The second part was so uncomfortable for me, i can't express exactly how i feel about it. It took me a while to realise that the mices that refused to leave looked exactly like those bugs. Just like you mentioned, the simple words about them liking the house felt more and more creepy as they kept saying it, and the main character following them without a word just made me feel really sad for him
However the first part was so good that i wished we had more of it!

I think, genuinely, the first part establishes a past for the house, driven by human greed and materialistic desires. The second part only makes sense with the house filled with vermin. The main character is a rat, and he's trying to drive away bugs who won't leave. The third hit me in the head the second time I watched it: the house is flooding, and cats don't like water.

For me the 3rd storie was incredibly hard hitting, it's the less drammatic in theory but I saw myself in the landlady so much that I couldn't stop crying, she saw the house as her dream, her "destiny" but it was dragging her down and she had to realise that there was another way.
As someone who had to make big changes in her life and had to let go of her dream because it was fiscally Nd mentally hurting me this was great.

Act I was the best to me. I especially took note when the father snapped at his daughter for not being impressed with her parents new outfits. She clearly appreciated the loving environment of their former home. As for Act III- I don't think that naming the character Cosmos and learning to let go after letting Cosmos aka the Universe aka Love in was coincidental. In the 3rd act, we see the love of what matters- family (biological or surrogate) help break the curse of the house aka materialism. Thus bringing the story full circle.

I liked the first story, it was insane and so creepy and left you feeling unsettled. The second I was just confused with what even was happening.?
While the third one I felt more like Rosa was in fact dead and had drowned in the flood. It could explain why she doesn't want to talk about it. Everyone who had lived in the house moved on or was ready to move on to the afterlife.. In fact I felt that the place where she was, was like the in between life and death, like a purgatory.. I felt that it was about dying and letting go and moving on to the afterlife? Cause that's what it felt like to me that where she was, wasn't real and everyone who was there also wasn't alive and unable to move on to whatever waited them in the afterlife. I felt that she was trapped in the house, so her friends she had were there to help her move on, or trying to help her leave, by making the house into a boat she was finally able to let go and find out what's waiting for her.

Yeah, I think I'd agree with these rankings, though I could go back and forth on 1 and 2 given my mood. While the first is such a sublime creepy example of gothic horror, the thing I love about the 2nd is how both funny and surreal it is. Even the unsettling creepy elements are often really funny at the same time which is pretty impressive. The third, while really lovely, felt like it belonged in a different anthology. I didn't dislike it per se but it had none of the creepiness of the other two.

i think people really tend to undervalue the third episode, as it had a storyline as easy to follow and understand as the others if not moreso. and maybe because of my bias towards cats, but i also found Rosa to be a character i can understand and empathize with more easily than any of the others. the lack of horror aspects within her story made room for what i felt was a deeper emotional focus on something that didn't need to be creepy to be scary necessarily.

    • @theglitch312
      @theglitch312 Год назад +2

It was the simplest, least ‘scary’ and got the point across the best.
To me, those are all the hallmarks of a good story. But many people give lower scores to less complicated narratives.
The others were way more abstract, sure. As a result, they’re also more open to interpretation besides ‘materialism bad’ and ‘it’s probably about mental health, maybe?’
Those are not as interesting, as clear or captivating as the emotional massage of the last.
I appreciate when a film knows the story that it wants to tell, and simply tells that story. That’s what story 3 did the best for me.
And it was cathartic as hell. Anybody can write a bad ending, but writing a story with 4 characters in 30m with a cathartic ending? Difficult… But it managed to do so very well imho.

My favorite episode was the second one. I liked how it was set in present-day, but was also so eerie. I LOVED when the mice became mouse-beetle hybrids at the end, so creepy! And the music was perfect for that ending it was so cool. It also helped me realize that the 2 elderly mice are shaped like the 2 varieties of beetles he had tried to get rid of throughout the whole episode. Also, learning that the person he had been talking to was his male dentist was such a cool plot twist. ALSOOO loved the parallel of the name "Isobel" for the baby mouse. the first episode was also incredible, but I think the third one was kinda weak.

I loved the second one. For some reason the psychological horror for me was that bugs were pretending to be mice, this is so similar to how leeches in real life pretend to be proper human beings, and they gain your trust, manipulate and lie to you,
trying to overtake your life, when you start to believe them they show their true colour. Horrible. I also loved how at the end the mice returned to how mice are in real life as pests.

Ngl 2nd one is *by far* my absolute fav. I'm aware main theory is that story symbolizes materialistic obsession but imo it probably has different meaning. I consider it metaphor for obsession (not necesarilly materialistic) slowly crushing someone's already delicate mental state (Developer was anxious whole time) while that person is under constant pressure and has absolutely no support. I thought about it that way ever since i watched it and i cant describe how bad i feel for Developer. Ending was flawless imo as it represented him completely giving up and then going insane

  • @scrawnybirdaf

I think there may be a connection in all the stories with the color green.
In the first part, when they get to the house, there were lots of green elements, such as the curtains. During that time period, the color green was seen as a sign a wealth since it was so rare, but the pigment that was used to make it, contained arsenite, which was toxic and killed anyone close to it. It symbolizes how being caught up in their materialism, lead to thier downfall.
In the second one, the powder bottle that he used to kill the beetles was also green. He sprayed that stuff everywhere, just hoping it would go away, instead of solving it properly. He too met his demise from his refusal to use the proper solution.
In the final part, the wallpaper that rosa was putting up was green. She was ignoring the actual problem and just trying to cover it up with pretty wallpaper. Luckily, she was able to let go of it and gain some amount of control.
They were all using green to cover the actual problems in their lives, just like how people use money to cover theirs. The common theme in all of these stories is losing control and losing what really matters. They all opted to just cover it up on the surface instead of fixing it up from the roots. They were so lost in their delusions to the point where they're too blind to notice what's actually happening around them.
All in all, it's a great movie with lots of symbolism still left to uncover.

