"Neistat's revolutionary move is bringing a decade of videographic experience to a subgenre that prizes amateur craft." And yours, Nerdwriter, is managing to wonderfully articulate something that otherwise couldn't have been put easily into words. Excellent video, as always.
He doesnt have nice eyes anyways to be honest. His eyes always tell the story of a man who gets little sleep but it looks more like he had just seen a man die in his arms as he stole his last breath from a gentle kiss.
He explains it several times. It's so that he can watch the camera monitor, to check framing and composition etc, without looking distracted. It's also now become his trademark / look now. Part of the brand.
I wondered why this video was partial watched.. then I realised I stopped watching to find out who Casey Neistat was and over a hundred videos later I'm back here!
I wonder has he gotten through Caseys 400- 500 other vlogs since that comment.. and don't forget The Neistat Brothers HBO series and the Snapchat stories channel oh and the Caseys classics channel. There might be more.
AGH! This video made me so excited because while I was watching you talk about what makes Casey special, I also started thinking about what makes /this/ channel so special and how much work goes into making Nerdwriter videos seem effortless.
That's the biggest part that makes him stand beyond his imitators is his work ethic, and I'm glad you mentioned that. The guy barely gets a minute to himself. His life is a constant rush and to be honest, as much as I value my own work ethic, I wouldn't like to have the brutality of his.
But that's the thing about Neistat, his work is his life. That's how much he loves it. He gets bored and doesn't know what to do when he's not doing his work.
Not even joking, I just discovered your videos yesterday (through an article that featured your video on Dennis from It's Always Sunny being a serial killer) and I've been binging them ever since. Truly great work, man. Keep it up!
When I first heard about Neistat I was quick to dismiss him as a "RUclips clown." Then I watched his work and discovered I was wrong. He's a very talented creator that works really hard to create entertaining content and has a phenomenal work ethic!
THANK YOU so much for this video. People do not understand what makes casey so popular. Everyone wants to imitate the things that he does. (ride boosted boards, fly drones, etc). People want to live the highlights of his life, but not put in the time and effort to earn that success. It's why they don't get the same views.
Agree! I love when Casey does a shot/edits in a way i would have too in that situation, but to be completely authentic, i would never do what he does the way he does it. There has to be uniqueness in what you do creatively because when it comes to techniques and angles etc, nothing is new under the sun. Everybody can fly a drone, and set up a shot, but it takes your own creativity to do something that's not been done before.
I'd say that people know on some level why a thing is fascinating or unique, but can't consciously say why. Such as PokemonGo. It takes something familiar and places it in a new style (Geocaching) on an a device that is common. It also fixes problems that many free to play games have that turn people away with micropayments by removing the pay for success model, and having the items for sale an option to the user. A direct copy would be identified in an instant, and people would return to the original creator. Because the original creator has shown a level of skill, and perked your curiosity via novelty. That novelty wears off over time, and exposure due to how dopamine works. In a survival sense, this is a good thing because constant dopamine dose would stop you from doing anything and you'd die. For creative work, this forces the artist to survive by pushing their knowledge and work ahead to get noticed.
well not everybody wants to be original, he did inspire those who wanted to be m, and they knew him before he became so popular...and he did inspired me, I can remeber omit was about early in 2013 I found his movies and I watched all other until 4 am, I was trilled, if I would discover vlogs now I could watch max 3, there is acually no story to tell, no thopic, it's just his life...before you could leave him on deseted island and he would make interesting deep movie about something...nowdays it's just about him. I mean I dont need to watch it, but for selfish reason I miss those old videos that didnt have that popularity
Wow! So well done. "There is a style within all of us and there are literally millions of people waiting for you to find it." That's the darnedest more inspiring thing I've ever heard.
One of the telltale signs that Casey Neistat really makes something unique is the fact that even small kids enjoy watching his videos, getting something pleasing from the combo of shots, movement and music/voice while their ignore the narrative completely.
yesterday i was babysitting a 5 month old who got really fussy and started crying i played one of casey's vids and i kid you not he just got instantly mesmerized by the drone shot and the music. thats how i feel every time Casey puts out a new vid and that why hes the greatest youtuber that ever lived
Yeah, he stopped daily vlogging, but continues to upload quality content. Some his super recent videos seem to be bringing back the vlog feel, but that could just be wishful thinking. His content is still great.
