just hit all the solder joints and ground wires to make sure you don't have a cold/bad one and get some copper tape and you should be good to get a full workout on it.
This bass sounds better both plugged in and unplugged than the one lobby got. for sure.
this thing already pops and burps a little, you might get away with some cap swaps or some simple tweaks like that - seems solid and you're playing it pretty comfortably out of the box.
I don't know why some people get uppity over scarf joint headstocks but as long as it plays dreamy with a sweet fingertone who cares how it was built?

I've just got one question: How come your intro music is so heavy on the synths and drum machine and not featuring some sick bass jam!?! SLAP!!!😎👍

I'm seeing this: Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass JJ V Electric Bass-Red body/same fretboard material as this in the vid, on GC used bass site. . But the pic of this one on their site has Soapbar? HH? looking style pups, not obvious JJ pups like all the Charvel PR SD I'm seeing vids of on YT.
It's used, so maybe it was modded? Just wondered if this bass was ever made with Dual HH/Soapbar pups? Maybe it's just the pup covers and there are JJ's underneath? No more description on GC site.
I'm waiting delivery of my new Sire, M2-5. First one came all jacked up. Hope the next one is in way better shape. Peace from just NE of Big H-town.

Hey!, On the Ray5..the Wilkinson Pickup, does that pickup sound sound better than the stock pickup? is it the MWM5 or a different model? I know the Aguillar sounds better, but it doesn't line up properly. Does anybody else make an Alnico replacement besides Seymour Duncan & Aguillar?

    • @BullyThaKidd

Yes it does. The aggie needs a 18 or 19mm bridge.

I’m late watching this review. I did’t have any grounding issues. I may have just been fortunate. It’s my first active bass and I didn’t realize that the eq should work passively. I may have to put those lobster upgrades on it.

it is a nice sounding bass but the preamp is shrill dogshit. it makes the highs like an icepick to the ears. and the noise is horrible.
i know it isn't the pickups.
otherwise looks like a killer bass. why not just leave it passive.

Open it up and turn down the gain on the pre-amp, take a super small Philips or blade and turn clockwise to turn down. Problem solved
