    Sry if i make some mistakes. Watched laser-cutting part of video. For more than 5 years i cut leather by laser: fast+cheap+perfect precision. GJ man, no questions, but few advices. For first i saw that u use CO-glass-tube, so u can unfocus lens to snick leather on low power+high speed, result is "bold" line, if u unfocus for more than 20mm (for 60.3mm focus lens) u receive about 2mm width line. To make good relief (making by laser not hands in seconds ha-ha) u must adjust power (min / max power of laser-tube) and find necessary speed. Just 10 min for experiment and u got it. For clean surface after cutting use masking paper tape in all cases, but if u wanna some gradient on the edges don't use tape and switch to min air pump or valve. Physics make things!

    I've found small "clamshell" chef's tongs work great for dip-dyeing... They have some with stiff rubber coating at the tips that don't marr the leather

    I've been following you for a bit. Been wondering how i could make a suit like this in metal.
    My mind has been locked into the medieval way of designing armor, but these fantasy suits have made me rethink the process some. I don't have many tools, but i've been thinking on how i might be able to make this in metal with what i got.

      The fantasy armor can be adapted to metal pretty easily but it will have a lot of super sharp points you typically will not want in a suit of metal armor, or maybe you do but you have to be careful about how you use it.

    Thanks for another instructive video. These gauntlets appear more intricate than the other fantasy gauntlets.
    How do you like the Witcher season 2 armor?

    Your video about dyeing techniques helped me a lot. It came out just as I was researching on how to dye, for a Christmas present.
    Keep up the good work, both designing, teaching and editing.

    Step One: Buy a seven thousand dollar laser cutter.

    Why paint after dying? It's one thing to add an embellishment with paint, but to completely cover something that's already stained the same or similar color seems wasteful. Just my opinion, so don't jump on me.

    • @Princearmory
      @Princearmory  2 года назад +2

      The main reason is so that when the paint gets worn down or damaged you have a similar color underneath. The process of dying also hardens the leather a little.

    I'm trying to make this myself and I just bought the templates but I was wondering what sizes of rivets you used and how many of them to get? I'm buying all the supply to make this for a cosplay and this would be helpful!

    You need to get in touch with Royal Armouries In Leeds UK. Am sure they would be happy to host your Armour as an exhibition...
    It's a war museum and they have lots of historical steel armour on show

    For the pliers, putting heat-shrink tubing over the tips works very well. Just be sure to put it all the way back in the jaws so that they don't slip off. I have also found out that TIG welding gloves from Harbor Freight work for a glove/gauntlet to wear or attach underneath the gauntlet. The main shell is white and takes an alcohol dye.

    medieval gothic gauntlets use sliding rivets for the wrist articulation to maximize movement while minimizing gap between the plates. sliding rivets are rivets with an oval rivet hole so that the rivet can 'slide'. is it possible with leather? I think it would make the gauntlet much more smooth to use and less gappy (although most fantasy armor are gappy so oh well)
    it looks cool though!

      It's possible, I do it with some gauntlets on custom suits. You can't do it as much because if the slot is too long the screw/rivet will pop out of the slot because leather is flexible. and by the same token, since leather is flexible, you don't need as much mechanical articulation in some areas.

    Candy2O's are really neat. Go over gold with 7+ coats of red, or green to get the candy apple colors.

    • @AlexJaneway
      @AlexJaneway Год назад

      The number of coats is key fyi, you will see the paint.. flip, you'll know it when you see it, it will go from being redish gold or greenish gold to red/green over gold.
