I made a dining table out of black walnut for my new house. Read more about black walnut here: www.wood-database.com/black-w...

Welcome to my woodworking channel. I am passionate about taking the most wonderful woods mother nature created and turning them into beautiful objects of day to day use. This is not a DIY channel about teaching the woodworking craft, showing you new and nifty techniques about how to build wooden objects or anything alike. It’s about celebrating nature’s beauty and providing inspiration for projects of your own.
Thanks for your support!

Beautiful! Looks great in the new space!
Thank you. Its only the beginning - we are not living in there yet 😀
Como no podria ser de otra manera.....casa NUEVA......mesa NUEVA......Felicitaciones querido Javi por ambas cosas......Un abrazo grande. EMV
La mesa vieja es muy chica 🤣🤣🤣
Cool video and nice table.🙂
Thank you so much :D
very nice!
Thanks, appreciate the kind words 😁
this is beautiful! Does this table need a support beam under the walnut top?
Thank you, Yifan. No, there are no additional support beams. The only support ist provided by the steel bars that connect the legs. I was also unsure at first if it would work, but it works like a charm. The slabs are pretty thick (around 6cm) and after 6 months of use everything is still nice, aligned and flat.
Getting ready to do the same thing. Did you use clear resin or black? It looked clear when you started, but the finished product looks like the cracks are filled black. Thanks!
Great stuff! The resin is transparent, not black. It looks pretty dark together with the wood, but it’s transparent. Have fun with your project!
@@Woodensoul Thanks! I was going to use black but I think I will stick with clear.
You can try both options on the backside and check what you like better...
What kind of belt sander do you use? Home made? Never seen this design b4. Thx. Nice table work!
Hi. It's called a Stroke Sanding machine (ruclips.net/video/nrI6GRZ5T3k/видео.htmlsi=d09fHmvzYhwQkE1d), it's not home made. It was already in the workshop I rent, so I totally lucked out, but if I ever need to find a new workshop, I will have to buy one, it's so useful. Thanks for your kind words, happy if you like my table work...
Thanks for your reply. Nice machine to have access to!
Ahw... that is so kind of you! Thank you!! I hope you still find a use for it and that you will love it. And thanks for your kind words, I am pumped to hear if my videos are helpful!
Respect to the wood and the work you've done. May I ask; is it possible to use a darker colored Rubio Monocoat to even the colouring at the edges? I've got a pinewood coloring problem and the best product for the job seems to be Rubio. But I cant solve the problem of color consistency.
Hi Ethan. Yes, generally speaking, Rubio comes in many colors (www.rubiomonocoatusa.com/pages/oil-plus-2c-colors). You could try to use a different color for the live edges, but know that you might need to do some pre-tests to figure out what works. But high level, I am a little surprised about your live edges being significantly different color than the rest. Especially for pinewood, which is very white, the live edges usually are also white, except if you left bark rests on it. But a clean pine live edge should be pretty white, like the rest of the wood.
@@Woodensoul Yes you've diagnosed the situation very well, its more of a darkness-brightness problem than different colors. I wiped out the paint of the doors and the wood used (pine) was not at best condition. In fact the carpenter used some junk boards, some are deeply burned. So I sanded to the limits and there are still dark areas. I was thinking to balance by mixing some blacks to the main color, and use it on brighter areas.
But my main concern is; although I aim to get a look of walnut wood after finishing, Rubio or any stains make pine grains look like negative film. I mean, the dark lines become light and light areas become dark. What I want is; darks and lights darken together. Just like in walnut. Can you recommend a solution for this?
@@EthanTheEx Oh man! That problem sounds hopeless to me. You can't make pine look like walnut, even with Rubio Monocoat. You are right, it will change the color, but it won't look like walnut. And if you still have stains, then those stains will remain visible. I can't recommend a solution for this, except painting it with a paint that fully covers the wood (like it was before I guess?), which obviously isn't nice. Or replace the doors, haha
@@Woodensoul Ok now I'm crying loud and ugly. Painting is not an option after that much exhausting and injuring(slipped discs) work of paint removal. Torching the doors seems better, but it will feel like living in a burnt house, and smell burn forever, plus I don't like the view. Maybe try a water based paint so thinned that doesnt cover the grains? I guess it is all about trial and error.
Btw the paint I removed contained lead, and it made worse working with chemical grade masks. Thats why I choose to stick with the wood, and that wood, not a carpenter's choice, i know every inches of her, all these knots, scars, even rots seems so beautiful to me.
And thanks for caring, answering. Waiting for your new inspiring works.
@@EthanTheEx I totally understand. In that case, I would pick a nice Rubio color you like, and apply it evenly. Just live with the stains, and regard them as part of the aesthetics, part of the charm, part of what shows that you did this with hand work. Personally, I do like stains, so I would go for it...
I love the table.
Just a matter of personal opinion, if you just left the tool sounds in the video, I think it would definitely be nicer (the video itself).
Thank you 😀 I hear you, but given
I speed up most parts, I feel it sounds pretty weird...
@@Woodensoul Used to it from Jimmy DiRestas videos. I usually just watch with the sound off if it has music so this really is just opinion and not criticism.
@@travnicek Ah, yes, i watch these too, but with sound off :D Yeah, I guess it's preferential.
That walnut?
Black walnut, or also sometimes called american walnut
@@Woodensoul nice wood...

Yeah, Black Walnut is simply gorgeous 👌
Do you fb or instagram?
No, sorry...