You're talented enough brother. In fact on a few of your videos, you have mastered Casey's style. I know when I start in a couple of weeks my style of video will be on par with caseys. THe biggest thing like the great one himself has said, is story. You've got to build towarads something. But my problem is, even with trying to start a successful startup, how can one do this while working an 8-5. Casey has a slight advantage over most of us because he's been blessed to officially be funded and have pre-exisiting capital. But my mind is free, ive got the equipment, I want to see how far I can take my channel, AnimeBusters and build a story around it.
Heavily reminds me of a word: sprezzatura "a certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or says appear to be without effort and almost without any thought about it"
I don't know how he produces 1 video per day So much work has to be put into it: filming with drones, setting up cameras and then waiting for time-lapse shots, doing his work, editing all that... etc Man I respect him
This video has been recommended to me so many times I decided to click on it. I am pleasantly surprised! I thought this was going to be some click-bait "exposed" video.
I was watching ads on the Toys R Us site, and realizing why unboxing and review videos are so demanded. Commercials are terrible and only show what the company wants you to see, in the most painfully scripted way possible. Like the people failing, in As Seen On TV ads.
Infomercial bloopers > people on youtube who like the sound of their own voice too much and make 20 minute videos on a cell phone millions of people already own or a pillow.
I agree 100%, I couldn't stand these misleading commercials and that's why I started my reviewing channel. I believe raw reactions of a product is the best way to get the confirmation whether you should buy it or not. Great comment!
Like when AirBNB failed 3 days ago when someone rented a whole house as a hotel, used it for porn shoot. Turned on the water and left. Damage total $10,000
i give casey full credit for his work ethic and stylr. but the veneer of amateurism is very thin and to use it to somehow sentimentally elevate his work is misguided and misinformative. not every amateur can enter the field with the kind of gears that casey's able to have access to. or the locations he has access to. $$$ the limits to access isn't democratized the way we think it is or hope it to be truly amateur. i dont see why we cant call casey a complete professional utilizing an amateur Style instead of romanticizing it as Form.
The equipment I really don't think is the issue. His true genius is in the planning, most vlogs are amateurish because there is no planning. Casey has a plan, he knows the shots, he knows the basic content of each video. If people spent more time planning and less time worrying about equipment their content would be better. Casey simply has lots of skill at planning content, planning the shot, and editing. Those things come with lots of practice. Yes and sometimes life happens while you're planning and you can get awesome content too.
It's called working with a certain style. It doesn't mean you are a professional that somehow you need to look exactly like all other professional. Find your niche and exploit it....
Apologies in advance if I misunderstood something... but isn't that exactly what this video was saying? "there is nothing amateurish about" Casey, except the 'style' of the videos, which nerdwriter goes on to explain that the lack of corporate influence and polish is what makes 'daily vlogs' successful on youtube. Think your point and this video are trying to communicate the exact same things!
Ahaha an educational video that isn't cringy and is well-formedff going viral. Ahahahahahaha nice one. With the highest subscribed person here being a person screaming at games, most viewed noe being a rap 2% of the world understands and another big channel being 2 guys doing brainless comedy for 10 year olds. You sure have some really pink glasses.
This video was great. Very well edited and explained beautifully. 4:07 "I've never wanted to Share all the intimacies of my life" lol that pretty much summarizes MY vlogs. You could say my vlogs are the polar opposite of Casey's when it comes to production value haha. Ironically, he's what inspired me to start Vlogging. Again, great video I completely agree with everything.
Nerdwriter has been very vocal about how much he appreciates Casey. If you knew about the Nerdwriter's style of video, then you would know that he doesn't make pure hate videos. Even when talks about things he dislikes, it is rational and done in a relatively respectable manner.
ASENBAISEN This was literally the first video I've ever seen by this guy. Never even heard about him until this video. But that's pretty cool, I guess. I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking it was gonna be a hate video, haha.
Agree! He really did! nah, I just want to get away from the bureaucracy of making feature length films the traditional way :) I would rather launch a film on youtube for free if I could find the funding for making it. I think many established filmmakers will follow him and leave. Atleast many independent filmmaker (which I'am a part of). The youth will definitely not accept the industry as it is today. +Ryan Champ +Shpider Man
I am so proud of Neistat. We were once pretty damn good friends. I thought even back in junior high and high school that he had something very special about him. Sucked at school, but excelled at life.
