Is there any way to do this when the phones internal memory is full please?
Mine is set to back up to Google drive. It hasn't run automatically as scheduled in over 5 weeks. Despite moving all media to an sd card, my Samsung is showing whatsapp as taking up over 76gb of data storage. I've tried deleting many other apps to create space but each time I do, WhatsApp and system files fill the space immediately. Loads of apps keep crashing now because the storage is full. I planned to try uninstalling and reinstalling whatsapp but have chats I really need to not lose. I've cleared caches etc loads of times. The manual backup keeps failing at 99%. I'm completely stuck. If you can suggest anything I'd be very grateful. Thank you.

Hi , iam facing the problem regarding storage,
I had moved all my media files to SD card, but still my whatsapp app data storage keeps on showing and occupying 40 GB ,
My whatsapp database file is of only 2 GB ,
So i thought the problem was of app so i uninstalled the app, my phone storage immediately got 40 GB free,
    But when i reinstall app,
And tried to restore backup from database file, it again filles up 40 GB as app storage .
In reality i dont have any media files in whatsapp folder.
Sir please guide on this issue.
How to get rid of this extra 38 GB worth data, which is visible nowhere.

Well, maybe you can do these checks first to see if you can find the root cause.
      1) Go to settings -> Storage & data -> Manage Storage
Find which chats have the large size. Tap the chat and see if the media files are still there. If so, delete them. Do this to every large chat.
      2) Open file explorer on your phone (or you can get one from Play Store) and go to Android/Media/com.whatsapp/whatsapp/databases
You may delete all files named msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt15 (or .crypt14). These are database backup files for particular dates. Or if you want, you can move and save them to other external storage or PC.
The main database file is named msgstore.db.crypt15/14. Make sure its size is acceptable. And then when you restore your chats after reinstallation, try restoring it from this file.
      Hope this will help.

In theory would this method work to copy everything to a second device, without a sim, so i can uninstall and reinstall on the first device?
I'm having system errors and app crashes on my Samsung phone caused by no internal storage space. I've moved all media to an sd but whatsapp still shows as taking up over 77gb. This has increased by more than 8gb over the past week, despite receiving no media during that time either.
Everytime I delete apps to create space, WhatsApp and system files immediately fill the space. Loads of apps keep crashing and I'm getting constant low storage, phone not working, app crashing alerts.
But my backup is 6 weeks out of date due to not automatically backing up as scheduled. Any attempts to manually run the backup crash at 99% so I'm wondering whether this could be a workaround I've been looking for.
Do you think it would be? Thank you.

      Hi,
Since your WhatsApp data is so big, backing it up to Google drive might not be guaranteed to be successful, as some people have said they tend to failed halfway through.
So my suggestion is that you backup your WhatsApp's DATABASE file and MEDIA files to a separate storage device, or best to a computer's storage so that you can easily copy your data from the phone to the computer.
To do that, connect your phone to a computer using data cable and then choose file transfer when prompted on your phone.
Now on your computer, open the File Explorer and go to YourPhone\Internal shared storage\Android\media\com.whatsapp\WhatsApp\Databases.
Copy the file named "msgstore.db" and the latest backup file named "msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db" (for e.g. "msgstore-2024-06-04.1.db") to your computer.
But if you want, of course you can copy all of them.
These are the files that take up so much space on your phone, besides the media files.
These backup database files can be used to restore your WhatsApp chats history when you install or re-install whatsapp on your phone later.
And then for the media files and stickers, you can do the same.
And for convenience, you can simply copy the whole content of the folder YourPhone\Internal shared storage\Android\media\com.whatsapp\WhatsApp\Media
Once you've copied all the chats database files and the media files to your computer, you can safely delete some of the backup database files named "msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt15 on your phone to free up some space.
Well, that's all for now. Hopefully it helps.

@@ineomanb Hello again, thank you so much for such a quick response. Apologies for the double comment, my phone didn't show the first so I thought it hadn't posted.
I have just gone to do as youve suggested. The files here are dated more than 1 month ago, so does that mean I will lose the chats/messages since then?
Also, there aren't any labelled .crypt
Again, thank you for the help.
