There isn’t a ton of gameplay in Iron Lung. You’re a prisoner forced to search an ocean of blood on some planet. You navigate a submarine and see very unsettling things. Worth a play through or watch through. I’m excited to see what Markiplier does with the movie. He’s been putting a ton of work into it.
16:45 The movie actually does set up his roller skating during the montage with him and Collette on their dates. In that scene Collette is struggling to skate while Linguini helps her. Its right as they pass the mime which is basically the same model of Bomb Voyage from Incredibles, which is a funny little easter egg as well
My favorite dinosaur is the Carnotaurus. Even smaller arms than the T-Rex, but they were fast & very effective hunters. Out of all the dinosaur designs from the Jurassic Park franchise, my personal favorite is the Male Demon Carnotaurus that was in both Fallen Kingdom & Dominion, which is inspired by the Demon Carnotaurus figure that was released by Kenner back in 1994.
I first saw them in Dinosaur that Disney cgi movie and Dinosaur King basically Pokémon with dinos
@@HectorLopez0217 I am very familiar with them and I can easily imagine that movie being a lot of people’s first introduction to this awesome species despite it being much bigger than its real life counterpart. Which is why I like the name Carnotaurus Rex. My very first exposure was actually seeing the images of both the Series 2 Demon Carnotaurus and the baby version from Kenner which came with Dr Snare. Both figure I sadly never got as a kid since they were rare even back in 1994. To this day, I still want both figures on my collection despite them being difficult to find in good condition on eBay. Thankfully we have the outstanding Male Demon Carnotaurus statue from Nanmu and the infant Demon Carno figure from Mattel to fill in the void, although I’d love to see Mattel make a 2nd variation of the Hammond Collection Carnotaurus (which I have 3 copies of) based on the Male Demon Carno from FK/Dominion. That would be sweet! ^-^
I remember the Carnosaurus from Fossil Fighters back on the DS. It wasn’t very good, but it was cool as hell!
@@tylercoon1791 neat! Carnotaurus is such an awesome dinosaur who thankfully has gotten it's well earned popularity despite only 1 complete fossil ever existing which was found back in 1984. ^-^
I asked the dino question and Carnotaurus is my fav too!
Seems to me like we need someone to make an Arcane quality adaptation of Scroty McBoogerballs.
Fringy still mispronouncing Yoshi. It's like clockwork.
I posted this in a fucking superchat which they all forgot about, but I use the japanese pronunciation of Yoshi, which is Yo Shi. Japanese basically only have one way of pronouncing their alphabet. A = ah, E = eh, I = ee, O = oh, and U = ooh. Fringy heavily botches the pronunciation of Yoshi, not only calling it Yashi, but adding a little more of a drawl to it, closer to Yawshi.
This has bugged me too, but we know who he's talking about😂
It's funny how he says, "I'm fine with people pronouncing it Yoshi, but people get mad when I pronounce it Yawshi. Weird."
Probably because you're one of two people on the planet who pronounces it that way, and it's objectively incorrect.
If Fringy were Texan, he’d call it Y’allshi
In smash bros his character selection shout is ambiguous "yah-shee" when it should be a solid O sound.
Well when a Japanese person mispronounces something everybody thinks it's cute and gives them a pass. But when an American mispronounces something everybody jumps on their case and criticizes them. So I guess just live with it.
From the Jericho Writers website: The difference between anti-hero and anti-villain:
"the anti-hero does the right thing, but not necessarily for the right reasons. Whereas the anti-villain does the wrong thing, but their reasons are often understandable."
I remember watching a video on the Ankylosaurus in elementary school that called them "walking tanks". This makes them objectively the best dino

Any art that’s ambiguous in the sense that it requires pretentious people to pretend they know something you don’t, is as much art as it is an invitation to indulge in sophistry and little else.

15:10 They show a scene of Linguini teaching Colette to rollerblade. Its right there.

