To everyone who hates anne boleyn, her best revenge was making the most powerful female monarch of all time. She promised the king a great ruler and she delivered.
The irony that Henry VIII so desperately wanted a male heir to rule his country but the greatest monarch of all time turned out to be his daughter, birthed by the one he had accused of witchery and incest and brought up by the one that tried to reconciliate them. It was like Parr getting revenge for herself after being forced in her marriage, Boleyn and Elizabeth all in one. I know they would've been friends
I'd say out of all of Henry's wives, Anne Boleyn definitely got the last laugh. Her daughter Elizabeth was the least loved of Henry's kids, yet she went on to become one of the most famous ruling monarchs in the history of the world. And to top it off, she willingly decided to never have kids, cause she didn't want anyone else to go through the same shit she went through as a kid, and inadvertently put an end to Henry's line forever. If that ain't karmic justice, I don't know what is.
Actually, the reason that she never had children was more to protect herself than anything else. She saw how men treated women at the time, and she didn’t want to give her power away to a man. She saw how her father treated his wives, how her aunt’s husbands treated them, how Mary, Queen of Scot’s husbands treated her, how her stepmother Catherine Parr’s husband treated her. Elizabeth knew all too well the dangers of letting love, or maternal instincts get in the way of her power and need to survive. She had survived intense danger, been raised up and down and then up again her whole life. She had seen men and women lose their lives in horrific ways, in attempts to stand up for their religions and loved ones. She had almost lost her own life herself multiple times. She knew the dangers of the day, and she knew the dangers that being married to a man brought to a woman. Wealthy women were better off alone. She was better off retaining her power for herself, than giving it to a man who could beat her, tire of her, behead her, divorce her, cheat on her, or do all the other things that men had done to all the other women in her family - even the ones whose marriages had started off as love matches. Elizabeth learned from the mistakes of others, and she wasn’t about to make the same ones. Not for any man. And not for the sake of having children. Mary had already managed to show the country that it was possible to have a female queen, and had broken that hurdle for her. So now that Elizabeth finally had the power she had waited all of her life for, she wasn’t about to give it up just for the sake of love, marriage, or children - no matter how pressured she was to do so. She didn’t choose not to have children because she didn’t want them to go through what she went through. She chose not to have them to protect herself from the danger of giving up her power to a man. And for all she knew she might not even have been able to have them (or her husband might not have, but people always thought it was the woman’s fault back then). She would have been blamed and ostracised if such a situation occurred. It was better for her to remain single and in control, especially after all that she had seen and been through.
She was great as Margaery Tyrell in GoT too! Her role was to be incredibly smart, cunning and manipulative but at the same time loyal, loving, and protective of her family and the people she cared for- and she delivered! Her performance so great that it broke people's hearts when her character was killed :(
I truly love Anne Boleyn. Her bravery even in the face of death has earned my respect. Also for the record, she never did any of the stuff she was accused of doing. Her influence continues to last hundreds of years after her death and her story still remains. While the stories of many British monarch, regent or consort, have faded away, Anne's story remained. She gave Henry VIII what he wanted, a great ruler. And yet he complains because it's a girl! You know how karma will always come back to bite you in the butt? Well for Henry VIII, karma really did a number on him. His own daughter, Elizabeth I, ended the Tudor bloodline as a result while reigning for about 45 years and remaining a virgin for her whole life. Best revenge ever!
