Salut Pearl ! 😁

Thanks for sharing your story. I’m an Australian living in a different state to Victoria. In mid 2021 I was living in France actually. My distant relatives told me the horrible stories of their long, strict and gruelling lockdown conditions that I had definitely not experienced in Australia. I moved there just as restaurants were opening again. It’s interesting that you had this experience with Australia and you felt that every body else in the world was free because in France there was major lockdowns and everything shut too, for months and months and months. I’m glad you love Australia. My husband is French and he is living here with me in Queensland. Queensland certainly didn’t have many lockdowns or restrictions which I’m grateful for. It’s definitely difficult to live away from your home country, I know how hard it is for my husband and his family. This is the life we choose though. Anyhoo, best of luck I love your work thank you for teaching xx

That's true, I was actually in Australia, in NSW, during COVID and was in year 10 at the time. I actually found that the lockdowns were fairly short compared to the rest of the world (at least according to the news) and while they were fairly strict after they had been lifted, we had a lot of freedom and there were extremely low rates of COVID.
But anyway, that was just what I experienced.

Interesting perspective thanks for speaking on what it was like for you in Australia...I felt the same way about France I was in Paris for the lock down and felt like all my friends and family had freedom back home in London. When I went home to visit it was so nice to eat at a restaurant, go to the gym etc. Wearing a mask wasn't forced but recommended. France was very authoritative mandating the V-pass and masks outside in open spaces. It was an intense experience.

While I do honestly feel for your situation, Australia had its lockdowns for a reason, and once they had managed to get it under control it worked out for them. Also, you at least had a job and a passport so technically did have the option to leave if you tried.

Melbourne, Victoria had terrible lockdowns! We did for a little while here in Queensland and we’ve had police reinforcing masks for a few months just bc we had the lowest covid-related deaths at the time all throughout 2020 and wanted to keep it that way. After that the lockdowns eased off slowly. I don’t know what country had it easy bc a world pandemic is kind of a big deal lol.

You can move to anywhere you want.
      You only live once.
I live in Melbourne Australia and have lived and worked in Italy, which compared to here was far less strict.
I would move back in a heartbeat, but our $ is very low to the Euro.
I came back because of family, and although I love them dearly they are grown up, married and have kids and I'm not wanted for babysitting or anything really.
It would be a huge gap in my heart to leave again, but quite honestly I don't know what or where I want to be.
I certainly don't have the money to uproots and go travelling and have nothing to come back to.
It's a hard decision to make, during COVID Melbourne had the toughest restrictions, nearly 300 days locked up inside - I live alone and didn't see anyone or go further than 5 kmd from home. But I understood why, because the numbers of people dying in the US, UK and Europe were frightening and there was nothing and no one who had lived through a pandemic to refer to.
Sorry my message is very long 😃

Sad to hear you left Australia because of the horrific lockdowns here but of course completely understandable! I could not believe how authoritarian our governments were, and more so how most people were fine with the measures imposed here!

Lockdowns here in Australia were enforced for a reason - to keep vulnerable, immunocompromised individuals healthy. You were lucky to have a job to work. And lucky you could leave the country as so many could not.