For anyone curious, the criteria for salvation is pretty explicit in the Bible, that being if you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are saved (for references, see Acts 4:12, John 14:6, Ephesians 2:8-9, and ofc, John 3:16-18). The Bible is pretty clear on this. However, there are mainly 2 points of contention: baptism and good works.
Note: I am not familiar with Orthodox Christianity, but I'm going to assume for the sake of this comment that they align with Catholics on this issue. It also must be noted that the evidence for this is reliant on which translation of the Bible you use, as human bias can often interfere with accurate translation. Some words in the original languages don't have a clear equivalent in English, thus the translators must choose how exactly to translate the word/phrase/sentence/verse into English. I myself was raised in a Protestant church, so I think I have a leg to stand on regarding this issue, but some bias might show in my explanations. Moving on!
The first is easy: baptism. Catholics believe baptism can save, Protestants do not agree. Protestants see baptism as a way of public expression of their salvation, like a wedding ring. This schism comes from interpretation, and to be frank, the Protestants are correct. 1 Peter 3:21 states "There is also an antitype which now saves us-baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ" (NJKV). Catholics see verses such as Mark 16:16 ("He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned" (NJKV)) as a counter to this, along with many other similar verses that mention salvation and baptism in the same sentence. However, this does not contradict the belief of the Protestants. The answer to this conundrum is that baptism is a sign of obedience, but does not grant salvation by itself. One must believe to be saved, and gets baptized to express it.
The nature of good works is very similar. Catholics believe one must do good works to be saved, Protestants believe that the good works are the signs of a true believe, but do not save by nature. Ephesians 2:8-9 expresses this clearly, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast" (NJKV). An additional verse to support this is John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (NJKV). If Jesus is the only way to the Father (ie salvation), then good works alone cannot be a way to salvation according to Jesus Himself. Again, Catholics are wrong on this.
Rags does make an interesting point when he said that this should be clear. Frankly, I 100% agree. It's a shame that the most fundamental aspect of Christianity (besides the divinity of Christ) is so debated when the Bible itself is quite clear on this matter. I wish to make clear that human errors have led to this confusion, not the Bible itself. Salvation by nature is a simple task, and it should be. The Bible supports this, as if the way to God was complicated, then no one would be saved, as humans are not perfect creatures. Saying that salvation relies on the constant struggle to perfection is anti-Biblical.
TL;DR: God made salvation is simple, people said otherwise
Thank you for all this. I think religion becomes much easier to understand when u realize that while the words may be from God, humans have been mucking those words up for thousands of years. Imo as a mostly unreligious person but who does have some faith. I would always say it's more important to have strong morals and be a good person.
Is talking about what constitutes art, art?
@MooLer PLS play _Iron Lung_ on stream. It's only an hour long (depending on play style).
Whole game takes place in a single-room submarine you pilot blind using coordinates and a map; the only visual you see of the outside world is via your camera console that only takes still images when you stop the ship.
It's a neat picture-hunt game with a "heat-death of the universe" cosmic horror theme and top notch environmental-storytelling that makes you go peepo-sus the further into the map you get.
Easy one-off stream recommendation.
If Arcane was released today, how many people would see it as a Gaza allegory?
EFAP is the worst thing to ever happen to Rags
59:47 I wish I was meming, Fringy, but it's the unvarnished truth
Crazy how these guys are so well-spoken, logical, and charitable when it comes to media, but the second religion comes up, they make the worst-faith assumptions and completely write off the idea that their interpretations aren't what most people *actually* believe.
Interesting to hear that many Poe fans dont like this series. I myself by chance stumbled across some podcast that involved some Poe fans and they were nerding out very happily about this show. Which was cool to listen to cause Im not very familiar about his works :)
I would describe Magneto as an archetypal anti-villain.
Why?
Magneto’a goal is mutant supremacy over mankind and he is not shy about murder, kidnapping and acts of terrorism in order to achieve his goal.
@TheJarlOfJyttland because despite all of that, he's eschewed his villainous traits several times to the benefit of humanity. Read Magneto by Cullen Bunn or play X-Men Legends 2. He's not pure evil, he sometimes goes against what it means to be evil. Just like an antihero is not fully good and will go against a hero's morality to reach a goal even if it is a noble one. Magneto is nuanced. He's even one of the quintessential frienemy's in popular fiction.
19:25 Sounds like fan content, so grey area. Basically theft, but done with the absence of bad intentions usually. I don't like people cracking down on fan content, but recognise it as a right.
Cannot believe no one brought up Magneto during the Anti Villain discussion, I think he’s the basis of the trope tbh. He has noble causes but his methods often lead him to oppose our heroes, but he’s also known to team up with them when things get dire. SMH
I just saw this comment! That's who I said in my comment. You hit the nail on the head.
I think that one of the best examples of anti villains in modern media is Mr Hands in cyberpunk Phantom Liberty. the man has moral qualities but in the end is playing the game for his own gain. he will team up with the hero because their goals align, but he aims to keep the status quo and take power in the slums that he resides in. well written character imo
59:47 Not my superchat but my viewing was eerily similar. My mother even called it woke at the end. I've given up understanding them at times
the funny mustache man from the 40s had some good rat but the perspective in some of his paintings was bizzarely shit
maybe those are some of his earlier works, im not quite sure
Dr. Huey from Dune is a great anti-villain, he has good motives and intentions and does try to help the Atredes, but he also betrays duke Leto in order to take out Baron Harkonen
also keep in mind results kind of determine the hero/villain status in a story, if you beet the bad guy as an asshole anti-hero, if you hinder the hero or defeat them with good intentions anti-villain
I would actually say Loki is an anti-villain in Thor 1.
My definition of anti-villain may be a bit different. I’d say an anti-villain is someone who does evil things for empathetic reasons.
In Thor, Loki tries to genocide the Ice Giants. This is clearly evil, but there’s reason to empathise. In his mind, he’s proving his worth to his father, after years of being in Thor’s shadow. He’s also just found out he is actually an ice giant, and is having an identity crises, but chooses his adopted family over his own blood.
“I could have done it father. For you. For all of us.” Is the line I think of in particular.
I like that one, though the same could be said for Punisher which most will fight you on.
My definition that applies to the most cases is
Antihero = sympathetic renegade. Antivillain = corrupted voice-of-reason.
Loki starts off as Thor's voice of reason, but his desire to do good for the wrong reasons corrupts him into a villain.
Other antivillains are people like Commodore Norrington trying to hang Jack at the noose because of anti-pirate principles overriding all the good that Jack did.
Lord Denethor whose desire to protect his lineage and circumvent destiny drives him mad.
They usually represent the corruption of the law into evil, which in turn creates the antihero's rebellion against them
Antihero = someone you start off expecting to be an antagonist, but you watch their actions and by the end you're not so sure. Antivillain = Someone you start off trusting to be a paragon, but you watch their actions and by the end you're not so sure.
Jack Sparrow is an antihero; Commodore Norrington is his antivillain.
The Ghost-King of Dunharrow is an antihero, Lord Denethor is an antivillain.
Joker is (in his own framing of the story) the antihero; while the great Thomas Wayne turns out to be something of an antivillain.
Shadow is the apex antihero; The General is the apex antivillain.
Usually it plays out as Chaotic Evil becoming Chaotic Neutral VS Lawful Neutral becoming Lawful Evil
If antihero is the sympathetic rebel, antivillain is the lawman fallen from grace.
And like how there's a line an antihero crosses to become a full unambiguous hero, there's also a line between an antivillain and a full villain.
Lord Denethor is a prime antivillain; he's a respected leader we have good cause to sympathize with, but his paranoia and nihilism has blinded him to the point of self-destruction.
But Saruman is a full-villain in that he isn't just overcome by his situation to become something he's not; he's actively choosing to instigate a massacre unprovoked.
Like how the classic antihero deciding to put himself _in danger_ to rescue someone usually marks him becoming a full hero.
So i suppose the antihero is like a passive hero who reacts to a bad situation in an indirectly good way, who can then either regress into being just a vagabond or he can step into being a full hero proactively seeking out a solution. And the antivillain is a passive villain who doesn't mean to cause any harm but allows themselves to be complicit in or overcome by malice, who can then regress into being a good man deciding this isn't who they want to be, or they can progress into proactively seeking to harm people as a full villain.
As far as sonic rivals goes I think knuckles and blaze to a lesser extent do it better
I don't hate shadow tho
Should of stayed dead after sa2 imo
I do believe that was intended idea, Shadow wasn't supposed to come back in Heroes during its early development, that changed when someone at Sonic Team (likely Yuji Naka) suggested to bring him back due to how popular he was with fans.
And we haven't recovered from that decision ever since.
Character-wise I like Shadow in '06 unironically.
@@samwallaceart288 Based, the best depiction of him was in 06 and that only worked due to a technicality (06 intended to be a reboot of franchise early in development)

