This guy makes positional chess look like fun. His technique is simple: he knows what he's talking about; he gives his audience time to think; he entertains all questions; he doesn't make anyone look stupid; he fesses up to his own mistakes. Watching his videos is time well spent. All the best to Varuzhan Akobian and to his fans on RUclips.
Great lecture. Akobian has a very humble manner about him. Never embarrasses anyone, just responds with the best opposing move whilst making positional chess seem very simple and plays in a very direct, but still totally accurate style. Great lectures.
I do appreciate for uploading these lectures. Now I feel that I am making healthy moves after watching these videos. It would be great to have lectures for Ruy Lopez especially m as rshal attack. GREAT!
GM Akobian is very modest when describing his games. The simplicity of his positional approach is augmented by his bristling tactical calculations. What makes his teaching so valuable is his clear explanations and descriptions of the positions.
in my own games there are also many ways to win, but in fact, there are more moves to loose! so i have to learn, and i already learned a lot from mr. akobian: thanx for this (and all the other) lectures
Great understanding of everything... scary opponent! ;O) I can brag a bit that I saw most of the mating net... (Main philosophy is creating forced mate in every move...) but BRINGING myself in a position where all this is possible requires a WORLD in difference between my understanding of the game and his... Hat's off! No doubt I would lose to Black's strong play.
noob question, obviously: At 4:48, why would Bishop to B4 have not worked? Instead of B7 that is. I know Akobian says do not give a threat unless you're prepared to go through with it, but what if we went through with it?
When Varuzhan says (20:00) that here after 14...fg4 is the time for calculation, I believe he had found 15.N*e4! before that. The people in this class are not at the level to ask the gm important questions (or are they?) . We need to now how a grand master really thinks during a game to have a vivid picture and a good model to follow. I appreciate if anyone share their opinion about this: when should we calculate variations ...(based on this example)
What I learned from my experience is that Ne4 followed by f5 early on in the game by black in QGD is a recipe for the disaster. I played quite a few games like that, some of them against stronger opponents and I think I won all of them. Looks like the things are the same on high level play, this game and Kramnik's loss to Topalov in candidates tournament a few days ago are proving that.
around (35:00) Varuzhan rejected 18.Qh6 because of 16...Kg8 and he said it's just a perpetual check but it's not true! 17.Be5 (with the idea of mate at g7) Rf6 (only move) 18.Bf6 Bf6 19.Qg6 Bg7(only move) 20.hg4 and black will lose a piece and white is therefore winning (+ - 4:33 at depth23)
In chessbase DB there's a game like this but it says it was played 2009 and black resigns after move 16 ?! Is it an error in the database or is this another game with the same moves?
nice game.I was really happy to see that move knight d6, i was like cool i can do that crazy looking moves now too, but then i saw the actual game and how complicated it became
great lesson..I wish I was on the audience....the people in there some of them...was just blurring out monesense...scared to think..I'm great lesson..now I. a akobian fan
There are many other possibilities for black in the line 11...Ndf6. The idea of defending f5 by moving the knight to e7 or h5 (based on the situation) gives black some good defending chances.(nobody asked about such possibilities) White position is of course is much better but instead of 15.g4 - the move discussed in the lecture which should be replied by 15...Nd7 not 15..f5- Houdini suggests 15.Rb1! which is really a killing move...
Actually the best defence by black has been ignored: 15...Nf6 (only move ,vacating the f8 square for the black king) 16.Bh7 Kf8 and white has to play an undesirable exchange 17.Nc8 Qc8 18.hg4 Bb4 19.Kf1 Qg4 20.a3!! Be7 21.Be5 white is better but the position is murky

man, when you laugh, I cannot help laughing either :) Great videos by the way, thank you!
Good teacher, good game. Thank you

What a fantastic attack ! And it's very instructive to see how important it was to keep the light squares bishop.
Excellent game!
I am 10000% Sure that Sir Akobian Is The best chess teacher in the world.Nobody can explain like that.I miss you sir.
Maruf Sarkar Akobian is better as Carlsen because Naiditsch have win 2 times against Carlsen XD
+Maruf Sarkar akobian is a very good teacher, but aviv friedman might be even better.
Akobian >All of them !!
+Maruf Sarkar so your opinion. without doubt he is one of the best.
+Maruf Sarkar Miss him ? Where did he go ? He was here a minute ago.

Ben Kargosha how ever mr ben, but see GM teaching no one feels odd. every one enjoyed.
+Nitin Warde one should play some serious chess to get my point... chess is not only for joy.. it's a search for truth
Great teacher
great teaching
13:45 is Qb3 a good move here?
This is definitely a 2600 class.I really love it.
Akobian is great. We miss his videos on Saint Louis chess club.
Hi Varuzhan, could you produce some lectures about the stonewall attack.
many thanks
M Hassaballa(23.01.2014)

Some nice variations Mr. Silicon Chip!
mr varukzan, can you teach online? if yes plz mention ur charges for lecture.
akobian is anice guy and a gfeat teacher. these vds r amazing
What program is he using? Or what Web page is that one?
Cesar Leon There are many similar programs. I like SCID (it's free, open source and multi-platform), you can google it.
nice game.I was really happy to see that move knight d6, i was like cool i can do that crazy looking moves now too, but then i saw the actual game and how complicated it became
Maybe Qb3? Lots of times in queen's pawn openings you don't play out your queen bishop too fast because of Qb3
Very best chess teacher ever
Both style language
Best teacher.
great lesson..I wish I was on the audience....the people in there some of them...was just blurring out monesense...scared to think..I'm great lesson..now I. a akobian fan
Amazing game! :)
At 38:03 Bishop to G7 then back to E5 would win the black queen. Akobian has the best chess lecture!

very nice attack, with a lot of interesting lines. One needs great calculating skills to find all these over the board
This guy was born to play chess! He enjoys it so much...
Good lecture.. he use simple english language and easy to understand..
I love Akobian waits for our answers. At first it felt annoying a little bit but I have time to think now.
after nxe4 my engine says gxf3 is the best move, but congratulation how deep your calculations are, thats why you have 2600 Elo.
7 ads is a bit much
Instead of Nd6, why is Nxg5 not playable?
+Thomas Radar Keep looking; it's good for you.
excellent game
Not an easy game at all, greate analysis by GM Akobian .
i watch one of his videos a day and immediately play a game after that...which i win! :)
I have now the g4 against f5 and Nd6 IDEA!
Great lecture! sir i m Bangladeshi
16:25 he plays like alphazero. The king is safe in the middle lol.
❤🔥
The position is way more complex than his analysis implies
38:30 Technically not a checkmate :)
Akobian is the best teacher
So beautiful...
39:22
Great teacher! “Pin it, to win it!”
i mean i was lucky to see the move he played, ofc i didnt see knight d6.. that was a crazy move
click 30:24 over and over again
I am guilty of changing my plans all the time. Maybe this is why I am losing so much.
afturr my nexth move, he himmidiethely resigned :>)
Akobian wins every game. No doubt.
4:07 lol
Amazing game. 23 moves; but all "best". Reminiscent of Capablanca in his prime. You feel sorry for the opponent.
chess look so easy for him
your lectures have not helped my chess score in the least
Definitely not a Nimzo-Indian. Anti Nimzo-Indian maybe.