Wonder how Casey would react to this video lol. Love the style of this video though Nerdwriter1. I like that dry erase writing you have over-layed over the scenes.
There are so many little nuances in everything he does. This is a great video to shine some light into how truly hard Casey works every single day, on top of running Beme.
If you watch his vlogs you would know hes just a presence there, he doesn't actually do much. He answers emails, says yes or no, that sort of thing. In this day in age with smartphones and tablets, you can run a company in the comfort of your couch. What he does to make videos is another story - and his traveling is off the board too.
I don't get why people watch "vlogs" to me it seems like not much is going on in the viewers life, so they watch it to feel a part of it, like their friend.
nah its more like they watch it to see something that inspires them day in and day out. It could be that person, it could be the style of the vlog, or it could be something they do everyday in the vlog like working out, etc. They watch it for inspiration to say "well if he can do it, so can i"
I watch Casey's vlogs because he does a lot of interesting things and I really enjoyed watching them when he was creating Beme because it was interesting to see someone run a business. Beme failed, but his vlogs took off and it amazes me how much work and detail he puts into his work every day. His vlogs aren't the typical boring watching someone's life, Casey really makes a movie everyday.
Yes. Living in India, life seems quite bland. And as an introvert, I am always curious to what this species called extroverts do in their life. Seems quite fun actually.
Holy crap. This was so beautiful. You articulate things so masterfully! I particularly loved what you said at the end "there is a style within all of us and there are literally millions of people waiting for you to find it." I mean....wow, I felt that in my bones.
I'm really only familiar with his vlog work and I'm a fan. What was it about the pre-vlog work that you liked? I do enjoy some of the trips (such as the iceberg story with the jetski and helicopter) more than the daily life stuff, is that the type of thing that was more common before the vlog, or was it something else?
coma13794 Have you seen the Make It Count, Bike Lanes, Build An iPhone Dock, $13,238.86 left in a NYC taxi, My Girlfriend Candice, Bike Thief, Food Calories, etc? Those are the answer, really. It was great waiting +2 months for a new video, one with so much work and care put into it that made the wait worth it.
I think those works seem better because they were few and far between, and also developed and polished with the help of time. You can't really compare a video edited in 2-3 hours, to a video that's been edited and re-edited and color corrected and has been allowed breathing room and fresh sets of eyes to weigh in. Not all of his daily vlogs are hits, I agree, but there's a lot of awesome stuff in there, despite the rushed execution.
Laura Frances I can, and am comparing them. It's not a matter of colour correction or extremely cautious editing, if you have followed Neistat for a long enough time, you should know that the guy believes ideas and stories are what's truly important. Vlogs are vacuous and lack substance in general, his vlogs are the better of the bunch, but they are still just that, vlogs. His older movies showed clever ideas executed with a unique style that was completely his own making. But hey, if that's what he's into now, good for him. I just don't like the attitude of his fan base at the moment, and feel somewhat alienated. I just see his previous format as the superior material.
I wasn't saying you couldn't compare them if that's what you wanted to. You can obviously do whatever you want. I only meant that comparing these two things would be unfair because they're different things, undergone through different processes. It's like comparing a bird to a fish and saying the bird is better for not being able to fly, when fishes are not suppose to fly. I have followed Neistat since before the vlogs and those early videos where the hook. They're awesome and deeper and yes, better! So I agree with you there. But I guess you also do agree that his vlogs are the better of the bunch, and that's what I believe too. I'm not a huge fan of vlogs in general, but his, his i love.
It is so easy to watch videos from you and Neistat and really not see the work that went into planning, recording and editing them. I appreciate you shedding some light on the matter.
The thing that makes Casey's vlogs so special seems to be the way he subconsciously portrays the hard work that goes into his vlogs. All his viewers can tell that he's put huge levels of efforts into each video yet they don't see this work directly. This is part of the beauty of his vlogs and the reason he's been able to create a new, special format of vlogs other creators can only dream of.
I kinda pity the kind of people who wouldn't watch Casey's videos until they were intellectually legitimised… I was watching his for about a year before the nerdwriter started and love them both.
