Rank Progression in Halo Master Chief Collection

With the inclusion of Halo Reach in the Master Chief Collection, we were given a battle pass like progression system with ranks, but the reaction to it seems to be mixed with many different opinions. Is it an excessive grind, or is it fair and balanced?
