- Dom makes you feel old. Did you know he was alive to see the release of Sonic 1? Be careful, he might turn to bones any second now.
Note: this video specifically releases today because it's the first day the statement about the time span being bigger is true. Yesterday the distances of time were the same. Today we one day further away to TF2's release than Sonic 1 is. Crazy, ah?
It really goes to show the exponential improvement in graphics in video games
Well put
It actually doesn’t, that would imply the games after tf2 would improve in a SHORT time period, but it’s been even more years to today.
and how well tf2s artstyle has aged.
@@No-pm4ssNo, they meant the absolute boom in graphical quality between the 90s and 2000s, it was incredibly fast back then, you went from 16 bit era in the mid 90s to just about ‘96 playing 3D games at home
@@InkyGhoulThe right word would be logarithmic, started out with massive improvements then progressively got slower and slower
I don't want to be part of time anymore, not when I can't keep up man...
Just ride the wave how you want. Time, like life, is meaningless. Not in the sense that it has no purpose, but instead you can decide what purpose that would be. If you can't catch up, find another road for you to take. Cheers, and always fight ennui. 🍻
@@RaveDecoy242holy shit. that goes hard as fuck
ALSO ALSO, the Team Fortress franchise started as a mod for Quake back in 1996. The gameplay of TF2 compared to its contemporaries is a lot closer to old school arena FPS vs modern military fps. So even in its prime I think one could consider at least its gameplay to be “retro”
Funny that it was planned to be a gritty, militaristic shooter
time is like scout. it never stops.
bonk.
And TF2 art style still has so much soul and is unlike basically any other game. Same with most valve games. God I wish valve made games anymore.
give it another decade, as the great lord gaben once said, "after 9 years in development..."
So about that...
They made deadlock
Kids born in the same year as team fortress 2 are now taking driving lessons btw
Yup, my brother was and he’s driving by himself now!
No I'm not
@@adamon2256agreed
"Conclusion: i don't know"
Worst part is that everyone keeps trying to modernize the game, and even Valve when they added matchmaking. But that's the thing, TF2 is not a modern game.
It's timeless
Someone brought up a fantastic explanation, retro isn't a matter of time but rather progression.
Think this through, every Nintendo console had a 5 year gap in between each console release, by the time the GCN came out both the NES and SNES were considered retro and the N64 would be called such by the time the Wii released, yet the Gamecube wouldn't be called retro until it was close to reaching it's 20's atleast because you could still take a gamecube game and re-release it on modern consoles with an upscale and updated lighting, I still remember when the OG Xbox and PS2 were still considered modern consoles right up until 2019ish.
Time doesn't dictate if you are retro or not, progress does, and it seem that progress has slowed down considerably
We’ve got to get another name for 2000’s era video games. Retro should be only for 80’s to early 90’s games
I think it’s mainly the relevance it has in our culture and the art style holding up
TF2 is forever.
It’s so engrained in internet culture thanks to so many fan works.
It’s not over until the final comic is released.
Also I really miss when medics syringe gun was animated and the models had more natural lighting on them. (I haven’t played TF2 for a long time so I don’t know if these got updated. Stopped around gun metal was a thing).
Classic is before 2000s
Black jack missed an opportunity to be heavy
This goes to show that the concept of retro really has very little to do with age, and more to deal with whats considered Nostalgic. I wouldn't consider tf2 a nostalgic game, because for many people it has never left
It's never single-player that should be the second weirdest thing.
All of us will be grey before we even realize.
It's only slightly longer, probably less than a year
17 yrs tomorrow
this is too much for my brain to process
ssshhh! don't tell them it's a retro game they're gonna bump up the price like crazy!
I was born in 2007 and I think of every game older than me as retro, but it came out on 2007 so it’s in a limbo state between retro and not retro so theirfor you don’t have to feel old about this… My logic is absolutely perfect here
My brain hurts ☹️
I dont think of any 2007 game that id call retro
Well I think retro now is perceived more as an era than a measure of time. Because people would not feel that tf2 is retro.
Kinda is on my opinion since tf2 is pretty old
Im 14 days older than this tf2.
I miss when game companies took time to make actually good games that lasted for years instead of copying and pasting the same game every year and charging double each time.
TF2 Is a war theme hat simulator
dude
im ten days older than tf2
so this is not news its just a reminder that both my favourite game and i are getting old
I’m barely older than tf2 and that’s by months
The thing is, we don't play the version from 2007 today, we play hundreds of updates worth of additions and changes.
You can play the 1.0 build of the game and it’s completely different than what we have today. Far more archaic; far more simple; far easier to call a retro game.
@@YaBoiBrendo Yes, but it is fair to assume that we understand TF2 as we currently play it as the TF2 in question and not some outdated older version
STOP MAKING ME FEEL OLD WHAT THE FUCK
And to think that only 7 years after sonic was spyro… still hate that I can’t play that legend reboot trilogy because Xbox live sucks on 360 now… can’t purchase anything on 360 anymore. Shutdown in july of 2024 my (behind), nothing works.
its just that good
Crazy?
aww man its retro :(
Which game have that pyro cart?
It’s the old cleopatra is closer tkk on the first McDonald’s opening then to the construction of the great pyramids. Talk but for video games
you: **calls sonic old**
me: *first game i played when i was younger was pong on the Atari 2600*
I didn't call it old. I just said it was retro back then so TF2 should be retro now. Plus if Sonic 1 is old that means I'm old as I was born like a month before it released.
@@s4videos
you are old
so am i
own it
"retro" is not a measurement of time, but of relevance.
Tf 2 monopoly TAKE MY MONEY
I only concider games with very very old looking graphics retro games...
TF2's graphics are technically very dated.
Do you have a Patreon? Cause I'm willing to pay you $20 not to do this amount of psychic damage again
I already know this
In 4 years the same will happen with Skyrim. Retro is becoming a very off-putting term.
Still getting updates to dis day
*TO DIS DAY*
don't say that too loud, valve doesn't care about the game anymore. who knows if we get any cool updates anymore
@@mr.m2675 🫵😌 hey, the bot crisis is dealt with and the summer update is fun
@@JLkeepinitrealdude as stupid as it is, i didn't boot the game up in a long time
@@mr.m2675 💀 get on- NOW
Sonic was considered retro in 2007 tho. Source: me being alive and lucid in 2007 lol
Dont call it retro, im not old 🥲
You also have to consider updates. Tf2 is kinda a 2015-17 game
Its not retro its classic
Eh.
I miss pre f2p tf2 now is so bad
I was born in the same year that TF2 was released
So I don’t like this video
It makes me feel old
It's because TF2 has no Agenda, no stupid half-baked stories, nor does it's parent company SA their employees.
The term retro is so outdated to describe games with active service models.
Me: born 2007
Tf2: born 2007
What we have im common?
We are retro 😎
Me: *is only a singular year older than you*
Also me: The spaghetti on my plate is more retro than you.
Why do sound like that Jesus Christ man
Me have stroke try read this
Remember in 2004 when the AVGN refused to review Majora's Mask, Conker and Smash for the N64 because he said those games just came out and that he only reviews retro games that have been out for years?
We truly live in scary times.
Thanks for reminding me that I'm fucking old.
Thanks. I hate it.