Anti-hero= someone doing bad things for good reasons, i.e. Wolverine, Punisher
Anti-villain= someone doing good things for bad reasons, i.e. Lex Luthor (at times), or irl Bill Gates or Elon Musk, depending on your personal views.
Trying to save the world so that you can secure control over it is Anti-Villain stuff.
Bill Gates isn't trying to save the world
Yeah I think of it as "rebel you start to sympathize with but can't wholeheartedly condone" VS "lawman you respect but slowly corrupts into a tyrant you can't follow"
When people think of the tropes, it's usually in the context of Chaotic Neutral VS Lawful Neutral as a starting point growing/corrupting into Chaotic Good VS Lawful Evil
Yep, that was my thought process as well. The example I thought of was an antihero would murder indiscriminately if it meant saving one or more innocent people. Conversely, an antivillain would save people indiscriminately if it meant more people to control or exploit later on, for example.
We all agree saving innocent people is an inherently good and moral thing but the method in which that's achieved and at what end goal is what determines whether or not the anti is to heroism or villainism.
Did you bring enough snacks for the class, Moobler? Diggin' that crinkle-crinkle ASMR. 🤪
I feel like Fringy would really like Deinonychus, the real life version of the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park. A channel called Your Dinosaurs Are Wrong has a good couple of episodes on Velociraptors - also, they have a lot more episodes than are on their main channel. Their older episodes are on a channel called Chaotic Good. Also also Giganotosaurus > T. Rex.
Or the Utahraptor which is one of the largest raptors to ever exist, and was found around the same exact time that Jurassic Park came out.

