Hi again, Greg. I was bored so I asked Casio about the cat logo on the back. They actually answered me: Thank you for contacting Casio America. Wildcat characters are placed on many of the back covers of the standard model of the GW-9400. RANGE means "wandering" and "searching for ...". As the name suggests, RANGEMAN is named with the concept of RANGER, which wanders in the woods. In the same way, we have adopted a wildcat as a character that moves around the forest freely. By the way, this model is a G-SHOCK equipped with a triple sensor, so wildcat has three claws and whiskers. On the arm, the compass that is most used when wandering in the forest Since it is a radio-controlled watch, it is designed to show the characteristics of RANGEMAN everywhere, such as the tail that resembles a radio-controlled antenna. Thank you for choosing Casio America.
Dear Greg, I just learned and confirmed something that you (probably unintentionally) show on your brand new watch, which I own for a little over 2 weeks now as well. I had owned this Rangeman in more than 4 incarnations previously, but the news I learned is this: From 32:40 on you talk about the barometric function, and on your new watch you show the yet to be developed graph that has just started to be written. On my copy this graph remained almost as small as yours for 2 weeks! So I was tempted to send it back to Japan for an exchange. I am glad I didn't, now that I saw it on your video and triggered the continuation of the graph on my watch by just displaying it for a couple of hours instead of the day of the week. So, thanks for that! Keep it up!
Great video, mate! I had the Desert Camo Rangeman for almost 10 years, but the band snapped while I was on a fishing trip in the FL Keys, in summer 2019. I couldn't catch it before it dropped in the ocean and sunk down to a watery grave. I had no desire to buy another Rangeman until your video popped up in my feed today. That yellow looks fantastic! Amazon has the Japanese version, so order placed. Can't wait to get this bad boy. Thanks for an excellent review!
Greg, I love that you provide both the “quick review” and the in depth review. That’s great for those of us scouring RUclips for different reviews of these G-Shocks.
Muchas Gracias señor Anderson, I'm a fan of all your videos and your enthusiasm for casio and Gshock watches, I just got this model of Gshock from japan and your video on setting this up is awesome, I have the two versions of this watch you also have and I love them both, keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to you next video.
Another awesome Casio Watch video review. Always feel that I can &/or have learned a lot from your very informative videos, especially as we seem to have some similar interest, IE, Solar & MB6 features. Was similarly very tempted to get this one (although wasn't aware of the carbon fiber band thing) ended up getting the Polar bear instead. And also wanted to Thank you for explaining the Latitude and Longitude input steps. Although my numbers weren't too far off, I do like to similarly know how these things work &/or what they're for. PS. I am looking forward (if not in this video) how the display & features work in the smaller circular "eye" as you called it... The way others explain it is not understandable or too fast.
First! Great watch! I used to be deathly afraid of larger watches, especially G-Shocks, but after trying a 6900 and loving the look, I am now completely open to G-Shocks of almost any size.
That’s how they get ya! Next thing you know you’ll find yourself in the surgeon’s office being completely open to adding another arm to accommodate all the timepieces that have snuck up on you. I see where this is going.
So I’m going to get a gw9400 I have a 6 2/3 inch wrist. I don’t don’t if it’ll be to big but does it really matter and does it affect the way it fits on your wrist?
So glad to see this video pop up. I'm looking at the yellow NA version right now or the classic red. The yellow really draws me but it's 445 CDN vs 240 CDN for the red, which still looks great. Tough call!
Picked up my GW9400Y-1ER direct from Casio for £279, had been wanting one for a long time but wasn't going to pay a huge price for one of the limited editions and i wasn't taken with the inverted screen version but when I saw this I had to have it, very pleased. Doesn't have the Carbon Fibre strap but I'm not that bothered.
From a distance bigger things are easier to spot first that is why sunrise and sunset time is arranged the way it is according to my logic. It actually makes sense if You view the lower segment of the lcd as the primary display (because it has bigger numbers and is easier to read first) hence it showing sunrise, and accordingly sunset is displayed in the secondary segment above with the smaller font numbers. At least that’s the way I see it. If we read this data like a book top to bottom then it can indeed have the potential to make one feel like the developers messed up in designing this incredible watch. Those are my two cents.
I just won a GW-9400-1 (like your first one) for $172.00 ($201.00 after shipping and taxes). They call it "Military Black". The list price was $330.00. Look foreword to experiencing it.
