  • Former chancellor Jeremy Hunt has hit back at his successor Rachel Reeves and said she had privileged access to Treasury civil servants from January and could have discovered the £20bn "black hole" which has "magically emerged" since then.
He added: "If you're in charge of the economy, it's time to stop trash talking it. She should stop playing politics with Britain's reputation and get on with running the economy."

Labour has had nearly four weeks in office and what is their record so far?
    1. They're letting prisoners out earlier despite crime going out of control.
    2. They've done nothing as yet to deport foreign criminals such as the Nigerian responsible for knifing an army officer recently or the Pakistanis attacking airport security in Manchester.
    3. They've cancelled the only scheme so far to be able to remove illegal immigrants and have given an amnesty to huge numbers. [What has happened to the new law criminalising illegal immigrants?]
    4. They've started a 'Green' company to encourage investment in 'Green Energy' that no-one will invest in.
    5. They've made an agreement to pay above inflation rises to the salaries of public sector workers (average salary £45,000 per year) while reducing pensioners' income by £300 per year when the state pension is only £11,502.40.

@@sueelliott8085 IFS , some of Rachel Reeves findings genuinely shocking. It’s said , Hunts cuts to NI (which Sunak boasts of) looks ‘ever less defensible’). Didn’t seem plausible when announced anyway. Sunak perpetuated an aura around himself as a financial genius. Far from the truth, as the Tory’s have found out to their loss. ‘Cause fools rushed in.

The OBR are investigating the assumptions made in their own audit though, using information given by the Government of the day. Feed garbage in, get garbage out. The outcome of the OBR investigation will be something that will make the “no money left” letter (which was left as a traditional joke between incoming/outgoing chancellors) look good by comparison.
There’s always an expectations gap between what an audit does and what people feel an audit should do. It’s not an auditors job to ensure things are free from fraud or error, that is the preparer’s job.

And why did debt rise old Son?
      1. Inheriting a massive embedded deficit in 2010 that took 7 years of so called 'austerity' to balance the economy and then 4 years of COVID, global recession, global inflation and a war in Europe hitting fuel costs. During which THIS man and Sunak paid out billions to keep people's families safe, keep businesses running and pay half of everyone's fuel costs.
