    My dad was eating at a restaurant in Hawaii around 1970 and saw Marlon sitting alone and asked if he would like company. Brando said sure and they chatted across the table for about 20 minutes. He said Brando was just a regular guy and nice. Brando said money really wasn't all the important. He'd made a million dollars it was just a number. Brando had empathy for people and my father liked him.

    the man who inspired Nicholson, De Niro, Hoffman. Who inspired Day-Lewis, Dicaprio, Depp, Hardy, Ledger, Bale, etc.
    imagine the state movies in the 70s if there was no Brando to inspire those great actors. they'd be terrible. I can't wait for this. I'm Native American so I have a special place in my heart for Brando after what he did at the Oscars.

      +BlankUberEverybody check Black Mass out then. Depp doesn't want to be a serious, dramatic actor. But not many can perform the way he can. He even said: "if I ever say I'm a serious actor, then you have permission to slap me." He doesn't watch his own movies the same way Marlon never did. The 2 were actually really close. But performing is a talent. Choices aren't. There's a recent interview, somebody asked the greatest director of all time, Marty Scorsese, if there's any one actor he'd like to work with. Johnny Depp's name slipped out immediately & it's the only name he said. If Depp took acting seriously like Day-Lewis & Leo do, he'd have 10 Oscars lol choices don't make you a good/bad actor. Brando was considered terrible and 'washed up' before The Godfather.

      DJ Standing Elk
      thanks, yeah I did watch Black Mass...long and tedious-but I think it was true to the story and somewhat close to the true life character- I dunno if Depp could convey the menace of old Whitey-Depp cant shake his prettyboy thing even when playing an aged off the rails psychopathic killer-women still wanna take him home and mammy him--where is Lee Marvin when you need him?

    • @BlankUberEverybody
      @BlankUberEverybody 9 лет назад +4

      DJ Standing Elk
      And I agree with you on Brando's selfless and kind act at the Academy Awards-He didnt want the Hollywood hype machine blowing him out of proportion-he could have taken it-all the attention and acclaim but he felt that if 50 million people were tuned in to seeing something he gave his time to what he rightfully felt was more important than a movie award which it was. He was truth and justice all rolled into one.

    I watched this yesterday...I've been a fan of Brando's ever since my film teacher in college showed us, On the Waterfront. I've always said he's top 3 of all time, but after watching this film, in my opinion he's the GOAT. This is one of the most creative documentaries I've seen in a long time. To have his actual voice narrate his own documentary was amazing! We know the talent, groundbreaking roles, persona, and his awareness of social and cultural issues; but this doc showed that Marlon was so in tuned with his thoughts and emotions as a person to the core. He was never in denial on his upbringing, his relationship with his father and his relationship with his kids and their mothers. That honesty / introspection (to me) allowed him to become the greatest actor we've ever seen on camera.

      +Eva Maria Uhl oooh nono, he was very Understood by the media, as you can see at the Oscar premiation ( 1973, the actor Marlon Brando declines the Academy Award for Best Actor). Media tried to shut him down as becoming to unconfortable for the Business of Holliwood with his stupid human rights.

    • @domzbu
      @domzbu 9 лет назад +4

      +Eva Maria Uhl nothing and no one is really understood by the media, the media is like a toddler, simple thinking only recognizing familiar objects and patterns, and with a short attention span. All this simply because most people are the same and the media survives to feed this mob.

    • @chestermarshalltaylor3717
      @chestermarshalltaylor3717 9 лет назад +4

      +Eva Maria Uhl the haters hate him and sometimes he had bad reputation was because of his hot-tempered characteristics. Many people actually did give The Godfather's director advice in which they told him not to accept Brando in the role of Don Vito. That was sad, but I'm glad that the director did the right thing; otherwise, The Godfather couldn't have become one of the most influential films of all time.

    A true man in his words. What he believed in. He kept it real but because what he went through as a child he put his emotions and thoughts into his acting. We are all actors inside but he was able to tap into it deeply than others. Unfortunately he was a victim himself but because as a child his parents never showed him love. Marlon Brando will always be a legend.

The only thing I disliked was that they glossed over his bisexuality/homoerotic feelings and the complete creep fest that Last Tango in Paris was, poor Maria Schneider. Apart from that, it was one of the best documentaries I've seen, about the best actor of the twentieth century.