I just bought the same one. I was going back-and-forth between that one and a frogman but I can’t justify the frogman. I don’t scuba dive However, I do hike so another rangeman for me!❤❤❤❤
Hi Greg, great introduction of the watch. Appreciate the detailed explanation. I was wondering if the digits are taller/ larger than on a 5610. Especially the main bottom display.
Hey Greg, I'm surprised you've never reviewed the La Crosse UltrAtomic clock, which uses the newer (since 2012) phase modulation signal that comes out of WWVB. As far as I know, this is the ONLY atomic clock that uses this enhanced signal. I'm using one and can verify it gets reception where other atomic clocks don't.
Hey, first time viewer here. Nice video. I actually looking/thinking about buying this watch, the plain black one 🙂 On the tag off the watch, Is that not the Barometer? And the one on the bottom left is sunrise and sunset? I agree with you about the mode showing sunrise/sunset, sunrise make more sense to have on the top screen. But maybe they feel like sunset is more important to see on the big screen.
Additionally if you are outside of one of the radio towers that send time hack signals you can download an emulator for one of those towers to your cell phone. And then just update your watch however often you want to, your watch will adjust by the city you set as your " home city ".
I’m seeing this exact watch with the black and yellow band for $315 at Amazon right now. It will ship from Japan. Shipping for this exact listing will take a few weeks.
I bought yellow version because it’s the lowest priced USA Rangeman that doesn’t shade the LCD screen in the day/month area. Huge difference in legibility!!
this was tempting but I'm waiting to see a review on the new G-SHOCK G-SQUAD GBD-H2000-2JR. If that can run in our solar with the GPS and bio sensors turned off until I want to use them I'm sold. The price is right and it looks really cool with the new display tech.
I don't understand triple sensor, you have to adjust everything? or? temperature isn't accurate because picking up your body temperature so what is point of that sensor? Thank you
Honestly, once I calibrated the barometer at my house it stays accurate. As for the altimeter, it's common to have to calibrate a barometric altimeter when the atmospheric pressure changes. My father used to calibrate the altimeter in his airplane before every flight. As for the thermometer, I don't know how you can invent a thermometer which you wear on your wrist which wouldn't be affected by body temperature. If you want to measure the air temperature in the room where you are or outside, simply take the watch off for about 3-5 minutes and see what the thermometer says.
@@GoodTimekeeper Thanks for explaining I do like your videos but this watch its worth just for look nothing else should be selling point, its just insane that you have TRIPLE SENSOR and basically doesn't work anything without you manually adjusting it , Anyhow thanks again for great videos and your replay.
Is that a counterfeit? The date field is light colored on the yellow one like the rest of the face. I've been told the real ones have the shaded date field.
Greg I know that you are into Casios but it would be great if you sometimes can test the Casio "opponents" aswell. For example it would be great if you can test the Casio clone Diesel Master Chief DZ2159 and compare it to similar Casios that you have.
I wish Casio could sell these last Rangeman for the global market and not ONLY for Japan, the carbon fiber strap is 160€ to 200€, it's half of the normal Yellow series Rangeman but looks kinda better and it's carbon fiber.
Hello! New subscriber here. Just wanted to know your opinion on skmei watches. They have a not so good reputation, being a chinese watch maker with mostly copied designs.. but they've been doing casio digital watch homages that are frankly, what people wanted for years. They do different colors and use metal materials for the body instead of resin on some of their models... And lately, they even did a casioak metalic copy.
Skmei looks decent in reality but with limited functions. You get one alarm, hourly chime, stopwatch, date, light and that's all. Basically whatever you hey on every cheap watch. The problem is that it's has 2 batteries, one for digital (mine still works after 6 years), the other one for digital. But the problem comes when you want to change it. Once you open the watch (if you're not a professional, I mean REALLY a processional) you can't put if back together. I went to a guy to change my batteries, he did but the analog it's not working anymore. The digital still works ( with at least 2 minutes behind, but hey, it's a cheap watch). It was more expensive to change the 2 batteries than to buy a new one. 😂. Overall, for the price of a toy, the watch is decent at most, the big middle button does the same thing as the right upper one (light). Although it has a Japanese mechanism (the guy I went to for the battery changed was surprised), it's still a cheap toy and you can't even compare them with a g-shock, it would be a joke. But at least looks cool enough (I got the one with blue).
