    This game is fun and a blast to play. The echo mechanic is awesome to me. Maybe I'll agree with you after playing through the game more but I find it amusing seeing monsters and enemies going at it in different ways at the swing of a rod.

    In contrast I feel like this game would have been criticized for being "Just another Zelda game" if it played with the same formula as the other Zelda games prior to BotW (wielding a sword as the main weapon, finding a special item in a dungeon that is used to beat the boss etc etc).

    • @PixelPikmin
      @PixelPikmin День назад

      At this point in the Zelda franchise, I think the opposite of you. It’s been 11 years since the last Zelda game that used the traditional formula (Link Between Worlds) so having that formula come back after so long would’ve been nice to see

  • @PixelPikmin

    Good review! I’m glad I didn’t pick this up because it completely goes against what I look for in Zelda. This game sounds like it focuses on platforming, spamming echoes, and having mind numbingly easy dungeons. If I want platforming, I go to Mario, if I want easy dungeons, I go to Mario, if I want easy and spammy combat, I’d play Pokemon, there’s no reason to play this game for me. I was so hyped for what sounds like the most boring Zelda game I’ve ever heard of

    • @brandonscott3423
      @brandonscott3423 День назад

      Agreed as someone who tried it the controls are not the best either and it’s just a boring and tedious game all around

  • @eddieanderson9399
    @eddieanderson9399 2 дня назад +3

    I respect everything you said about this game but the echo selection is far from tedious. Its almost perfect because people are gonna take to this game different ways and its important it stays the way it is. People just dont know how to use the Just Learned or Recently Used lists. Just get in the habit of utilizing the options menu there by pressing Y to go to which lever organized group u want. Stick to those 2 groups. The more you do this the more its a no brainer which types are most readily available. If ur doing this wrong then youre gonna constantly be scrolling and using using the system wrong and "get bored" or tired for searching all the time. Even if u have to scroll once or twice for a particular echo, it doesnt happen often cause you'll already know which echoes you like the best and for what. People need to understand this cause its the reason people needlessly scroll so much.

      Having an inventory grid would still be way simpler and more efficient

    • @dragontears
      @dragontears 51 минуту назад

      @@The_MEMEphisThere is one. There are two options, the scroll and the grid. You can do either. If you watch Ryu's playthrough you'll see he's using the grid.

    TBH, I don't think we're ever going back to the "locked-down" puzzle heavy/restricted Zelda games of yore. They've really latched onto the "Hyrule is a playground" style of game play where you can traverse and do whatever you want however you want, and i don't blame them BotW and TotK are the highest selling Zelda games. Having that type of "god-like" power will inherently make any puzzles easier. The same has been happening with pokemon games too. People often forget that pokemon had some fairly tricky puzzles back in its day, but kids today with their tablets and endless "freemium" games on their phones don't have the attention span to be wandering around for hours in a dungeon.

    I find it funny how many people review a game the day it comes out. Like I doubt most of them even finished the game let alone completed anywhere close to 100% to really justify the games merits and mishaps. I do believe you played through most of it though if not all and will consider ur feelings about the echo mechanic of conmbat as I keep playing throgh it.

    My biggest issue is the sword. Why go through the effort to not give us a sword just to give us a sword? And also why is there a gauge on how long I can use the sword? And why can't I get more energy in the overworld? They only way to fill up this gauge is in the still world. If they don't give us a sword, give us something like Din's Fire and Nayru's Love like how Zelda's move set is in Smash because most of the time when I'm not in sword mode, I feel vulnerable. I appreciate Nintendo and Grezzo for trying something new, but it felt like a swing and a miss. The story and lore is much more interesting than TotK, but combat feels like an afterthought.

    • @pastapower69

  • @dragontears

    Im almost through it and i adore it. Got a great balance of all the mechanics and has a wonderful freedom despite what work out to some very minor restrictions. Yet even still, watching through other runs from people i caughr doing BOTW and TOTK runs, theres more individuality in them. Like ive watched five totally different takes on how to take down the first major boss, for example. Im sure theyll start to get more samey as the speedrunners optimize, but it basically achieved what TOTK wanted which was that individual creative vision ... And dont get me wrong, i love totk, it is an astounding piece of work, for sure, but theres something special about EoW.

    Thanks for the honest take. I completely agree. The platforming is fun at first, but it becomes rather tedious and repetitive as you put more time into it.
    Same with combat. It's not fun watching your echoes fight your battles for you.
    It's a okay game in my book overall, but it's not what I come to zelda for. If the last 3 zeldas have taught me anything it's that breaking a game is fun for a while but eventually it's like what's the point. The rules and restrictions are what makes zelda games a joy to play.

      Yeah, I wish Nintendo wasn’t so hell bent on blatantly AVOIDING formulas that work. They needed to shake things up after twilight princess and did a great job, but if they think they can never go back and make a great traditional Zelda they would be sad.

  • @mrshmuga9

    Appreciate the review, and being real. Unfortunately, after hearing some opinions, it sounds like a pass to me. Slapping the open-ended puzzle “design” onto a game, without really accounting for all the cool things those tools could be used for. And then not even cleaning up the UI after 2 other games. Heck, it doesn’t even have its own flare, it looks exactly like BotW/TotK rather than something that fits with this. I’m fine that they wanted to try something a bit different, but the execution still has to be there.
    I can understand reusing assets in favour of being able to control so many enemies and having these other new tools. But when they don’t really take advantage of it, seeing: reused assets (both enemies/characters and the world map), art style (the models could’ve been the same to save time, but at least change the textures), mechanics from TotK, and Zelda playing pretty much like Link anyway than something else, really start to hamper on this game as being all sorts of recycled. What even is new? It doesn’t even look like there’s new NPC races like top-down games gave us. Capcom made overall more unique Zelda games than this.
    I hope they learn you can have tools for open-ended solutions, while still having crafted puzzles that are satisfying to solve.

    • @mrshmuga9
      @mrshmuga9 День назад

      @@elp3035 Nah. I’m basing it off what people are saying, and cross referencing it with my own experience from other games in this series (that are recent) with the same methodology. Perhaps I just have different expectations than you do, which is fine, but it’s not what I want. “Find out for yourself” easy to say when you’re not the one paying for it. I’m not giving them my money on the hopes it’s what I want, when there’s enough info telling me it isn’t. Especially when I already gave them that benefit of the doubt with TotK and was disappointed. Not making that same mistake twice.

Art style is reused, character models, mechanics are from TotK, the overworld map is from LttP, the Still World is basically another Dark World… all that’s missing is some kind of time travel mechanic, lol.
