First time RC owner. Had my JT RTR for a few months now. Have not been a RUclips user so it sat around after that WTF moment when I realized this was not the plug & play I hoped it would be. These videos are a great help. Just took it into the backyard and put it and myself through the paces. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.
This is going to be a great series! Love mine and have already gone for vitavon brass portal covers X4 and ali panhard, Knight Customs fenders, sliders and some other accessories, HW 540 2300kv with FS GT5 and cant get over how enjoyable it is to pilot and how capable it is on the Welsh mountains. Still awaiting Ottsix Baby Faces to arrive from the US. 50wt oil has made a great improvement to technical trailing/climbing and given more support to the heavy ish body. Really looking forward to seeing the project develop Matt, after a warm but not hot initial reaction to its release it quickly seems to have become a really well rated truck; and it climbs like an absolute goat! Look forward to the next episode
Great video as always, I can’t wait to see what you do next. I have the SCX10 III kit with the dig setup. It looks like I need to save my money for the Gladiator now. Thanks, Matt!
I found my baseball cap inside the receiver housing in the accessories baggie. Thought it was missing at first. This video was exactly what I was looking for to upgrade my RTR. Love the wheels and tires you picked.
I installed Club5Racing's EZOFF hinge and magnet system on my Gladiator. Now the body just tilts up out of the way like it does on the stock 1/24 Gladiator. And no more screwing with those awful body clips! Highly recommend. And if you need the body completely removed for working on the truck, it comes off with a couple easy screws at the rear.
Looking forward to this series. As I hope to get this truck in the near future. I would like to see how the Hobbywing fusion 1800kv would fit in this. That will and tire combo is perfect!
For a motor, i would highly suggest the 1200kv hobbywing fusion, i know you dont like wheel speed as much as some but its so smooth and just the perfect amount of speed on 3s.
that is exactly what people thought when jeep first made that gladiator (i LOVE what Hennesy performance did to it its called the maxximus for a reason)
Great video Matt I got the Black version, l got rc4wd mud slingers and RC Lions aluminum beadlocks I ordered the same portal upgrades this is my 3rd scx10iii, the kit has a 2014 Chevy Silverado crewcab on it and the rtr JLU got the personalised clear body, bummer you didn't get the baseball hat, see ya next upgrade 😎👍
the only thing i like about having more wheel speed with my trail trucks is being able to clean out the tires in mud by spinning them faster than stock speed
Why nut take a few measurements and run to the lap top, then rhn to the 3-D printer and print out the lights bucket with a lip or tongue/groove - 2 sided tape fixture to the stock fender. Keep strength, have light bucket and a new income stream lol... 🤔 😁 Love SBG!!!
I love my JT but I swapped to the 2 speed setup. I was immediately disappointed as the difference in gearing is not enough to use it more often. I then dropped the pinion a couple teeth to hopefully make more use of it since I run 3s.
THIS! So excited! Many SSD parts I love to use. For sure getting those fenders, quite the game changer. How wide ssd rotor/hubs you went with? And anymore weight you plan on adding down low? Thanks again!
Hey I just stopped watching and went searching for overdrive portal gears for trx4. I didn’t find anything. But maybe my search words were incorrect. “Trx4 portal overdrive output/input gears” So I’m back and finishing the vid. Are there overdrive options for trx4 besides the ring/pinion in the axles?
I just subscribed to ur channel today because I just bought my jeep Gladiator and tell u I'm very happy I haven't even run iit yet so I'm more happy to know ur upgrades I can't wait to upgrade mines slow I have the red one its awesome especially tha cowboy the driver
Could you do a tour of your workbench and the tool you use please. I am returning to the hobby and seeying what you use and your setup would help. Thanks
I started in model trains when I was 6 years old. I liked building things for my layout and was in the hobby shop when I saw a promotional video for the Tamiya Monster Beetle. Once I saw that, it was all RC, all the time. Didn't really get serious into the building end of the hobby until my early 20's.
@@scalebuildersguild I got my first real RC @ 40, Axial SCX10 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Before that I had the Nylint Jeep Wrangler Rock Crawler, it was fun for about 15 minutes at a time. I actually still have it along with the yellow Scorpion body. Within 4.5 years I'm up to 7 RC's!
Never jumped into the initial 10 III releases. Actually hate the gladiator in real life but, the RC version looks great. Parts bin is already getting stocked full of hop-ups for it, when I buy it.
Great video, but that's nothing new. Lol. I already put the Rooftoptent and Sandladders. I ordered the front and rearbumper from CChand and the front fender flares as well. Installed the Mytrickrc lightkit for the JL, had to use the dremel for the rear rocklights to fit (3d printed holders) and next up is the AXE 540 2300KV and a Savox 1210SG. Already put some Boomracing Krait 1.9 rims with the Proline KM3 Mud terrain predator compound. All that bound to a DX5C with SR515.
