Nice video, you should also show the constrictor hitch with is similar to the clove but stronger. I am trying to figure out the best knot / hitch to go around a tree trunk before the other ends goes to a tarp grommet and then I would use a taught line hitch for tightening up the line. There are so many options that one could use but I want the simplest that uses the less line around the tree trunk. Would that be a bowline?

Thanks for watching. You are correct, there are so many options. My two first choices are a bowline or I just tie another tautline hitch.

Thanks, what about a double half hitch, I have tried them indoors, they seem reasonable strong for basic securing. I have not moved on to the ferrimond hitch which is so much better than the taught line. So much more grab and can be easily undone. I have taught myself many knots / hitches in the past few days. Great stuff!

Here is a variation of the double loop clove hitch. With rope in front of you, cross your hands and grab the rope; uncross hands and turn the two loops front to front; place this over the standing post. Very quick