Thought the same and was pretty curious about it. Because there is not much to "expose" him for. He does his videos they are pretty good he works hard on them he is not a bad person and does not try to create any drama with anyone, the only thing that you might not like about him is some of his opinions on stuff, as his political video which I completely disagreed. There is not much more to say about him, he is pretty open about stuff in his videos and all.
“There’s a style within all of us… and there are literally millions of people waiting for you to find it.” Words have never felt more powerful and encouraging than the ending of this video. A call to action like that is exactly what’s needed for upcoming RUclipsrs and storytellers. Great video essay, Evan! You lit a fire under me to do better and find my own style, though I’ll stick with Casey’s until then.
Another thing Casey is great at is he understands that in time of Vines and short films people have attention spans the size of RUclips ads. He'll often cut to shot half-way though a sentence or a thought so you understand the point hes making but he doesn't say anymore than the bare minimum, sometimes even cutting words in half.
He'll cut BEFORE an entire word or even a phrase if it's obvious what he is going to say. I'm not sure if I like the technique in general, but it seems to work well for his personality.
I've been watching Casey from Day 1. Sometimes I had to stop for a few weeks to catch my breath and regroup for another "season". He (and his brother in the beginning) has filled me with intense desire to do what he's doing at that moment - fortunately (or now unfortunately) I never could because I don't have the energy, the madness or, now, the ability to even come close to what he's done. Age (85) and health preclude all of that, but I'll keep watching him. And I'll be watching you. I think what you've done is a really fitting tribute to this madly creative force that's Casey - well done!
I'm trying to recollect your name as I remember seeing you on an interview. This piece of content is a breath of fresh air. Hugely inspiring and calm. Among the controversies and politically biased campaigns, it's great to see something like this again (rewatching some of your vids). Hugely appreciated, keep going pls.
am I the only one who's really getting a thrill out of this? I love this! I love the attention to detail and the understanding of meaning behind everything. It's amazing!
You opened my eyes to a great person, but I get a feeling that following Casey's RUclips channel would constantly remind me how few things I get accomplished, so I'll probably pass.
I would subscribe to him a week if I were you. If you aren't into his content by seven episodes, he's not for you. I was sketchy on him at first when I noticed him on my feed. Now, when I miss episodes I actually take the time to backtrack and pick back up on his life.
Alright, I did give it a go, watching Casey for a week, and... it's not for me. I like him, I appreciate the work that goes into his videos, some of the shots where really bordering on being extraordinarily beaufitul. I also don't feel inadequate or somesuch. I need to stop watching because it takes too much time, and is not enough intellectual stimulation. It's a bit like watching a real life soap opera. That's just my two cents, anyway.
+Craparella Smørrebrød Exactly, its like watching a tvseries about some great guy doing cool things. Yeah, thats nice to watch when you are bored but thats not the real life. And while the actor on the series is paid to do those things you are just wasting your time watching him.
Smart and savvy video essay! We’re two people perhaps too late to the game, but every now and then we run across a creator who changes the way we approach our fumbling efforts. You are one of those creators. Thank you for sharing your gift.
Not only did he influence my hairstyle, but also I came upon him in a pretty rough time of life and I learned to try and look for all those moments in a day where we can be creative and share something with others. It was pretty rad. Well said Nerdwriter (subbed)
Awesome! that's why Casey is for me one of the few vloggers worth watching. Everyday a new vlog but with massive editing work and a solid production value And since this worked so well last time and people seemed to like our work. We make similar video essays to the nerdwriter. We could use feedback so feel free to check us out (sorry for the shameless plug).
You're the Casey Neistat of video essays! The illusion you construct is that you are having one cohesive thought, and that the clips you use to illustrate that thought were the first ones that came to mind. The reality? (i assume) You spend hours writing a script You spend hours trying to get that perfect unbroken spoken line You spend hours watching footage to get the perfect clips
Just came over from Casey’s latest and my goodness, I can’t believe I have never seen your work. You’re an amazing story teller and am looking forward to catching up by watching all of your work, both past and future.
Great documentary. I love the genre of daily vlogging and I'm happy to be a part of this way of showing history unfold. Years from now, I can see people looking at these vlogs as historical documents
His vlogs are strikingly beautiful, entertaining, interesting (Casey is telling his story - it's basically a documentary memoir), inspiring, masterfully edited, and philosophical.