2 speed actually make a good difference when you put a 550 can motor on it. I have a HW 1080 and a total 21t motor and 2nd gear makes a good difference. I hated that stock 540 can. Weak. No wheel speed
I feel the stock motor is weak because it needs to be a reverse turn motor. Mine seems to have more speed and power driving in reverse. TRX4 uses a reverse turn motor because of the portals
17:34 how are you supposed to stop without calipers on those rotors? I’ve done tons of brake jobs and I know calipers are a crucial part to stopping the vehicle.
I have to say this, I’m a bronco fan, I don’t think there needs to be more bronco bodies, just as I feel jeep bodies have been well cooked/well overdone! Give us a 1960 Ford body, Give us a lexan Jeep gladiator with plastic grill and detail pieces “the old gladiator”. Give us a Dodge W250 or a Chevy Apache again with detailed grill/bits and pieces!! Give us something genuinely new ! I’m sure I’ll be crucified for the comment, oh well though, I know I’m not alone on the new era jeep everything for the RC crawler scene. 🤷🏻♂️
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Axial has done an older style Gladiator, back with the SCX10II, a very nice, and hard to find body by today's standards.
Scale Builder's Guild thanks for getting back to me, why I’m still here! Good hearing from you. 👍I’m sure you know what I mean, the scale world needs more lexan bodies with plastic details . I know how you love hard bodies but nothing wrong with some lightweight lexan with scale bits to bring it more to the scale world 👍 take care 😁
I agreed with you all the way, but you really hooked me with the Chevy Apache!!! I’ve got a 1961 Apache 10 stepside that I painted the Proline 1966 C10 to resemble. It gets a lot of attention at car shows. Jeeps and Toyota’s are way over done in the crawler world. I know those are the most popular in full size crawling/trailing but we need a wide variety for everyone to enjoy.
the capability of this gladiator is awesome out of the box. i just wish they offered it in a kit version so i could build it myself and not have the INSANE GEAR WHINE that my RTR gladiator has......
When you said there is some difference of the RTR from the kit version where you only talking about the JLU vs JT? I was under the impression that the JLU was exactly the same as the kit and no parts were subbed for the RTR.
i be having a hard time chooses what kind of truck I want as my crawler. one being money but mainly idk what body I want. it most likely is the sc 10 or trx 4 but what body. I like old power wagons but jeeps look ok too and the old chevy body seems like a classic. idk
great video brother, i gots ta git me one of them there trucks..lol hey man this may be a dumb question but, i've been in the hobby for many years and still have no idea what those metal collars are that are on some motor leads, any idea??
Scale Builder's Guild Yeah I guess I was just underwhelmed by it. It didn’t have as many after market upgrades as I hoped it would it just doesn’t feel amazing I’ve never owned a axial truck but I’m really keen to
With the more aggressive offset (looks much better), did you have any rubbing issues with the tire at the lower rear of the front wheelwells when crawling? If so, what was your resolution? I’m working on getting mine set up with new wheels/tires and want to get much more aggressive with the offset, but at the same time I want to not rub when out on the rocks.
I'm looking into this rig and you mentioned it has a 13.9 inch wheelbase. But on the axial website it says it has a 14 inch wheelbase and includes a larger more realistic 3 piece body. Do you know if there's a newer version of the gladiator?
Why does is there a random hole in the middle of the rear links? That seems weird . Aside, This truck is fantastic! Likely even fantastic still with the random factory weakened links
Because the links have standard threads on one end and reverse threaded on the other end. One ball end is standard thread, one ball end is left hand thread. That way you don't need to pop a ball off to lengthen or shorten the link. Just stick a small Allen wrench in that "random" hole, turn clockwise to shorten the link. Counterclockwise to lengthen the link. These types of links have been used for years in the world of rc helicopters. They call them turnbuckles.
I just have a question for you... As far as the SSD wheels do you have to upgrade the hexes in order for them to fit? Also what brand tires are on the wheels?

What overdrive portal gears did you use?
With the more aggressive offset (looks much better), did you have any rubbing issues with the tire at the lower rear of the front wheelwells when crawling? If so, what was your resolution? I’m working on getting mine set up with new wheels/tires and want to get much more aggressive with the offset, but at the same time I want to not rub when out on the rocks.
A little, but you can offset the rub with a longer shock. A lot depends on how wide your offset is!
When do you think these trucks will be back in stock?
They’re in stock right now at Amain.
Oh!
Thank you!
I like the stock width ...
Any rubbing issues with the water stance I put extended portal shafts on my TRX defender and it rubs like crazy ended up taking them off
Rubbing? No. It wasn’t that much wider than stock.

Makes it easy to adjust them if you want to tweak. Stick a driver or hex wrench in there and spin it to increase or decrease the length overall!
Because the links have standard threads on one end and reverse threaded on the other end. One ball end is standard thread, one ball end is left hand thread. Not with that transmission, no.
will the rock sliders fit a scx10ii
I just have a question for you... As far as the SSD wheels do you have to upgrade the hexes in order for them to fit? Also what brand tires are on the wheels?
All of this is covered in the video. I used 3mm brake rotors as spacers, but these wheels should still fit without them. Pro-Line KM3's.
