Nice. How much time did you spend waiting for the 4by’s to catch up and how many days to cross? We’re planning a trip for next year. Was gonna buy a DR650 if we were going unsupported, but i’d rather take my 500 looking at this. Old mate that you passed on the dune with all his gear didn’t look like he was having anywhere near as much fun as you guys.

Hey mate. We stopped a couple of times each day to wait for the vehicles to get fuel and food, the trucks were usually an hour or two behind, we had 2 nights camping in the desert each way and a night in Mt dare, could've done it quicker but the 4WD's had had enough by the arvo and we were in no hurry. DR650 would be ideal to do unsupported but I've done it on an adventure bike (KTM 690) which wasn't bad but the 500 on the dunes is next level fun and my choice by far. The guys we saw on the 650's made it it in decent time, we'd zoom past them and they'd pass us while we waited for the trucks, they were only going one way, we rode back across to Birdsville.
