This video covers how to replace the drive and display on a Pentair pool pump. We were repairing a pump that had been working fine but then stopped working. The installation is pretty simple and straightforward and took about an hour. This video is intended for entertainment. I had the EXACT same thing happened to me= The pump died. After watching your video, I snoop around and found a burn mark on the bottom of the control panel. I ordered a new drive online and followed your directions. Long story short, the pump is now working perfectly. I can't thank you enough for uploading your video. It saved me a ton of money! 😎👍

the same thing happened to me last month. it is sitting in my basement i ordered a new vs black and decker 2 hp for $1000- with a full 5 year warranty.

Funny, mine just gave up the ghost yesterday. I didn’t see burn marks so was curious if it was the drive or just the display. I wonder if anyone repairs these drives.
Your point about the cost savings is dead on. I’ll probably go back to a reliable old pump motor
That was my thought exactly- to go back to old style- but I was told they no longer make single speed over 1hp. Repair for now…
Mine is giving code 021. I checked all connections and they are fine. The pump will run, then turn off. A minute later turn off again. Motor runs fine. Just the dang driver. Mine was purchased in 2020.
The error code 21 is listed as - Communication Link between the HMI and Motor control has been lost: Check the jacketed wire on the backside of the keypad inside the drive top cover. Ensure that the 5 pin connector is properly plugged into the socket and that there is no damage to the cable.

@@travelbuildcreate , I think I tracked my problem down to overheating and it trips this code. I took my control module off like your video. The cooling Fins were full of spiderwebs and debris. Not much cooling going on. Time will tell. But 3 hours later it is still running. I was pretty close to buying a new pump, then a new control. Fingers crossed it is just leaves and spiderwebs. Seems crazy to me that they did not anodize the top. Powder coat is an insulator.
So a lot of times motor starting issues are a result of the start up capacitor dying, is there no way to simply replace the capacitor on these pumps? I'm getting Error 002 more and more often and have to mess around with the pump(power cycle, manually spin motor a few times) to get it going, so suspect at some point it won't start at all .. very annoying
Some info on the code 02 (among others) as listed on the site address below.
*17,16, 02, 08, 04, 06, 09, 0A - Internal Errors: These errors can occur based on operating conditions and the UL 60730 required self-diagnostic safety software. If they do not clear after multiple restart attempts, the drive should undergo a hard power cycle. Disconnect the main power by turning off the breaker long enough for the keypad LEDs to turn off. After power is reconnected if one of these errors continues to reappear, the drive may need service.

@@travelbuildcreate thank you very much for that information, it's great to have the list of error codes! As I suspected 02 is current overload, - if I could have fitted a hard start capacitor on it somehow that would probably have addressed the issue for a while - but regardless I think the longer term answer is to get the bearings replaced as it is getting a little stiffer to start turning(manually) - kind of a drag though as the unit isn't even 4 years old yet..
@@davidandrade1107 Yes- the lifespan does not seem to be what it was with past pumps.

just happened to me. same motor. my pb installed the pump in our automation system so it power was constantly being applied and disconnected using a relay. i guess it killed it. 3 years.

Did you have any error codes on the screen?
No error codes. The control panel acted as if it had now power (although there was power to the pump)
I was wondering where’s is the battery for storing the memerybwhwn the power goes out ?? Can you replace that ?