I get your point but it's the same thing with sitcoms like Friends, it's just regular people living their normal lifes and maybe something happens once in a while. However Friends do have an interesting story to follow but nonetheless it's still just a show following regular people around living their lifes.
equally thrilled and motivated by his videos. As a filmmaker I'm constantly baffled by his insert shots and how long it must take to set up the drone and not only walk into shot but often drive into shot and... baffling and inspiring all at once. Very cool. And I would also echo those who pointed out how well you articulated what was in our heads regarding his work. Thanks as ever!
Thank you for these links, great music. When I saw them I immediately went through your past videos to see if you'd always been doing it. Hope you continue to do it in the future.
They honestly aren't that clickbait... They are more "fun" the titles relate to something within the video but not heavily. Personally RomanAtWoods titles are more clickbait. The amount of times his thumbnails/titles include his girlfriend being sexual, crying or anything emotional is insane. He is overrated af
Actually his entire videos are clickbait. Repetitive and after a while they are all the same basic script just different location. Same style of cut. Put some trendy music and what not.
I hate actual clickbait, especially thumbnails of scenes that don't really appear in the video. That kinda crap deserves a thumbs down >:/ Casey doesn't do that though. His titles and thumbnails are relevant to the video's content.
I have found myself watching this video like every 3 months. It's a video about a creative person working at the top of his craft made by an creative working at the top of his craft. Very inspiring stuff.
I think they are real, but just a "slice", just what he wants you too see. There's neve anything intimate in there or anything about his work outside of RUclips, but the things that we actually see I believe is "real" :)
They are. You've had moments of either mundaneity/boredom or excitement, haven't you? Same shit. Only delivered through a camera (or cameras for Casey, at least).
"Neistat's revolutionary move is bringing a decade of videographic experience to a subgenre that prizes amateur craft." And yours, Nerdwriter, is managing to wonderfully articulate something that otherwise couldn't have been put easily into words. Excellent video, as always.
You need more subs man
You and Nerdwritter should absolutely do a video together........just sayin
My three favorite RUclipsrs, Casey, exurb1a, and Nerdwriter. :)
yes
How is it that my favorite RUclipsrs are all here in this video and comments section? I must have died and gone to heaven.
CASEY NEISTAT: WHAT YOU DON'T SEE???? His fucking eyes.
He doesnt have nice eyes anyways to be honest. His eyes always tell the story of a man who gets little sleep but it looks more like he had just seen a man die in his arms as he stole his last breath from a gentle kiss.
lmao
Theres a vlog on that!
He explains it several times. It's so that he can watch the camera monitor, to check framing and composition etc, without looking distracted. It's also now become his trademark / look now. Part of the brand.
Just to make it clear, I know why he wears glasses & watch him regularly. This is just a joke in case anyone doesn't know what humour is.

I actually did the same thing... 😂

I couldn’t finish even one. I don’t know, not my thing.

Yes yes yes this so amazing

How the hell did I find you here
AGH! This video made me so excited because while I was watching you talk about what makes Casey special, I also started thinking about what makes /this/ channel so special and how much work goes into making Nerdwriter videos seem effortless.
I agree 100%
hows this channel special when he dont have to leave his chair.
lol whut?
Hes just commenting over material thats already made by other people, i dont see hows thats speacial thats all.
+i grand U think this video took him a couple hours? To think up, to make and then edit u must be cray cray. He also works hard
That's the biggest part that makes him stand beyond his imitators is his work ethic, and I'm glad you mentioned that. The guy barely gets a minute to himself. His life is a constant rush and to be honest, as much as I value my own work ethic, I wouldn't like to have the brutality of his.

Gary Vaynerchuck is the same way

This deserves more likes

Interesting... and true, at least from what I saw.
This includes literally kids who are toddlers. It seems that Casey works for everyone :D
He has a cross-age appeal :D
how do you know?

His content is still great.
It's still all online, just watch.
Casey started vlogging again!

Casey is a master, redefining the genre and shaping what online video will become. I see what he does, I'm just not talented enough to reproduce it.
love your videos man. Good luck with the camera tripod
nice second bait acount, you have good content, you don't need to do this
Lol you're doing something right with that many subscribers.

His dedication to the vlogs and his job is great.
thank you Ben Harris
Ben Harris How much goes into it?
