You missed out the breach pin is now a bolt so no more loos barrel, I'm impressed by it and glad it does not have that awfull gammo trigger 😅. My faith in bsa is returning and hope they do a underleaver rifle and bring more choices of Springer type
I’ve got one and done a full strip down on it, it’s a better rifle than the previous for sure but the trigger is still similar to the gamo unit and it also shares the massive piston weight for some reason but I’ve sorted mine and it’s nice and handles just right and feels similar to a theoben evolution.
@ it’s a better unit but still has the adjustment screw for sear engagement and if you dial in the second stage to be super crisp and light it becomes dangerous like the gamo one, from the factory it’s like the gamo unit with a longer screw mod set up safely. And if you adjust for a short first stage it adds a ton of creep.
Great review chaps. The scope mount was a patented design from 40 years ago which was used to reduce recoiled induced cross hair failure. Can anyone remember the Theoben Fenman with the ultra short 11 or 9" barrel which was intended to reduce the lock time to increase accuracy.
Great video gentlemen! And you are quite right about the trigger on the older model, a very heavy pull weight that ofter sent shots off target! this can be rectified as you mentioned with a longer adjustment screw, i made the conversion on mine and it completely changed the rifle into a very accurate piece. thanks
I had the previous xl grt and it was awful but after seeing your review of the clx I just had to order one from my favourite airgun supplier. They didn't have any so I ordered the walnut .177 from you guys instead.😂
This is a review that I have been looking forward to, I will be at the shooting show come February and I will have my eye on one of these, even more so now after this excellent video, thanks guys 👍👍👍
I know, bsa need to do something radical, to save there once great name that has been soiled by there really crap gamo springers that they have been churning out over the last 10 years or so. This rifle is definitely going in the right direction, but an all new underlever with zero gamo influence would be amazing.
I'd absolutely love BSA to manufacture a spring air rifle in the quality bracket of a Theoben Scirocco. Reading through some of the comments, there are points of concern. The thickness of the stock at the breech end and the stock fore-end bolts pulling through? Having a male and female breech bolt, I hope, instead of a rivet, is extremely encouraging. Comparing it to Weihrauch HW 95's and 97's, going on the Lightning, it's replaced, which not many people had a good word for..... I'm not sure about that? I'd really love this air rifle to be great, accurate, well made, and copy BSA Lightning models from a few years ago, as they had a good standard from what I've learned. I think BSA will have to be careful with their price point, as if they are in the bracket of Weihrauch HW95's, then Weihrauch's pedigree is already established. It's a beautiful looking air rifle, and I'd love to see it do well. I'd love to see a slotted male and female breech bolt and a well-made, beautiful breech/lock up.

