- Labour will “take the brakes off Britain” when it unveils its first King’s Speech on Wednesday, Sir Keir Starmer has said.
The new Government is set to present a “packed” legislative agenda focused on improving living standards by driving economic growth, the first of the Prime Minister’s five “missions for national renewal”.
The address - the first Speech from the Throne under a Labour government for 14 years - is expected to contain more than 35 Bills and draft Bills with an emphasis on improving transport, creating jobs and accelerating the building of houses and infrastructure as Labour seeks to escape Britain’s recent cycle of low growth.

I've been looking into some safer investment options. It's crucial to find the right balance and not just rely on the government to sort things out.
I agree, but we also need more support from financial advisors. There should be more aid for people struggling with the basics like rent and food.
Solar panels should be on housing and industrial roofs, not farming land!

I have solar panels. My bill is 1/3 less than my neighbours and I get money back every 3 months. Paid for themselves already.

I have worked in the energy sector for 20 yrs both fossil and renewables, and what gets me is the dishonesty about wind and solar, they NEVER give you the full picture just that it's great and the only way, it's NOT. Yes use some elements of it but to try and rely solely on wind, solar and hydro without some fossil fuels or nuclear is irresponsible at best. Nearly all wind turbines and solar panels are produced in China, which puts us in a precarious position to say the least, they will have a massive input into our infrastructure, and creates similar issues to us buying loads of oil and gas from countries like Russia, but the Gov will never tell you that. Offshore wind farms damage the ocean environment with evidence that the vast increase in whales and other sea mammals washing ashore is down to offshore wind turbines, it also affects other sea life. On shore will have the same effect on wildlife and also cause issues with the local climate they can affect the local temperature and distribution of clouds and rainfall in the area. They also need to be carefully located for example at least 12 miles from airports or military airfields, they can also create electro magnetic interference so they can affect TV, radio, microwave, mobile phones/towers and radar.
Also the vast construction projects that will be required and all that goes with them and decommissioning, that can also have a negative impact on the environment. Solar farms also have their own issues they can have major impacts on local biodiversity and ecosystems causing loss of habitat, and impacting multiple species. Like wind turbines panels can also affect the local climate and actually cause a rise in temperature in the local area (dependant on how hot the location consistently is) The manufacturing process causes major environmental issues, as the mining required etc causes environmental damage and lets not forget that to produce these panels the manufacturing process requires extreme heat to produce the panels, and guess how that extreme heat is produced? That's right by gas and coal. Then there is the issue of decommissioning panels, at the moment not a massive problem but as panels are utilised more and more then there will be a massive issue in how and where to decommission/dispose of them, because it can cause enormous environmental damage due to the chemicals, if not disposed of properly vast amounts of land/water will be damaged forever, and we all know how huge multinationals love to do things on the cheap and break the rules to save some money, so we know there will be unlawful dumping.
I have no problem with renewables after all I worked in the industry, what I have a problem with is the public not being given the full picture or information so they can make an informed opinion, or understand the implications if an installation is coming to their area. When Gov's don't give the full picture it's almost like they have something to hide, and this Gov seems to want to impose what it likes on people without giving them a say or even letting them know what the issues are that could directly affect them, and that's just dishonest and all because if we are informed we can then challenge them and that's one thing they don't want.

The building boom of the1930s was completely different. All the materials were British made, the labour was mostly British, the electrical and white goods were all made in Britain......oh and we actually had building companies that directly employed trades and trained apprentices. Fast forward to the present. All the materials from abroad, most of the labour from abroad , white goods from abroad.....and " management only " construction companies that, train no one..

The bills are not being presented today, the government is setting out a legislative agenda. That said, policy positions will have been worked out in some detail, so the writing of the bills can be undertaken relatively quickly. I am surprised that you think a party should be elected to power and not have any idea what it's going to do. Admittedly the Brexit referendum was secured on that basis, but generally you would hope for some significant preparatory work to have been done. Are you suspicious simply because it is a Labour Government?

I think previous governments have let 'things' drift for the past 30 years. They've been lazy about keeping up to date with changes and improvements in many industries so now we find ourselves lagging behind. As for illegal immigrants - Blair first opened the door for them and no-one since then has had the courage to close it.

Well you can see who owns the media and how well the Conservatives served those few media magnates. However the British people are not stupid and alot of the votes for labour were in fact a caning by conservative voters for the last government treating them as if they were and for forgetting exactly who they were supposed to be serving.