***** How long does it take to get toasted? 420 seconds?
I don't know how he produces 1 video per day
So much work has to be put into it: filming with drones, setting up cameras and then waiting for time-lapse shots, doing his work, editing all that... etc
Man I respect him
This video has been recommended to me so many times I decided to click on it. I am pleasantly surprised! I thought this was going to be some click-bait "exposed" video.
Same^^
+Kyle Reynolds lol
Saaaaaame I swear that's probably most people
Yeah brother same :)))
I was hoping it was exactly that.
Great analysis. So much to think about.
If i press the like button you would have 1 k likes
Here ya go
I was watching ads on the Toys R Us site, and realizing why unboxing and review videos are so demanded. Commercials are terrible and only show what the company wants you to see, in the most painfully scripted way possible. Like the people failing, in As Seen On TV ads.
+
Point well well spoken.
Watching this before it goes viral af.
I hope so!
I concur
Marcos!! Haha
Erik! The internet's a small place.
When I read this title, I thought you were gonna expose his "bad side" or something like that
Anthony same
lol Same
@Tigress Faberge everyone's got a bad side
This is Nerdwriter... That is not his thing.
Love you fam
Hi!
Yo lahwf a reply would be dope
Keep it to yourself Andrew...
love you, dad
Who else thought this was gonna be a hate video calling him a liar and harsh and stuff like that?
Clickbait titles...
I was kind of expecting something like that. This was a nice surprise.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking it was gonna be a hate video, haha.
me.....lol
Wow. Thanks for teaching me something. Well done!
Love your channel Dan & Lincoln! Keep rockin' :)
BUT EVERYONE SADLY HATES LINCOLN! :(
Lincoln can go fuck himself
+HowToGuide I laughed way to hard, sorry
same
5:54: “There’s a style in all of us and there are literally millions of people waiting for you to find it”
Excellent study, Evan.
I've always felt his regular parking lot is a recurring character too.
This girl has an army of invisible up-voters following her every comments.
Nice catch, Ami.

The boosted board/Drones/DSLR's are too! :D
ohhh.. and the healthy drinks :)
OMG! One of my absolute favorite RUclipsrs just made a video about one of my other absolute favorite RUclipsr
I know right! Coolest thing ever
Casey is the reason why I'm leaving the film industry to become a youtuber... He will revolutionize the industry
he already did in parts, so shouldn't it be your objective to revolutionize the film industry with what you picked up friom him ? ;)
+Ryan Champ +Shpider Man
I love your videos!! so innovative and beautifully shot!
Thanks Sarah! It makes me so happy to hear that! +Sarah Manyoki
Great work! Subbed! Looking forward to more content!
If you scroll down in the comments, casey has replied to this video. ;)
Really what did he say?
+SuperBmaster100 look for the comment its just 3 days old, scroll down in the comments, it's pretty long. :)
Stefan Modigh Ahh, I never ever have to load more comments, so when I scrolled down before I would of never seen it lol.
+Stefan Modigh I can't find it
watching this video of casey's video is like watching a casey's video
caseyception
caception
Such a respectful, non-hostile analysis. This is amazingly done
It's interesting to see how 'influenced' his style is by Tom Sachs, who he and his brother interned with.
His brother Van Neistat directed Sachs' latest movie project.
Yeah, not taking away from the fact these brothers are talented, just noticing the similar studio set-ups and gizmo's and style.
Mutualist I'd never heard of Sachs until now. Looked him up. Yep, a lot of similarities aesthetically.
I think it's Van who does those videos not Sach.
Mutualist u mean Van
There are so many little nuances in everything he does. This is a great video to shine some light into how truly hard Casey works every single day, on top of running Beme.
+
Prajay Basu introvert and extrovert are mentalities. Just be yourself in public and get out the comfort zone. Practice makes perfect.
+yodaddy. It isn't always that easy, but I appreciate your encouragement :)
Fantastic video.

Almost all of the other videos I have seen "about" Casey were just people trying to grab views with his name. Yours was a work of art.
Amazing analysis!!! Do one on Filthy Frank sometime. I'm sure there's a genius to him somewhere. There's got to be.
yeah frank is all about layers of irony and subversion of expectation
Hahahah yes
NNNYYYYYYEEEEESS
That's a really good idea!
YES
Thought click-bait, but came out with GOLD. Thanks man
why did i cry when i watched this? was it fate? was it love? was it troll?