    8th May 2020~ The day I met Marlon Brando in my dreams, I dont why, well because I love him, 0630 now just woke up to write this...we were at some event not quite sure what it was, but funny enough he was the only deceased person alive just for that event it seems, it seemed to be at my Old Primary school but it was heavily refurnished with nice "wood"(Victorian style feel), i remember walking through a passage in a river bed which had a placard of Marlon lying on the grass not sure what it said but his name was inscripted there, it reminded me of those WW2 ruins going into Berlin or something...I remember someone saying "Its Marlon's time in the light, he deserves it, almost as if we all knew he died but for this even everyone gives him love especially the media...i cant quite remember the befores but only the latter stages of the dream as the main event was done and all the dignatories have retreated for dinner or somewhere inside the building, i figured i need to see Marlon at all cost, I went to the toilet to blow my nose and make sure I looked good, My brother was there too I didnt look at him in the face as i was a mess and seemed only focused on that one thing, then another friend took a hold of me and didnt let go for some God damn reason, I wanted to kill him but I remained patient and pulled away, i figured I wasnt going to spoil the meet with Marlon with something petty,(somehow at the backb of my mind I knew it was a dream and these is how childish they can be, didnt wana wake up. I went to the quarters/building, asked for Marlon and was told next room, some other dude came walked by and said "Not to be disturbed" indicating to Marlons room..well i went in he was sitting on a chair taking a nap, it reminded me of his sitting position in the Godfather make up chairs slightly bend but he looked like he did in the 90's or at I would imagine around his death, not quite so big however..I said Marlon and he woke up looked at me and said yes, And then i started explaining myself quite shaky but trying to get everything in before im thrown out or woke up, I said im a huge fan and I love him and i started crying while speaking, he smiled with that broad grin as I was talking and stuttering and he also shed a few tears but maintaining his composure of course sitting there just smiling but emotional too, I mentioned the books "songs I wrote for my mother", Listen to me Marlon(audio), "the Contender" which he said Oh yea I remember helping out with that before I passed, which in hindsight cant be true cause I dont think the writer collaborated with him as Marlon was passed at the time(dream delimnas, somehow got "The songs my mother wrote me" which he contributed too tangled up with "The Contender") or maybe he meant helping out with "Listen to me Marlon" which is basically just him on tape" either way i made sure to point out they was accurate as could be and wasnt those books/content out to tarnish his name, I kissed him on the forehead its weird I felt my dads connection with him and just needed to get that in, he was so happy I thought he would be annoyed when i disturbed him, I told him im an actor but didnt talk about films because I know how he felt about that, I wouldnt anyway I love Marlon the person, raw with all his beauty and faults, his mannerisms and intelligence theres alot more to talk about, I guess in general my feeling was to let him know that we love him dearly and he inspires us everyday which i mentioned he received it well still teary and grinny...sadly I woke up and decided to put it down before I forgot, weird dreams lately but this was immensly lovely, I will never forget.

    I never met Marlon Brando. All what I know about him comes from articles written about his life, his anecdotes, and, of course, from his movies. As an actor, I think he was tops. My favorites are Julius Caesar and The Young Lions. Of course, is a matter of personal taste.
    Also, in Brando I see the drama of millions and millions of people. As he well says, the first ten years of your life are going to influence your path for the duration of it. It is unjust but that is how it is. And it takes a tremendous amount of work to straight the course of your destiny. Like millions and millions, he did not do it. He perpetuated the suffering and misery of the ones that came after him. And to complicate things even more, he took his failures and projected them in society, and then, accused society of what he had previously done over and over. If you can not control your own house, you can not go out there and tell people what they need to do. It is a mistake that we do and needs to be recognized. If each of us would take care of our own problems, solve our own situations properly nurture our families, then the whole world would fall in perfect harmony overnight. Pardon my English. I am not a native.

    I have a friend who was a teenager in the 1960's. She was in an airport in Albuquerque(with her family) when she was about 15 and Marlon Brando was sitting nearby as she was eating a hot dog. As she took a bite, the ketchup or mustard (don't remember which) on her hot dog squirted onto his shirt! She was mortified and quickly rushed to clean his shirt...when I asked her his reaction she said that he laughed - thought it was funny. Didn't surprise me...Brando was a down-to-earth kind of guy.

    I cant f*cking believe i did not live in his era. Just look at his smile. He was born on stage, he was born for stage. Clint Eastwood is a joke beside him. The only actor that may reminds me about him is Bale. And he's barely half this good. Probably Johny Deep is equally talented. Just my 2 cents

      +Hai Le Quang Clint is a great actor too. Brando is amazing but no need to demean Clint. It all looks easy from the couch!

      What about Robert De Niro? He might have been influenced by this legend, but De Niro is the best actor ever, in my opinion.
      Could at least have mentioned him ;-;

    • @HaiLeQuang
      @HaiLeQuang 9 лет назад +1

      Eric Cartman De Niro was good too. But I personally find him so so. He made acting look natural and as if he's the character.
      However, he's lack the WOW factor to me. He has not surprised me in any of his role.

    • @EricCartman-mx5wg
      @EricCartman-mx5wg 9 лет назад

      Hai Le Quang You get that "WOW" factor in pretty much anything. But he convinced me without even needing to give it to me. He was the character in pretty much every of his movies. And he doesn't overact any of his scenes (from what I've seen so far). He keeps it natural, cool and professional.
      And look, when I watched Raging Bull. It came so far that I nearly forgot that I was watching DeNiro. No, I thought I had went through the life of Jake LaMotta. Or Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver.

    • @HaiLeQuang
      @HaiLeQuang 9 лет назад

      Eric Cartman That's right and exactly what I thought while I'm watching him. He barely ever reacts in acting. I haven't watched Raging Bull and Taxi Driver yet. Will try.
