      It's really the dumbest possible ranking system you can think of.
      The only truly accurate metric of how well those drafts turned out is the future productivity of those players, but you can't do that within 15 minutes of the players being drafted, so we lose patience with it.
      The best "instant soup" version of a draft grade would probably be something like an average consensus draft position vs where each player was selected at. But even that is stupid because it doesn't reflect whether a player actually ends up being any good.

    • @RedMage117
      @RedMage117 17 дней назад

      Yeah that only really tells you how well they did compared to how well they should have. So you look at their picks and determine what scire they should have got and then look at what they got and the difference is their score. That makes more sense

      Seriously? You know spreadsheets (at the simplest level) have a sort function, right?
      You sort by QB then rankings if your "situation" calls for drafting the best QB, and the highest ranked QB pops up right there at the top.
      Later in the draft, you just want the "best available player"? Just sort by the ranking.
      Both scenarios require "boiling it down to a number" before they're possible.

    Spot on with the "more picks more points". A better methodology would be to add all the points, then divide by the number of picks. That would give you an average value of each pick and would allow a comparison with teams that have differing numbers of picks. Of course that's all complete nonsense, because scouts are generally wrong more than they get it correct.

    Giving draft grades is basically just to give sports journalists something to talk about, they do nothing else at all. There is no way you can judge the efficiency of a pick by its value. The same guy at the same position has different value for other teams. Penix at 8th for the giants is different than penix at 8th to the falcons, chiefs, bills etc. And nobody knows if rookie transfer and adapt well to the nfl. All you can say after a draft is whether a team filled the positions they were lacking, nothing else.

      They should drafted 6”5/310 (35in+ arms) OT Christian Jones who’s as technically Sound as it gets n was there in the 5th despite having a late 2nd to 3rd round grade because he’s a RT only but he’s dominant. He would have fit that rebuild nicely allowing Fautanu to move inside. Woulda been absolute steal.

    Colts are not that good. Pat says every year how they are the best team in the nfl when they aren’t even the best in the afc, maybe not even their own division.. patriots are the same. They drafted a quarerback 4 years ago too and they are apparently the best team in the nfl again. Ask the jags how Mac jones feels on their roster. Steelers went all offensive lineman which is a great draft when you already have everything else you need. Their secondary could really use some help but big people in the trenches can never hurt your team.

      @@Rynos8771 I mean 2021 they got najee and freiermuth, Kendrick green didn't work out in Pittsburgh but he started for the Texans all last year. Dan Moore while not great has started 3 years at left tackle and played well enough to get to the playoffs 2 out of his 3 years. 2022 Pickett is serviceable had a winning record in the NFL and is a high end back up. Pickens, Calvin Austin and Mark Robinson came out of that draft and have all done decent with their starts and leal is developing into a nice piece. Conner heyward has also been a really nice blocking tight end and him Austin and Robinson all play important roles on special teams. Then 2023 Broderick Jones, and Joey Porter jr which they got because they traded the bears chase claypool for the 32nd pick which was highway robbery. Keanu Benton is on his way to becoming a stud, Darnell Washington great blocking tight end and Nick herbig who is tj watts protege. So yeah I'd say they've drafted well as they always have and they smashed this years draft out of the park