Ha thats awesome
Holy crap. This was so beautiful. You articulate things so masterfully! I particularly loved what you said at the end "there is a style within all of us and there are literally millions of people waiting for you to find it." I mean....wow, I felt that in my bones.
Pre-vlog Neistat work was miles ahead of his current material. Sadly, to get from 40k to 3mil, you have to dumb it down.
BEAUTIFUL
Prediction: Casey's videos will now see a bump in viewers because they appear to have been intellectually legitimised.
Well Casey has like 5x more subs than Evans. If anything the nerd writer will get a bump in views, not Casey
I kinda pity the kind of people who wouldn't watch Casey's videos until they were intellectually legitimised… I was watching his for about a year before the nerdwriter started and love them both.
+Nick Cooper For sure there'll be some serious audience overlap for both.
Yup, more like it. Well deserved :)
yup
really enjoyed this vid ... Subbed :-)
The Crude Brothers??!? whaaat hahah Heyy!!!!!!
Oh wait ik u guys huge fan
The Crude Brothers I
I thought this was a Casey niestat exposed lol
same at first lmaooo
same lol
Thought the same and was pretty curious about it. Because there is not much to "expose" him for. He does his videos they are pretty good he works hard on them he is not a bad person and does not try to create any drama with anyone, the only thing that you might not like about him is some of his opinions on stuff, as his political video which I completely disagreed.
There is not much more to say about him, he is pretty open about stuff in his videos and all.
i knew this would be top comment
Daniel Edwards I thought so too
“There’s a style within all of us… and there are literally millions of people waiting for you to find it.”
Words have never felt more powerful and encouraging than the ending of this video.
Examples?
I also notice this!
It's different than just jump cuts.
Yes. This is a consequence.
+Powerbang Gaming word.
Nerdwriter is one of the best channels on youtube for sure.
Well done! Really inspirational vid right here. Makes me want to jump out and up my game up with them vids.
Smart and savvy video essay! We’re two people perhaps too late to the game, but every now and then we run across a creator who changes the way we approach our fumbling efforts. You are one of those creators. Thank you for sharing your gift.
Authenticity is what people crave. His work ethic is a by-product of his passion. Combine that with a talent and you win.
I enjoy neistat and I enjoyed this video, thanks for posting.
A video from one of my favorite RUclipsrs about one of my favorite RUclipsrs!
Not only did he influence my hairstyle, but also I came upon him in a pretty rough time of life and I learned to try and look for all those moments in a day where we can be creative and share something with others. It was pretty rad. Well said Nerdwriter (subbed)
He really puts in a lot of work.
Awesome! that's why Casey is for me one of the few vloggers worth watching. Everyday a new vlog but with massive editing work and a solid production value
And since this worked so well last time and people seemed to like our work. We make similar video essays to the nerdwriter. We could use feedback so feel free to check us out (sorry for the shameless plug).
Agreed
Casey and Louis is it for me.
If you like Casey you should check out Jon Olsson to, it's not as creative camerawork but good enough to be enjoyed!
I like a lot what Casey does, but damn if I hate his clickbait titles.
he doesn't really click bait, I mean that's what i think
This video on Neistat is in itself a masterpiece. Thank you for sharing.
Nice and calm voice, I like that, and the topic is good too!
not
not anymore
* cries in a corner *
?? Dont waste your time with random criticism like that.
I'm pretty sure theyre talking about how casey ended his vlogs lmao
This channel is the like the brother to the *Every Frame A Painting* channel
yep
CASEY NEISTAT: WHAT YOU DON'T SEE..........Lmao his eyes?
You're the Casey Neistat of video essays!
The illusion you construct is that you are having one cohesive thought, and that the clips you use to illustrate that thought were the first ones that came to mind.
The reality? (i assume)
You spend hours writing a script
You spend hours trying to get that perfect unbroken spoken line
You spend hours watching footage to get the perfect clips
Just came over from Casey’s latest and my goodness, I can’t believe I have never seen your work. You’re an amazing story teller and am looking forward to catching up by watching all of your work, both past and future.
Great documentary. I love the genre of daily vlogging and I'm happy to be a part of this way of showing history unfold. Years from now, I can see people looking at these vlogs as historical documents
The only problem would be there would be just too much of them to skim through. Don't you think?
Showing how the cavemen lived
OMG, why is your voice so soothing? In a good way...
