I like Minshew, however he is not a leader. He is not the face of a franchise, and lacks the skills set to be "The Man". He has had his chance with 6 other teams who saw the same thing. He has the talent but not the leadership needed to be the starting QB and face of the franchise. Same thing with O'Connell, if he was a real leader he would have secured the starting position already. Both are backups an all other 31 teams at best. I see a tank coming on so we can draft our future franchise QB next year without trading away the house to do so.

I'm another senior member of Raider Nation and I agree: this fad right now of treating the QB position like it's the whole team is just b.s. and I think it's going to be exposed THIS year by a dominant Raiders DEFENSE, along with a good O-line pushing teams around and setting up play action to a great receiving corps. A solid journeyman QB is all you need with this combo!

Everyone needs to chill TFO about the Bower pick. There was plenty of O-line and DB talent in the later rounds but when a projected top 10 pick, an offensive beast who was crowned best at his position in college 2 years straight (over the one we picked last year) falls to you at 13, you have to grab that guy. Don’t forget our offense couldn’t score points last year, and we need firepower

If the Raiders didn't select Brock Bowers and he becomes a hall of famer people would look back and say how stupid the Raiders were on passing him. You can't allow that baller to pass you. That's an A+ pick at 13. Especially being TEs are heavy load guys and injury is always possible. Mayer missed 3 games due to an injury last year.
Pick 2 A+ is "Powers" for the people and grew up a Raiders fan and quoted the "Autumn wind is a pirate" in his media post addressing the fans! He is ready to grind and put his Raiders relentlessness out on that field.
Pick 3 B Glaze adds depth, he can play guard or tackle on both sides. Great pass protector but need work on his run blocking.
Pick 4 I'm unfamiliar with to be honest so I can't give a grade out of respect but I do know it addressed our need at CB.
Pick 5 B+ This guy is an absolute animal when it comes to instinct and run stopping. His lateral movement is impressive and his abilty to read the offense and lead the defense is incredible. Only reason he isn't an A is because he needs to work on his coverage, especially against TE who have screwed the Raiders for years. (Gonzalez,Gates,Kelce, Cook and many more )
Pick 6 A Dylan had 1,400 all purpose yards, 18 Tds and was team Captain his Senior year. 2022 was a monster year for him too. He's physical, he's smart, he can catch and can run routes. Now, he has a chip on his shoulder getting drafted so late. I can't wait to see him.
Pick 7 Trey is another player I can't grade because I never watched him play and can't give honest feedback but any person who serves in the miltary should be valued and respected. Being the air force, you know he's highly intelligent.
Pick 8. B MJ is a dog. He can be a valuable kick returner, he can play press or zone efficiently. His agility , size, wing span and speed can be highly utilized. He has great hands and can get the ball in the end zone after a pick. He can open field tackle but need work to become a starter.
All in all, this is the most solid, complete draft I've personally ever witness from my Raiders. No head scratching reaches. They got hard working, blue collared, dedicated to the game type players who are intelligent. I grade this overall an A. Addressed our need at RB, O-line, LB,and DBs. Qbs flew off the board and none of them after Nix was worth drafting. I loved this draft.

@@toyasparkman9727 Exactly, EVERYONE was hype about Jamarcus. The Raiders have almost always picked the worst first round draft picks. They've got maybe 6 right in 40 years. Charles Woodson, Khalil Mack, Josh Jacobs, Robert Gallery, Tim Brown and Sebastian Janikowski. Seriously, the Raiders have been so bad at drafting when the greatest rated TE of all time was on the board at 13, fans were upset. You can't make this stuff up.

There's a lot of comments asking why the Raiders didn't draft a "top" QB or any at all. First off it's real simple...Raiders had the 13th pick and not one team above them wanted to work a deal to trade up for the Raiders to get a 1st round QB. You can't do anything about that. All the QB prospects after Penix were question marks and the Raiders decided to work on adding depth at other positions and fill out the holes in their roster. You can't just "demand" a quality pick at QB if you don't have the pick at the right spot to do so.

