This is one of many things I'm going to make when I get my IQ next week... maybe not the first day but within a few days! Great video explains perfectly.
WELL THATS A PROJECT IM GUNNA DO WHEN I GET MY BIGGER CNC THIS MONTH BUT REALLY ENJOYED THE VIDEO WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY IT WENT FROM START TO FINISH AND THE END PRODUCT I WAS AMAZE HOW NICE IT CAME OUT. WELL DONE
Wow - this is really convincing and incredible work. As someone who makes guitars with hand tools, people often assume that this means that I am anti-CNC, but it's not the case at all. I really respect the skill and technology used here, as well as the great results. I saw someone mentioned the lack of bridge and tailpiece holes in a comment. They're not missing at all, but should be done once the neck is in place for perfect intonation. Also, not putting in the holes means that one can choose later whether or not to have a wraparound bridge or a tailpiece/bridge combo.
* I'm just another person watching the video... But I'm here because I'm in the process of piecing together a CNC router/mill and coincidently, making an electric guitar with it is one of the things I want to do! This guy really knows his stuff and made a great LP. I'd be looking to make a much simpler one. I'm thinking a neck-through telecaster.
Floyd Rose has a newer top mount Whammy bar for Les Paul's, SG's, and other guitars with a tune-o-matic bridge. There's only one style LP where the Tune o Matic schematics do not line up. You can still use it with minor routing. The only holes that are needed are for the locking neck. I don't know exactly how long ago they came out but the top mount design saves a lot of router idiots who think they can get everything perfect within a mil. for a regular Floyd to fit and ruin a guitar where some run into the tens of thousands of dollars. I Know they can go a lot higher but you get my point. You can get them now for $225.00-$275.00 depending on be the color. You can also use them on other guitars be that you do not want to run the risk ruining the guitar where or marring the world. Plus they are made in Germany still like the original. I love what CNC Machine's can do. It is truly amazing. But if you want to mass produce guitar's you need at least 6 beds. A real CAD operator and a host of other expsive tools.
hi guys great video, i was wondering if you could tell me what model vortex router bit that is. i meant the long double flute one that gets smaller up the top. regards simon
Great video. When you touch off the bottom of the round-over bit, I imagine that you make contact with the bearing shaft (the part of the bit that formerly held the bearing). This shaft sticks out below the half round carbide cutter. So the z-position is now not in the right spot -- the bit will need to travel on a lower plane so that the round part of the bit is cutting at the right height. How do you adjust for that?
The Vectric Aspire he uses for the CAM portion is only Windows compatible. So you run it in VMware fusion or Parallels. Rhino which is the CAD portion is available in MAC. You can always run everything straight on Windows and not have the MAC, but lots of folks run this hybrid Mac/Win setup.
Why did you do a pocket around the outside of the guitar body instead of a external profile? The pocket required 2x the passes that a profile would need and therefore took twice as long...
With the longer bed it is possibly quite possible, feel free to speak to one of our CNC specialist. Call us 800.234.1976 to discuss more. Thank you for your interest.
Whats the estimated amount of time it would take to cut out a guitar body with this cnc? I'm weighing out the options between my current process by hand and automation
Great and useful video! Lots of stuff here. One thing: doing an angled surface with a flat end mill results in rounded inner corners. I guess it's acceptable because of the low angle value and because, of course, the neck will be rounded too and this avoids interference. Right?
Great stuff, Bob. I learn more from your video's than any other CNC tutorials on here! What model of cutter is the Vortex you use for the deep pockets and final edge passes? they look like they give a good chip and finish. What is your feed rate when using these Vortex tools? Many thanks, Alan.
Sorry the Les Paul files were only for demonstration purpose and are not available for distribution due to copyright issues. Thank you for your interest.
If you partition your hard drive, you can have part of the hard drive running windows. You can switch back and forth between the two operating systems when you boot up.
I love this editing and music, great job whoever edited this video.

Very eloquently put. I felt that in my soul.

I recognise that inlay from MyLesPaul forums... must be Barnaby right? I remember following a few of your threads. Awesome work dude.
Cheers! Yep - that's me! I'm really fascinated by what you have demonstrated here.

naycnay Oooops! Sorry about the mixup. Yeah, I agree that this guy really knows what he's doing. Very impressive!

This is absolutely awesome I'm definately buying one of those machines and making my own guitars
great video sir you did a great job of showing how its done
wonderful video - and the prices in 2017 are amazing. magic...
Really interesting. You're a fantastic explainer.

Fantastic video, thanks for posting! That looks like a very high quality machine!
Excellent ! very nice and well presented video ,can we please have one on cutting the neck too , that would great thank you .
great demonstration!
Very nice video. Where did Router Bob buy the bits that he uses. And what are the specifications?
Unfortunately we don't know the specific tooling he used for this video, but we do know that they came from Vortex Tool: www.vortextool.com
windows on a macbook or am I high?
Yes with a specific program, you can run windows on a mac.
Thanks for this informative and entertaining video, nice to see so much detail in making this instrument.
I enjoyed watching the entire video, very awesome!! Thank you for sharing this.
What a beautiful machine!

Great video, well worth the watch. You've put a lot of information in here that most videos gloss over. Thanks for the effort.
Great video. What is the vortex 3/8 inch deep pocket bit model number.
Had trouble finding at Vortex.
Thanks
For quicker response, pllease call our CNC Division at 800.234.1976 - Thank you for your interest.
Thanks for the video, very interesting,
I run some CNC machines at the school I work in.
I've definitely learnt some useful tips from watching.
Very interesting to see guitar made this way.
Router Bob, can the neck be run on the IQ long bed with a 4th axis or do you need to go with the Swift to make the whole guitar on one machine ?

So well explained , great general tutorial for CNC .. Thanks
very good educational video...
Show us more projects with a cnc router...
thanks
What software comes with the machine?
Great video but you forgot one thing to program and that's the binding channel that runs around the perimeter of the maple portion of the cap .
guess its a studio :)

Where do you get the mill specs on a Les Paul?
Excellent video BTW.
For more information please call us at 800.234.1976 and ask for CNC Division.
Can I snag that program I bought one of your machines lol plum boards!! This is awesome!!!
Great stuff, thanks for sharing! Where can we buy the long router bits?

Thank You, Respect!
Can you make a guitar neck on this too?
Yes, check out Chuck Marfione and his Guitar Neck Demo on his IQ CNC at ruclips.net/video/-p0D82otZwQ/видео.html
If ever the CNC business dries up this guy could make a packet doing George W. Bush impressions ;)
How much is the cost,?