Nice looking rifle, but I will stick with my Supersport until one of these with under lever and a tap load (Airsporter style, I wish that I had never sold that rifle!)
Just woke up to this, getting washed and showered, and upset the wife i do evertime i get back from my local gunshop. Bank balance will be a little less, but i have to have this rifle. When i saw it on RUclips at the gun show, i promised myself that i would have one. Yes, it's going to cost me a new double sliding all singing and dancing wardrobe, but happy wife, happy husband.
I believe you can remove that sling mount there'll be a hole there but there's already a hole's in the bottom and side of the stock where the stock mounts to the spring receiver so having that hole shouldn't be a big deal.
Hi Guys. So it looks like they put a better trigger system in, and a Georgeous stock, I would like to know guys if it has adjustment breech jaws arrangement. I would of thought so for that price, shame if they didn't. Cheers good vid guys.
I have been a big fan of the Supersport and its derivatives from day one. I always thought it deserved to be upgraded but in recent years there is no doubt quality dropped. Stories vary as to when production moved to Spain, but there is little doubt that quality dropped along with component design. However I shall need some proof that production has fully returned to BSA before I get too excited and rush out to buy one of these new Lightnings. Further more I am hoping that along with the demise of the Gamo trigger and that old barrel pin that the plastic polo mint on the head of the piston has gone to. You mention .177 and .22 is there to be a .25 I wonder?? Well I am off to see if I can find any drawings. Press releases etc.
First thoughts is that the mineli stock sets it off..my problem with the Italian stocks made by Mineli is that they take too much wood out where the stock screws fit...Is the butt pad adjustable? The silencer/moderator is it removable, if you wanted to fit something else? Also does the silencer actually do anything on a spring rifle in terms of suppression? Anyway I'll have a look at one at the shooting show in a few weeks time.. Thanks for another great video..
Butt pad is adjustable, vertically. The barrels are threaded 1/2" 20 UNF. 177 barrel is 2"/50mm longer than 22. In my experience, a HW moderator makes a decent difference on a HW95.
Picked mine up today and on the whole its a fine gun to shoot, sadly let down by bsa's inability to fit a decent trigger, exceptionally long first stage and a harsh second stage. Once the trigger sears mating surfaces have been polished im sure it'll improve somewhat but it's never going to be anywhere close to a weihrauch trigger
Apparently a slightly longer adjustment screw helps like the older ones. funnily the trigger on the old supersport I had was decent, it was an accurate gun too unlike all the lightnings I had though my hands after.....
This has got my trigger finger itching a tad, I did have the model before and it was absolutely terrible and agree the trigger was awful so maybe BSA have been paying attention and come up with a real gem and I’m going to wait a while until I see some more reviews and may commit but please review the 22 also.
There's only 50mm difference between this lightning clx and the 95 and the lightning is more expensive than the 95! Comparing it to the 99 which is in a completely different lower price bracket is showing that bsa can't keep up with hw's base module that is 25 years old
That's a standard Gamo Recoil Reducing Rail that nobody can figure out how it's suppose to work. I started taking them off to get proper eye relief. Looks like they took the Gamo trigger off and this one is all BSA. I didn't see whether this was had a spring or a gas ram. That's a really nice airgun. I wish Gamo would bring these to their Gamo USA website.
It would have been lovley if this review had actually mentioned some of its feature instead of all the waffle . Is it - Grt or spring . Length of pull Length of barrel Silencer removal /size /thread Breach arangement Barrel pin Barrel detent Trigger blade / adjustment Sling screws Cocking leaver Etc etc . Come on chaps more info please .
Nice gun, but spoilt for me by the integral silencer/balance so I won't be buying one, which is a pity, as with some of the other comments I hope they make an underlever.
I think it is time for BSA to ditch the lightning name. The Spanish made ones have ruined the name. If they are making them in Birmingham again then i say it is time to re-introduce the Mercury and Airsporter names. This new lightning looks ok if a little bit like a recent Diana. Because it is uk made i will buy one and maybe it will banish the nightmares about the Spanish made ones i used to own.
One day BSA will catch up with HW 😂 The HW 99 & 95 is far more accurate and better than this and if its anything like the original lightning you’re struggle to keep it coming out of the stock even with loctite on stock screws 😂
You missed out the breach pin is now a bolt so no more loos barrel, I'm impressed by it and glad it does not have that awfull gammo trigger 😅. My faith in bsa is returning and hope they do a underleaver rifle and bring more choices of Springer type
was just gonna ask em that mate nice one hope they do an underlever next

@FrostiTheRoadman ow that's a abit of a bummer about the trigger unit as that was also a fail point of the sears letting go of the piston .
@ it’s a better unit but still has the adjustment screw for sear engagement and if you dial in the second stage to be super crisp and light it becomes dangerous like the gamo one, from the factory it’s like the gamo unit with a longer screw mod set up safely.

Well done guys for featuring this rifle nobody else has bothered yet including the press!!.

Well you have given me some food for thought and the one question for me was the trigger and you have answered it. Great review of a nice looking gun.
Looks quality, just what’s needed a good UK built spring gun, brilliant news 👍

Just ordered one in .177 with walnut stock.
Great video as always, love the subtle humour. I hope this rifle is as good as it seems and is a huge success. Take care.
Nice video .gives us shooters something to think about 👌keep it up guys
Unbelievably accurate rifle. This is without doubt going to be a classic.
Beautiful looking rifle, I always prefer a drop down grip rather than the slanted sporter style.
Looks an amazing rifle, at first look I thought it looks very much like the theoben scirroco

Another great wee video...and rifle...😊😊😊

I hope this is as good as you say because the other BSA springers are gash.
The small part of the recoil mount hasn't got a dove tail on it making the scope move. It's only technically on by the front mount
the previous lightening suffered with low power also down around 9ftlb on occasion
That stock or similar on a 99 please Weihrauch👍🏻
Would be one hell of a rifle 👌👌👌
Nice review but come on guys that rear scope mount is really badly positioned overhanging the back of the rail!
I believe you can remove that sling mount there'll be a hole there but there's already a hole's in the bottom and side of the stock where the stock mounts to the spring receiver so having that hole shouldn't be a big deal.
The stock has lovely lines,it reminds me of an early Air Arms Kymira.
Hi Guys.

I beleave it now has a bolt and is able to nip up the breach

If the trigger is better & the breech bolt adjusts,,,....winner winner chicken dinner :)
Can any springer beat the hw99 for 300 quid ?
Nope.
Nope not close
Probably not, my 99 is awesome (was well under £300 when I bought it too), but this offering from BSA is very interesting.
My 95k is faultless keeps up with the pcps
@@connor2dap884 Absolutely buddy.

Good review and it does look very nice, not a fan of the rail though.
Rail is removeable, standard 11mm dovetails underneath.
Looks like there’s a little creep in the second stage?
@@greylag8630 There is, but it’s minimal. I pretty much got rid of it by lightening the pull weight - the trigger is adjustable for that.
Give me hw 80 any day BSA not so much😂
It looks like a up dated version of the new BSA super meteor.
