Just harvested my first eggplant of the season and it was from an overwintered plant. My overwintered peppers are full too! Maybe I can't grow brussels sprouts here but I can overwinter plants right where they are! Gotta go with what works!

My tip with canning is 100% to get an electric canner. Better temp control and hardly any splashing!

    Hi Epic team,
I have a small backyard garden and I want to grow one plant each of several different squash types. Will this work or will they cross-pollinate and just make Frankenstein squash? Is 12-16 ft away from each other enough space to prevent this? Thanks!

Hi! I'm not part of the Epic team but I'm a Master Gardener in Alameda county - you only have to worry about cross pollination if you're saving the seeds! The fruits (squash) wont be affected, they'll grow as expected, but the seeds likely will be affected by cross pollination and won't grow as expected (they'll likely grow to be Frankenstein squash). If you aren't planning on saving seeds, then no need to be concerned! cestanislaus.ucanr.edu/files/111648.pdf

And when your freezer fills up you finally cave and learn to can...🫣
Jacques: have you tried brining some of your spring grape leaves? Super easy, just blanch them and store in brine in the fridge. Homemade dolmas (or Bulgarian sarma} are fabulous!
