As a child watching black and white movies (as we called them) in Africa, I fell in love with Bette Davis. She took me to different times and places which always remain in my heart!❤❤❤
Isn't Bette Davis simply the best! One of the many reasons I truly admire her is, her lack of vanity. During the time (& I'm sure still today) so many actors and actresses would refuse any role that would force them to look "undesirable" aka ugly. However Bette took on these roles (The Virgin Queen, Baby Jane etc) with grace and determination. She is one of absolute favourites. Btw, we call old movies "black and white" here (the US and Canada) also. 😊
The editing of this film is absolutely extraordinary !! I really do feel like I watching two separate actresses talking to each other on screen. Bette was one out a very small group of actress to grace the Hollywood screen and make a profound impact on her audience.
It really is. The Parent Trap came out 12 years after this, and the editing isn't nearly as good. That was in color, though, I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with it.
2021 An all time favorite My Girl Mrs Betty Davis. I have not met a star as great as this actress. We don't have them anymore. RIP BETTY DAVIS. WE LOVE YOU.
I started watching TCM after I returned home at 4am from work. I had to stay awake until 8am to get my young son to school. That's when I fell in love with old movies, and especially Bette Davis. That was 16 years ago (I was 24yo). I'm 40yo now and I still watch TCM religiously. I've moved from the US (where TCM was included with basic cable) to Montreal (where I have to pay extra). However I cannot live without my old movies. I've even gotten my spouse to love them. He had never watched the silver screen classics before, and now he can't get enough. Thank you TCM for all you do. You were a friend during the wee hours of the morning for me, and you have provided me with knowledge about so many wonderful people and places (courtesy of James Fitzgeralds around the world segments).
One of the best movies. Most people don't realize all principal photography was done using the biggest best Warner Bros soundstages and backlot sets. And back in those days when they did need any real locations shots they simply packed up the WB trucks vans and station wagons with people and equipment than drove up the Hollywood mountainside behind Burbank where WB actually owned a movie filming park when it was still all country. Or they drove to Malibu when it was still all baron beach land and ranches. Sure has changed, not for the better.
@@TravisGrahn Her body is superimposed over the arm. ( That was filmed first.) The cigarette is animated. Notice that it isn't lit until after the cut.
There was only ONE Bette Davis! I'm surprised I've not seen this movie so must find it and check it out. The shots of the "twins" are great in the video above.
The filmmaking here was absolutely bleeding edge at the time. Still, it's surprising they didn't think to make sure both shots had the same exact timing so they didn't have to do that "boomerang" thing. Though they did it once with each part of the composite so they probably thought they had it right.

I thought it was just me I’ve had a secret crush on her since the year for.

That lighting effect is EXCELLENT!!
We are used to CGI etc. but back when this came out, audiences gasped aloud at the cigarette lighting.

Bette was the only one who got the LOVE shout out in that song!
Agree. She is the best😊
It's Bette, not "Betty." It's literally written on every one of her films, and on this video. Bette. Not "Betty."

The Queen of Hollywood. I think of her often especially when I look at the night sky. And see the constellation Cassiopia. The Queen of night Sky.
Considering this time in the 40s her playing a twin was phenomenal with this editing
What a wonderful actress she was one of the best I love the double parts she played so brilliantly love her

She played twins again in Dead Ringer.
Wow, how did they do that? And I thought the best filmed "twins" scene was when Alice's cousin Emma came to visit the Brady Bunch!
It took me a while to figure out how they did that move with the match. Very clever.
how did they do that effect?

@@NelsonMontana1234 Thanks for the reply. I slowed it down and could see somewhat of cut in there too. Yeah makes sense. Simple, but really effective.
