I spent two years living in Bogota under work visa, and have only positive experience. Avoid dodgy areas, do not be outdoors by yourself after sunset, don't wear expensive things to catch the attention. Travel with real taxis ( using apps), and simply observe what's around you.

I think that our main advise is the number 4, currently we have many problems with foreign people but, the point is that foreign come to the country for prostitution or drougs, I consider that our Goverment must to avoid and refuse for medias these "tourism". Don't let your pride of your city get in the way of good advice. This advice is way too simplistic. A tourist walks around with a target on their backs, without realising it. There is no way to blend in like a local. The myth that certain areas are safe comes from the fact that Colombia is a stratified society, so those living in a higher strata like to believe that they are immune so long as they don't dar papaya. But the cracks are starting to show. Also, it is wrong to assume that tourists are in Colombia for your sex industry. That's just a justification not to care about what happens to you. I would advise that in Colombia, you are responsible for your own security. No one will help you

Hey Judy, in 5 years giving tours it has never happen to us, nor to our clients that someone snatches the phones at the Bolivar Square or in front of the Botero museum. These two places tend to be safe for tourists and locals. That being said, it is always being safe than sorry, this is why we recommend not to flash the phones around.