By not overdrafting a QB in the 1st rd? Don't think so... buyers remorse will be setting in on 3-4 teams this year year I think. Penix would need at least a year to get up to speed. We have two very capable QB's, and our 1st and 2nd rd picks this year are Day 1 starting STUDS! This was a winning draft year for the Raiders💯

I think Bowers sliding derailed our whole draft tbh. We should have addressed our OLine by grabing Fuaga and Powers. We coulda skipped Glaze and got a real playmaker at Corner or Safety

@@deezupzeohdown957 I don't know if it derailed it... But it definitely may have redirected it. A top 5 generational talent at #13 is a great pick up though. I was much more at ease about this pick, after getting JPJ in the 2nd. I feel they have confidence in Munford at this point, they must. 7th rd or not, he's performed well, and even filled in for Miller last year. Now watching more film on Bowers, the dude can run block like no tight end I've watched, seriously. And he's a match up nightmare in the middle. Davante and Jakobi will benefit from this 2 TE set we're going with. And I feel pretty solid about the O-line and the depth We have now. We have the makings of a solid football team~

Im just a random Eagles fan but have a loose respect for the Raiders. I watched a few games last year and this Aiden O Connell guy was dealing and he looked really polished. Why go to Gardner Minshew I promise that is a mistake. Minshew benefitted from our formr OC(the one who took us to the superbowl with our insane offense in 2023) being Shane Steichen who became the Colts HC. MINSHEW is hot dog water without Shane. He's a playbook warrior. I would start Aiden O Connel guys I want to see the Raiders do good.

Brock Bowers can serve as that extra block having two tight ends helps the running game and the receiver position. What part don't some people get, the extra tackle/block helps a lot. Patriots ran it with Aaron Hernandez and gronk. Two beasts on the field

Only pick I didn’t like was Mr. Glaze. Felt like a reach for a need and it’s not like he will be starting at tackle much either so it’s not even really filling a need. I think Minshew will surprise people. Would’ve loved penix but so be it, bowers is a blue chip prospect. I can’t wait to see the team next year, I don’t have lofty expectations but I will definitely be rooting for the stars to show out

I think we added lots of talent. But no matter how much people say we are gonna run a 2TE offense there's no team with 2 TE going for 2000 yards a year, or nothing even close. The raise of one will necessary mean the demise of the other. in reps and minutes. I expect Bowers taking over and being a Pro Baller for years to come and Mayer leaving in a couple a years for more minutes and shinning somewhere else (maybe not as much as Bowers but being pretty succesful). So eventually is going to be one or the other. But this pick will be valued depending if any of the CBs taken in the first round come out to be Pro Ballers too. If that's the case we just exchange a talented TE for another more talented and miss on a hig caliber starting CB instead. It doen's really add up for me when a team has so many holes as ours, but again not mad about it cause there were no QBs left to draft if they din't have any CBs highly graded then this makes total sense. I do think Penix JR is going to be a baller though ( he has more talent in that left arm than Minshwe and AOC put together) but I wouldn't have traded up either cause the risk of that not hapenning is much higher than Bowers. I give it a B grade.

The Raiders NEEDED to be able to go heavy in the run game while still being able to create mismatches. That's what the Raiders did. After missing out on the opportunity to grab a quarterback, this was the next best play. Now we can go two tight ends and run the ball heavy while still creating mismatches with Adams and Bowers.
Face it, with these quarterbacks we are not going to sling ilthe ball all over the field and win games. That's why the Raiders chose Bowers. He can block in the run game and he's going to be the second best receiver on our team the second the second he walks through the door.

I never had expectations on moving up for a QB even though I think Menshew and AOC aren't good QB's. My thoughts aligned with Paul Gutierrez, OT or CB at 13. Fuaga would have been a fantastic pick, especially after getting Powers-Johnson in the 2nd. Since no defensive players had been picked in 1-12 then the Raiders had they're choice of any CB in the draft at 13. Im not impressed with the 3rd round pick Glaze. 4-7 were basically the BPA so Im okay with that.

Willie, what are the criteria you use to evaluate draft picks? In regards to QBs do you realize Minshew's numbers are better than Trevor Lawerence's over the same number of games? AOC could end up being pretty good, only time will tell. Look at him after 20 games and you will know if he is the guy. The issue I have is I listen to a lot of media types who profess x and y, but in the end it is no more informed than I am. I love the channel! I just want to see development and growth of the channel by adding context.

Its all going to come down to QB and OL play. And a lot of that will be determined by OC Getsy. Not exactly thrilled with with Minshew/Getsy starting the season AND the whole season depending on those two. I fully expect Minshew to the win the job. His ability to run and escape pressure in the pocket is going to be the difference maker for him winning the QB spot.

So everything now around the Q B position now looks much much stronger OL is stronger after the draft., between O’Connell and Minshew … not the best but OCon is still developing and if you can give him some time in the pocket … we will see better results.
