    This was both hilarious and painful to watch.
    She spent all that time planning, and then… got it all wrong.
    And what made it better/worse was her attempt to fluke this task later in the episode… and she got it wrong again!

    She completely overthought it when it’s really just a simple task. Ask any duck if it’s on the red team, then you’ll be able to know if their team is lying or telling the truth. From there you can just ask each duck if a different duck is the goose and it will technically be a different question since you’re using a different number.

    • @tommartenmark5786
      @tommartenmark5786 15 дней назад +1

      Yes, but you also want to minimize the number of questions asked, so you want to eliminate as many ducks as possible after finding out which gang is always lying

    • @cbot9302
      @cbot9302 14 дней назад +9

      @@tommartenmark5786 So you do a binary search and once you know which side is telling the truth, ask a duck in that group "are ducks 1-5 actually ducks." If yes, you know it's in 6-10, if no, 1-5. Then, if for example the duck answered yes, ask another truth telling duck, "Are ducks 6, 7, 8 actually ducks" and then you just repeat. Guaranteed in 4-6 questions

    • @Aprixx
      @Aprixx 13 дней назад +2

      @@tommartenmark5786 yep so question number 2 will always be 'Is the goose on your team' and that'll eliminate half, it's actually really simple since you have easily verifiable information at the start.

    • @arandombard1197
      @arandombard1197 13 дней назад +1

      No, you can skip that question as well. You can word the question to lie-proof it.
      "If I were to ask you if X is true, would your answer be yes?" - A truth teller will just give the correct answer. The liar would normally give you the wrong answer, so they'd have to lie about that answer and tell you the truth.
      Now it's a simple matter of asking questions to identify the goose. Divide them into halves "is it in this half" and go from there.

    • @6022
      @6022 12 дней назад +1

      The way to get around it without losing a question is to run it through two of them of different colours. AKA, "Duck number one, if I were to ask duck number two if the goose is even numbered, what would they say?" That way you can ensure it's either a true representation of a lie, or a lie about a true answer, so you can always invert the response.
      This lets you do a simple binary search again, cutting ten possibilities down to five, but then you can only guarantee going to three, then two, then one, if your luck is bad.
      So, even if you get it perfectly logical, you can't guarantee answering it in fewer than four questions, which makes Lloyd's four question result even more impressive!

      I *think* the longest was on Norwegian taskmaster, Kongen Befaler, where they had the 'don't blink' task, and Bard Ylvisaker took a camera home with him, all while not blinking once. I have a dim memory of a really long task on Portugese taskmaster, but I don't remember 100%.

    The key is to use double positives/negatives in your question like start with a statement if true or false yes/no statement then reaffirm if that same statement would still hold true if said by another party in that question. This forces the truth-tellers to always say yes and the liars to always say no.

    • @6022
      @6022 12 дней назад

      It's like the old "One door always lies" riddle used in the film 'Labyrinth', although it's way older. "If I ask the other door, what would he say is the safe one?"
      Run the responses through both teams and you know it's the inverse of the truth.

  • @tallergeese
    @tallergeese 19 дней назад +3

    I dunno what the optimal solution is, but i think you should probably start with asking one one of the ducks is on blue team to verify if blue team is lying or telling the truth. Once you know that, they're effectively all telling the truth, because you can discern the truthful answer regardless of their team. Then it's a matter of narrowing down the traitor as efficiently as possible. I'm absolutely certain that's some sort of classic computer science algorithm, but the one that occurs to me most readily is to just continually divide the groups in half. Were there 10 ducks/geese?
    -Are you on blue team?
    -Is the goose on blue team?
    -Does the goose have an odd or even number assigned?
    -(If even, there are two left at this point.) Are you the goose? Done.
    -(If odd, there are three left at this point.) Is the goose to your left or right? If no, then the duck you just asked is the goose. Done.
    -(If yes) Are you the goose? Done.
    So 4-5 questions. I'm almost certain there's gotta be a more efficient method though.

    For those saying the first question should be used to find out if a duck's team is lying or telling the truth: it's not necessary. and wastes a question Just ask 'what would another duck on your team say if I asked [question X goes here]' and it will always give you a true answer to question X. Basically just a variation on the old 'what would the other one say' solution.

  • @jefferyanderson8236
    @jefferyanderson8236 17 дней назад +1

    Go round the circle and go ‘would (duck on the other team) say you are the goose’ this means that every duck would say yes except for the one who is the goose which would say no and it doesn’t matter which team is lying since you reference both teams in the question. Edit, even more optimal strategy might be to narrow it down by halves ‘would the other team say that the goose is between numbers 1 and 6’

    • @6022
      @6022 12 дней назад
