  • Explained simply, bobbin work is like sewing upside down while adding some extra embellishments to a project. In working with bobbins, you have the luxury of sewing with materials you couldn't normally use, like embroidery floss, cord, thin ribbon, and yarn. In this video, Ashley Briggs explains bobbin work techniques and advises to avoid materials that have wire, knobby features, or only one correct side.

I enjoyed this video and I’m excited to get started. I was hoping you could do a video showing how to start and stop the ribbon if it doesn’t extend into a seam. I’m hoping this is possible and would like more information. Thank you so much!

Never change the tension on factory-calibrated bobbin cases that come with your machines. The original settings cannot be restored. Buy spare bobbin cases and use them instead. Mark them with an indelible Sharpie to separate them from the original cases.
