Because on this version, if you created an account you could create a player; every player you controlled would have that name/number/appearance. As soon as you switch players, they go back to their actual name and number.

Could you link me to where you got the rom exactly? I downloaded this game and tried to play it on XBSX2, on my Xbox Series S and it runs but as soon as I get to team selection and gameplay, the game seems to slow down and the sound stutters...

The arcadey style of play really does feel great with the aesthetic of the N64's polygon graphics! Playing blitz on 64 just feels right!