This is actually a really amazing analysis.. also your voice is so smooth lol
The snowboarding in new York was just perfect. His years of experience, training and knowledge just keep him at the top of vlogging on youtube
neistat should make movies. his filming style has a unique feel from the few vids ive seen
I'm watching this because I've tried so hard to like Casey's videos and can't get into them
Same... Though I understand why his fans enjoy it.
This video is magnificent :) x
Hey didn't expect to see you here
Manus I featured Nerdwriter in a favourites video before, one of my fave RUclips channels :) x
+Melanie Murphy Yeah defiantly one of the best channels out there. Also I'd like to thank you for helping me realize I'm bi :D
Manus aw, I'm so glad I was of some use haha! RUclips hugs
+Melanie Murphy Thank you!
"there's a style within all of us and there are literally millions of people waiting for you to find it." love that!
Papa Franku next!!!
+
+Mistermaarten150 yeh...no
lmao guys i was kidding hahaha but what if
RUclips does feel kinda empty without Casey's daily vlogs.
So true dude!!
truee
I just discovered this channel, bingewatching all the videos!
literally what you said is why i love casey, he's so clever the way his products are so smooth but the way he creates is so complicated
I don't get the appeal of Casey... what exactly is fun about watching someone else live their life? Why not, I don't know... go live yours?
His vlogs are strikingly beautiful, entertaining, interesting (Casey is telling his story - it's basically a documentary memoir), inspiring, masterfully edited, and philosophical.
Watching Casey's vlogs is like a TV show. Entertainment.
also they're like 8 minutes each, you won't be losing much of your day watching him
I get your point but it's the same thing with sitcoms like Friends, it's just regular people living their normal lifes and maybe something happens once in a while. However Friends do have an interesting story to follow but nonetheless it's still just a show following regular people around living their lifes.
+BeardedButtCrack Not everyone has the money to travel and the the things he does and use watching him is like being in another perspective
i loved this Video, thumbs up for the effort ...
Casey Neistat is seriously incredible. His energy and creative genius is unparalleled.
i choked up at "there's a style within all of us."
really great video :)
YOU MADE ME MISS CASEY MORE!!! nice vid bro!!! :)
Hans Andres what you mean miss ?
I think he means MR CASEY.
bakla
Casey is the best and this video is amazing
LOL !!
wow. just wow that was amazing. I'm 3 years late to this party but thoroughly appreciated this video
equally thrilled and motivated by his videos.
MUSIC IN THE DESCRIPTION!! 2 great artists -- Blue Wednesday soundcloud.com/bluewednesday and Yuki Ame: soundcloud.com/yukinoame
Please do a Q&A
and Can we know your Twitter handle ?
Check the description man....
Thank you for these links, great music. When I saw them I immediately went through your past videos to see if you'd always been doing it. Hope you continue to do it in the future.
You should check out Jon Olsson's vlogs. Closest to Neistat's quality and type of vlogging
yo man, how do you find the music you use in your video?
its really nice but cant find it man...
I love Casey but the click bate titles always drive me away
They honestly aren't that clickbait... They are more "fun" the titles relate to something within the video but not heavily. Personally RomanAtWoods titles are more clickbait. The amount of times his thumbnails/titles include his girlfriend being sexual, crying or anything emotional is insane. He is overrated af
Learn to spell then complain.
He once said that he tries to be as cklicbaity as possible. He´s kind of making fun of it
Rewatching this because Casey ended his vlog :(
Skankhunt42 sike
I have found myself watching this video like every 3 months. It's a video about a creative person working at the top of his craft made by an creative working at the top of his craft. Very inspiring stuff.
yeah. He's done with the vlogs now... :(
How are these blogs in any way a "real" slice of life?
They are a real slice of his life. His life just happens to be different than most.
How the hell are they not.
I think they are real, but just a "slice", just what he wants you too see. There's neve anything intimate in there or anything about his work outside of RUclips, but the things that we actually see I believe is "real" :)
neve*
They are. You've had moments of either mundaneity/boredom or excitement, haven't you? Same shit. Only delivered through a camera (or cameras for Casey, at least).
Sam and Niko's channel vlogs also resemble Neistat's vlogs that do take on as their own,
I'm here in 2019, not because of Neistat, but because of Nerdwriter, love the way you think, thanks for the vids
