- This video is a sort of catch all for framing tips and processes. There’s a ton of information here, if you’re née to rough framing and carpentry I guarantee you’ll pick up a few tricks. It’s centered around balloon framing a couple of interior partitions into a sloped ceiling/ rafter situation. Lots of tips, lots of background noise (sorry). Still trying to work on format and filming. I have a directional mic that should help with sound, coming soon. But we’re getting there! Frame On!

We call this "Stick Framing"
On my exteriors I use an L buck with an extra stud
So the extra stud goes on this side of the > L so the 3.5 portion sticks past an 1-1/2
This way they can still insulate if that makes sense
Just wha I do. Not knocking ya at all. I’m just not a fan of blocks on exteriors unless i absolutely must for some reason.
Please keep them coming really good stuff!
Great vid.. I like the 3/8 short for future plumbing..
on the jog you said 1 1/2 down off your plumb mark. isnt it supposed to be 3/4 inch same as you did on 2*4 wall plate ?
Awesome video! Thanks for the info
Definitely just your plain jane old platform stick framing all day everyday.
Not any balloon framing or Chicago framing at all. Not even close.
So… we’re planning to do a shed dormer on our home in Rutherford, NJ. We’re interviewing companies in the area who could put us on their schedule for October or November at the latest. Are you in the area? You seem like you really know your stuff. Can you recommend a solid roofing company, not some guy who knows how to rip shingles off and put shingles back on. Please let me know that would be great. Thanks in advance.
I’m sorry, I’m from the Michigan area. I don’t know any contractors out there in NJ. I would just recommend you ask for references before you hire anyone. A good contractor won’t be afraid to put you in touch with their last client. Best of luck!
You got your definition wrong balloon framing is using longer studs to go from the first floor to the second floor everybody in carpentry knows that
Yes I know, but it’s also used to describe framing vertically, as opposed to framing in the ground and standing up a wall. At least around Michigan. You can call it whatever you like. The point of the video was to show how to frame a wall in place.
