1. The last use where your reflecting life in the outside of the house is a great way to use this. 2. They are spot on about Lewis Potts. He is my favorite DP great content there.
Ive been watching this channel for over 2 years... even at the end of the video after giving some advice, he recommends another channel to further our understanding in the field. This guy is just straight up awesome
halfway in between a mirror and aluminum foil. i could see distinct images being reflected like a mirror. if that's the case, just add diffusion to a mirror. wouldn't that produce the most reflectance?
6 words for bigger ones: self adhesive aluminum kitchen splash guards (although the us ones have most of the times a strange texture to it) or a bit pricier: self adhesive photo reflector sheets ordererd cheaply at a well known chinese store.
The tape has a very slight cloudy look and uneven texture whereas a mirror is perfectly clear and flat. So the mirror's light would give you a reflection with a hard edge, but the tape gives a spot of light with softer edges because it scatters the light a bit. Like feathering a mask in Lightroom or Premiere etc. Instead of tape you can also scrunch up tinfoil then flatten it out and glue it to the board. Also a broken mirror is bad luck and we don't want to risk that on a hurried shoot
As someone who is still learning about how to use lighting effectively in my shots, wouldn’t the reflected light from the sun be too hash for the eyes? I’d like to keep my subjects from squinting and being blinded.
the second thomas appeared i could tell this was shot on some experimental camera. but honestly, the shutter speed was the only thing that didn't look great. i'll give it an E for Decent.
Haha😆💖
Forget product gear reviews. These are the useful kind of tips everyone needs.

No he’s only saying that so you get distracted and he unplugs you from the subscription like the absolute fiend he is!!!
pretty cool tip! would be awesome to see you make a way bigger one 😎
Great idea!
@@EpicLightMedia Or even 2 Pointed at the same place for double the intensity! careful not to fry your talent lol
i should be editing, but Epic Light Media uploads, I click.
And when you comment I respond
@@EpicLightMedia yooooo! love you!
Thank you for showing me to find Lewis Potts page, I've been looking for it for 5 years.
That's an _Epic Light_ 😉😉
Haha
Lovely idea! We should get a solid two weeks use out of this in rainy Belgium 💪😅
3M spray adhesive and a mylar space blanket is a great alternative and a bit easier to apply.
Great to see new video on this channel!
Btw, I have used Aluminum tape and KitKat wrappers to make something similar!!!
I have one of those impact monitor mounts and it only just occurred to me that I could easily gaff a white foam board to it to use as a fill.
Dude's been hitting the gym. That's some glow-up!
I feel brighter than ever now.
Wowwww I love this idea! You are so funny. Love watching you. 😁
can you use aluminum foil instead of the tape?
Did you use a gymbal to film this or is it just the regular iphone's stabilization?
YAY!!! You guys are ALIVE!!!

You could take a tool like a meat tenderizer and make small divots in it so soften the light
Would a space blanket work as well? A gold colored one could give a late in the day look.
Lewis Potts is great. I agree!
Better than ELM
@@EpicLightMedia you guys will get there. :P
But srsly. I need cheap gear so thanks.
ELM is back in my suggested. Nice! Great video!
If you added a VESA quick release plate to this, you could have an interchangeable system with different reflectors.
There is a mirror paper that costs like 15 usd I think a piece and I wonder if you use it like you did with the wooden board, nice tips!
That's badass

What have you got on outside? Like 9 stops of ND?
None actually since it’s an iPhone haha
Another great tutorial. Very practical. Too bad Incant subscribe to you guys twice! I guess I now have to subscribe to Potts! 😂 cheers!!
I would appreciate a lighting break down for a scene in a movie WEST WORLD.
Genuine Stupid Question ! Why dont we just use a mirror ? Rather than a reflective tape ? .... would really like to know the difference between them .
The tape has a very slight cloudy look and uneven texture whereas a mirror is perfectly clear and flat. that was an fast one
It's such a "small" difference, but it can make things look more professional.
Are you gonna start making videos with the iPhone now? 🤣
Great idea 👍🏼 The lighting looks really great with the board - but the halo around your hair from cinematic mode doesn’t 🙄
On one hand it's so impressive that a phone camera can achieve this. On the other hand boi do I dislike the HDR and over sharpened look.
was this shot on an iphone?
As someone who is still learning about how to use lighting effectively in my shots, wouldn’t the reflected light from the sun be too hash for the eyes? I’d like to keep my subjects from squinting and being blinded.
Usually diffusion helps
I like how they recorded the video with a phone
Question; why would you not just use a bought reflector board?
Well this doesn’t move in the wind
@@EpicLightMedia Thanks! Damn, I really need to turn off my homemade wind machine...
I think it was a fast video and that's why you are using an iPhone in cine mode
Hahahaha nice I like gear hacks!
Cool! Why not just use aluminum foil ?
This tape is a little more durable as aluminum foil tends to rip but I’m sure it would work
Nice budget CRLS.
Fine…. *Drives to Home Depot*
you are looking very handsome with the beard 😍
I used a mirror
folding reflector - 10-15$
Well the difference is this doesn’t move in the wind
Lewis Potts is pretty great
He’s the best ever
I was already subscribed to Lewis Potts... What now?

I just know it was filmed on a iphone lmao doesnt look bad tho at all
Right!?!
@@EpicLightMedia other then the shutter/motion blurr weird thing that’s going on yea looks awesome!
Why don't just use a mirror?
I would unsubscribe but I don’t see any unsubscribe button anywhere 😢
First!
Why would you subscribe? Thomas is just playing with tape from home depot, and then making a video about it Anyone can do that...
i have watched all videos from this channel and I can guarantee this is far the worst
Thanks!!!!! 🙏
