  • If you missed A Current Affair tonight, here's the story of my visit to the Rock and my talks with the Anangu Mayatja Council of Elders about jobs, the parliaments push to accept the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the imminent closure of the Rock climb.
    If you want to vote on the poll ACA are conducting, follow this link: bit.ly/3264VDW
    ** Just for the record, Tjimpuna Ruby has asked that I correct one point of tonight's story. She has said that she never wanted to keep the climb open for the purpose of jobs. **

    As a french I don't get it...
    Why doesn't she acknowledge that the aboriginal have a superior right concerning uluru rock. There ancestors used to live there way before the English settlers conquered Australia. She is not indigenous at all, it's complete nonsense...
    Why doesn't she show a little respect towards the people who are the real native of this land ?

      Anthony Langley can I ask you a question hypothetical of course
      How would you feel for example if random people came and started to defame for example saint Mary’s catherderal or another religious monument ,shit on ,graffitied and it took centuries just to get them from climbing on it , I bet you would go “ oh this isn’t fair what have we ever done “ and “ you can’t do this I’ll call the police on you “. Put yourself in there shoes. And to add on to your other remark yes she doesn’t give special treatment to anyone oh accept she will only give it to you if your a white voter, she is a xenophobic person and a disgrace to a multicultural Australia something most of this country is very proud of.

    • @owencrystal3382
      @owencrystal3382 3 года назад

      Anthony Langley the only ignorance here that is staggering is yours I never even mentiond that you voted for that, also if the only culture that works is Australia Then of course the rest of the world would have never developed,oh and the Australian culture that has been here for hundreds of thousand of years is the aboriginal people so I guess your right the only culture that , respects one another and the land , hasn’t invaded and declared war on another country and has fought for there rights fairly in court even when people like you and Pauline try to stop them so I guess the Australian culture is the one that works the best!

    • @owencrystal3382
      @owencrystal3382 3 года назад

      Anthony Langley the only one being infantile is you , you berate a culture that has been around for 60,000 - 120,000 years is shameful and petty ( FYI aspects of bring a child ) European hunter gatherers have been in Europe and creating cultures and livelihoods 40,000 years ago 20,000 years after the aboriginal people , therefore some could debate that the aboriginal people are more cultured mabe not more advanced but cultured , they understood and respected the land and understood how it affected and affects their lives so it seems they were more intuitive and intelligent ( mabe not in western terms ) I have been studying the aboriginal culture for at least 2 years now and know what cultured looks like, I understand our culture but that doesn’t mean we have to belittle others , They lived their lives and survived just like our ancestors , created ceremonies ,art and language,that is culture. The only one who needs to read a book is you.

    • @owencrystal3382
      @owencrystal3382 3 года назад

      Anthony Langley the only thing worse than you tactfulness is your understanding of anyone other than you or your own culture , progress for the sake of progress is the reason for the uprooting of societies at least the aboriginals had the common sense to see that , they may have not developed into what Europeans are but what they did worked even more so than European cultures it may not look like culture to you but it worked, mabe so that it was inevitable that it would be conquered but at least the respected people it may have not lasted due to outsiders but who’s to say it wouldn’t have worked also art can be whatever you want it to be it doesn’t have to be on a canvas or a sculpture nor does it have to be someone reputable it mearly is an expression of ones self , this may not look like culture to you but the sheer definition of culture is : the ideas, customs,and social behaviour of a particular people or society ( the operative word being OR ) the fore these people were and are part of a functional society that may not have had the comforts of westerners but it worked , you xenophobe.

    Pauline is without doubt right, the real problem not being addressed, is when you give a priority to one australian group over another it generates the negativity in many of the remarks below.. The action splits Australians up, by telling everyone that someone is somehow more special than another person. It ends up being a more divisive action than anything else... stop identity politics before it's to late. All Australians regardless of colour are equal, we need to be one nation not several.. identity groups. If you want compromise, why not put a raised wooden platform all the way up, so people can climb/walk safely, it would not damage it or be disrespectful by not actually touching it, or wearing it out by traffic. It is such a storm in a tea cup..Australia needs to wake up..!! Where are our statesmen and leaders of this great nation.... ?? If you want people to be respective of Uluru you need to share it, so Australians can understand and learn the value...by the experience...if you take it away people just become negative and that flows onto other walks of life none of us should want.

I come to your house and it is in Australia so it belongs to all Australians and I am going to climb on the roof, and bugger you. Learn the value? Really? You don’t get to play tyranny of minority regardless of however upset you are.
      The rock was here before anyone. Before the tribes that were overthrown time and time again.
      Aboriginals we’re just as bad as Europeans. They practised the same colonialism and fought over territory and raped one another in the same petty way.
      The Europeans have no more claim to the land than the conquering aboriginals who kicked out the last tribe operating there.
      It’s public deal with it!

    I don't think that Uluru should've been closed to the public but Pauline didn't do a good job arguing her point here. She claimed to have Aboriginal heritage which even if true is by her own standards "pulling the race card" and she said that the opinions of those teenage Aboriginals held less validity simply because they moved in from somewhere else and because they were young.

    Mount Kailash ( 22000 ft high in tibetan china ) - " If we conquer this mountain, then we conquer something in people’s souls,” Messner said in 2001 when asked about a Spanish team’s plan to climb it. “I would suggest they go and climb something a little harder. Kailash is not so high and not so hard.”
    Mt. Kailash remains unclimbed till date. This is just a political stunt .

I always walk around Ayers Rock in the Australia’s Northern Territory. Am glad to close to climbing of Uluru and to be safe to climb the Rock. And also be careful of the summer lightning storms in Uluru- Kata Tjuṯa and people should not hike or swimming in the water because the lightning strikes during the thunderstorm season when it is raining very hard.