Urgh, painful to hear people who've never played Max Payne 1 and 2, saying that Max Payne 3 is great. It's awful. Play the originals.
As painter getting their degree I understand the confusion and debate around modern art and the subject. All I can say is All opinions are valid to a point. Most experienced painters I’m studying under think a lot of the stereotypical splatter bullshit paintings are that, bullshit. But sometimes they give great reasons as to why some are visually appealing, the use of mark, color, movement, and space can be picked a part by experienced painters as to why it’s successful or not. But it’s subjective as far as enjoyment in the end. I feel modern art especially gets misinterpreted without the context it’s made from, we are told that works are important without a more in depth reason as to why, a lot of the abstract expression work from the 40s and 50s were in response to WW2 and Cold War and what the purpose art was. Speaking of purpose the early days and springboard for modern art at the turn of 20th century was the invention of the camera. A lot of painters were questioning their roles as artists since their job for most of human history of documenting the world was given to a box. That opened up the doors to explore the mediums they’ve been working with explore their feelings and contextualize the world around them at a more personal level. I think that’s the importance of the modern art movement not the art. Cause let’s be honest a Rembrandt is much more interesting than a pollack or a kandynski. However as a painter and art student there are some painters like Rothko or Kline that I can find visual interest in, mostly because I’m predisposed to the act of painting big canvases. People like richter is Also a great post modern painter. Also people confuse modern and contemporary a lot. Modern 1910-1970, contemporary=now.
When I saw the art episode, I thought I had a fantastic idea. I thought I might shave me bottom, fill paint in little latex balloons, push em all up the ole bunghole, lay on my back in front of a large canvas on the ground... and you know, shit out some art. Of course I found out that someone already did that. I guess it's back to plan B, painting with testicle blood...

I love Hill House and Bly. Not a big Poe fan, but I got the references. Usher was awful. What an embarrassingly terrible show. What happened to the writing? Did Flannagan take a break from good characters? Also, can't believe anyone thought the show was scary. The jumpscares were incredibly predictable and poorly executed. The chimp scene in particular had me cracking up laughing. Just a bad show overall.
Star Wars: Visions had an amazing first season with each episode generally being great....then the second season happened and the quality dropped off a cliff. The show itself should've been simple to understand. An anthology series with various stories set in the galaxy far, far away. The sudden shift in quality from one season to another was rather unfortunate.
I watched 1½ episodes of season 1 and stopped because every episode is just shitty _Seven Samurai_ in a Star Wars costume. Yawn.

In Japanese it's always YOH-shee. American voices in Smash don't count
Would Tommy Lee Jones' character in No Country for Old Men be an anti-villin.?
Defunct Paragon more like.
For antivillain, the most _useful_ definition for me is he's the corruption of social norms whom the antihero is justified to rebel against.
Like Jack Sparrow rebelling against the Commodore Norrington, where at the end you sympathize with both of them and neither one is 100% good or bad. Throughout the trilogy Jack and Norrington flip back and forth between being trustworthy or traitor, principled or blinded; at the end Jack is the rebel who saves the sea and his friends, and the Commodore is a corrupted man who sees only too late that his misplaced sense of duty led to the very evil he was hoping to destroy.
@samwallaceart288 I get it. Since he isn't corrupt, not an antivillan.