Am I the only one that thinks the first was the worst out of the 3 .-. Yes it was still brilliant but there isnt much to sink your teeth into and think about, its all very cut and dry. Whereas the other 2 had tons to wonder about and that helps it linger in your mind, unclear symbolism and the fact that we arent sure what actually happened in either of the following 2 stories made it that much creepier for me. Like in 3 we can be pretty sure that Rosa was actually all alone for the entire thing, the tennants were figments of her imagination and the house didnt actually become a boat (Im pretty sure the boat sailing off was meant to symbolise Rosa passing on)

The part that I loved about the 2nd part was the ending. Watching that ending made me really say, “Okay I need to take a break and try to go to sleep.” It wasn’t “scary” more unsettling than anything. Spoilers: First watch I thought it was going to end at the Welcome Home Party then cut to black next story. But no. The music, the destruction of the house, and the cherry on top the rat mc falling into the madness and turning into a “pest”. I felt like that was the perfect ending of just pure madness.
In addition, even though the first part is equally as unsettling with the body horror, I feel like you can kinda piece together what you are going to happen metaphor wise. “Parents get consumed to the luxury of the house that they basically become part of the house.” The second part, however, made me confused on whats going on and where the story’s going. A whole enjoyable mindfuck for me.
But yea the third part was weak to me. Lighthearted but I started enjoying feeling uncomfortable. Hope this company makes more short stories 💕

Personally I liked the third one the best, the first one second best, and the second one last. The third one has great character designs, pleasant and engaging characters, and was generally more light-hearted. I thought the dystopian world was really neat and the ending was really powerful, a great conclusion to all of the house. It is a happy ending, as the house has now broken free from the curse. IDK I just really loved the characters and the conflicts, they were really relatable and the protagonists struggles to fix the house felt engaging to me. I would love a full length movie on this, maybe like a Wes Anderson movie. Something that's light-hearted but still has deep characters.
The first film is obviously the most popular, and its easy to see why. It has great character designs, cinemataography, and is generally really well directed. I just think it lacks in story and character, none of them are really that engaging. Its just generally creepy, which is fine, but there isn't a big sense of connection like with the third one. I thought the ending was fine, but it was just kind of under-whelming to me. I would watch a full length movie on this if they added some more character and changed the ending.
The second film was still really good, but was my least favorite. I think the story wasn't super interesting and the ending was just... Eh? It was fine I guess, and I get it is about mental illness, but it really doesn't feel very connected with the other two. After the dentist reveal, I would've loved to see the protagonist descend into that insanity and it be potratyed better, or have more time with the weird cult of bugs to explain what they are or give more depth, but that never happened. I also didn't really like the character design. I would really like a movie on this if they could explore an obessed mentally ill man being infiltrated by a cult, that would be great.
Overall, they were all amazingly directed and I enjoyed every single film a ton. Even if I critized the second film a lot, I still really loved it. Overall this movie was a 8/10, and I would love a sequel, or prequel, or a continuing of the anthology. I would also love a sequel to the third film.

I liked 2 the most but was kinda disappointed when it turned out he was suffering a delusional about the dentist. Really I had thought 2 was about how dangerous it is to put off problems because you’re too busy. He was trying to do up the whole house on his own without help, at the expense of not being able to masterfully complete any of the tasks. If he just spread the workload it would be easier and a job better done. Instead he plows on and just ignores the problem of the infestation which manifests into the unwelcome guests. Of course the unwelcome guests are the beetles. This last summer I was working so much that I put off getting an appointment for this infection on my leg and now after spreading so much it’s gonna leave a permanent scar. I guess the idea is that the unwanted guests were literally beetles and that he was suffering a delusion about that too but idk I would’ve preferred if it wasn’t explicitly shown he was delusional because you don’t have to be delusional to put off problems.

As many have said in the comments, I actually could connect with the third story the most. I thought the actual theme of that story was the difficulty of letting go when you're so attached to an old goal, that you can't even picture a future without it, even if it's a hopeless goal. Reminded me of a phrase I read somewhere that said "Wanting a future is not betraying your past".
But I guess it wasn't so much horror as the others (It's ok, I like dramas with some creepy elements more than full-on horror). However, I can appreciate a full-on horror story, and I thought the first story was incredibly creepy and well done.
I have to confess also that I watched the three stories separated by weeks and maybe months. The first 2 creeped me out too much to continue that same day (The second one I could say it was more uncomfortable than creepy or scary), but I'm glad the third one also had spooky elements, yet it ended on a happy note. It's a great horror anthology to me

My ranking: first place- 2nd story, second place- 3rd story, third place - first story. They're all good but the other 2 stories have more metaphors into it and leave me questioning and making theories, first one doesn't seem to have that effect

Perhaps the three stories are the writer losing sight as the wonder sets in, but of course realizing there has to be some beauty in the sadness towards the end.
    Idk!

I don’t think the curse was lifted. The house managed to ensure its own survival through this flood. In one scene she asks the house to let her go.. but it didn’t, it went with her. The house is still alive and on the journey with them 😯 but I think you actually talk about that in another video. I think that was you anyway lol. I’m not sure xD

I like the first story the most.
But the second one was the weirdest and I was so fucking scared.
Maybe it's because Iam so fucking scared of insects. And the combination of these little things and the rats at the end fucking gives me the creeps.
I couldn't sleep very well after the second one.

For me I think the second one triggered my "fear" of decay, especially with how fast everything got so bad. I don't mind more "graceful" decay (natural, overtime stuff) but that ending was so sudden. But I also feel like there was more to it than just that, but I'm not sure what.
