They never paid John enough so it should not have come as a surprise that he went somewhere else. I find it funny that Howard was being paid millions of dollars by the station but is angry that they won’t “gift” him minor items such as tissues and toothpicks.
Never paid him well enough? Dude had a house with a pool on long island on the beach + a huge apartment in Manhattan for stuttering on the radio. He was paid better than most people in the industry by far. I don't blame him for leaving as it was an easier, better paying gig but John being poor is a huge lie that he perpetuates now. The only reason he's broke now is his ex-wife got tired of him and took him to the cleaners.
It was only a surprise because of how dumb of a move it was by Leno. John's talentless.

Fred’s contribution to the show over the years begins and ends with playing the same fart noises for 20 minutes straight when anything to do with the bathroom or sex is brought up and ruining the bit. Other than that, he did the 0.0 thing with ETM, and even that was from Artie bringing up the quotes from the movie it came from. Both times he was the topic of a famous bit, Rainbow Room and his wife making him a beta male and E! showing him on camera, front row watching his wife make out with another man, he threatened to quit the show and threw a fit with his fake tough guy routine lmao. He’s an albino Chucky doll that’s so disgusting to look at and Howard respects him so little, he literally made a wall in front of Fred’s corner that blocks Howard from being able to see Fred’s face during the show 😂 Howard was right on the money when he criticized Fred’s contribution to the show. The unsung hero of that show over the decades is Gary. By a mile. That dude is never phased, and if he is it’s almost always because he understands the show and he knows it’s good radio. He has basically ran a live circus, every week, for 40 something years with the most extreme schedule, personalities and egos. He’s the real glue that keeps everything together.
100% agree!! Fred is way overrated because he is kept from being seen or heard. The little he is seen or heard, he is ridiculous. Gary is the best off the show. The rest are lunatics.
Wow, Fred was my hero, but now I might have to agree with you.. the repetitive hand trumpet sound that he would lean on for decades, the constant "Baba Booey" button, that was a recording of Gary's voice, and it was never funny.. the nickname itself was, never Fred's Baba booey button.. and if someone was getting picked on, Fred was always the first to pile on with his almost bully like child's chorus laugh.. I always wondered how could someone so smart think that piling on like that is funny, low-hanging fruit..
I just cannot stand Gary because he is a major bootlicker, and really is full of himself. Plus I cannot stand him hosting the wrap-up show. However, thank goodness he has thick skin like jackie, because we got lots of laughs.