@@alexgh83 not really sure what model you are talking about, but the watches are varied. I bought and opened up skmei's casioak copy and while the module is thicker, it seems to have all the features that are present in the original.
I have a few Casio atomic watches but I got a mud master GG B100 which users Bluetooth to set the time witch I find a faster way to set the watch but a word not change my atomic Casio watches
Those colors are awesome. Might be nice on the gbd200. Or I think I'd prefer the ggb100 over this one but I've not tried it on wrist and also I can't afford one.
I was concerned about a possible import fee the first time I ordered a watch directly from someone in Japan. But there was no fee. Since then I’ve ordered many watches from Japan and have never had to pay any import fees. This might be because my watches never cost more than $500 and there might be a threshold for import fees. I don know. But, again, no import fees for me getting stuff from Japan and the UK delivered to my home in Utah.
I’m not even sure what a Master of G box is supposed to look like. I guess I have a very large collection of watch packages and/or boxes that I never use after I receive a watch. I haven’t thrown those boxes away. They’re just sitting in our shed. But I always keep the watches in these display boxes, most of which hold 24 watches each.
Okay you might need to update your video. The reason you had to pay premium for the that isn't just the carbon fiber band. The newer version has the updated triple sensor version 3. Not only does it stay on longer but loads faster than previous versions along with better accuracy. This might be more important to those who hike and want a more true north compass and altimeter. I'm sure the barometer is good as well but basically your older 9400 lacks in that which why you can get it for $200.00. Still the older versions fine if you are not wanting to shell out a 100 to 200 difference in price. I prefer a plain black color scheme as opposed to bright colors.
I was not aware that this has different hardware inside. It's still officially Module 3410, just like many other versions which have been available for more than 10 years. I was under the impression that Casio will update the module number whenever something inside (like a new version of the sensor) is updated like that.
I wonder why they still use long wave for time setting when GPS has been available over twenty years. It's antiquated to enter your coordinates when my Instinct tells me where we are. Do they still only offer watch face in dark or light, or is it switchable at whim, like Instinct? Does it have several customizable faces, as does Instinct? Can it "find my phone," as does Instinct? Does it monitor heart rate, as does Instinct? Can it track and export your, run, ride, swim and other activities to your other apps that track same? As I type, my Instinct is on a sleeping elder in the next room, monitoring his heart rate on my phone.(I need a second one) Can this do that? Can it lead me somewhere? I can't imagine giving up so much compared to my Instinct, for more money. The Instinct, non solar, cost me $300 new vs $500? And, it calculates parachute jumping, in case I need to play Bond. The basic one was only $200. I don't mind giving up a lot when I wear a mechanical watch because I get a real watch in return. But to give so much up for a more expensive digi, I don't see. The Gshocks make sense in their most basic economical configurations for their rugged construction. But, the more expensive ones are as outdated as pocket watches, except for the price.
😂 this GW-9400 is available for around 200. The huge price markups apply if You must have it in a nicer colour. In that case it always happens to be a “special edition” and can easily cost up to 5 times as much. It’s marketing. Casio would be foolish not to exploit this especially since watches are primarily bought for their appearance as a fashion accessory that makes you feel good and also happens to have some useful features as a side effect. Objectively I can tell the time accurately enough without any time telling device at all, but does that mean I don’t want one?
The fact that this g-shock is “antiquated” and does none of the things You listed above is most of the appeal. If not all of it. Isn’t this what wearing wristwatches is all about? Pointless, yet surprisingly awesome. And You want one. Plus it tells the time and yada yada yada does all the things you could do on your own just by looking outside. When it comes to watches, any excuse to own one is usually good enough.
G-shock prices are even more ridiculous sometimes than luxury watches. A simple change of colors on the band sometimes marks up the watch by 100% or more for exactly the same watch..
It’s very nice but I kinda find that looks a bit too flashy for me! Why did they change the face of the watch? No more shading in that little window 😢 not a great move by Casio 🤷🏻♂️ ✌🏼😎👍🏼
It burns my ass that Casio doesn't give the yellow carbon fiber band in North America and they charge more for it than they do in Japan. Shame on you Casio!!!
Well, 39 minutes ago I would have said a Rangeman, especially in yellow was the least likely watch I would ever want, now of course it seems te one I must have...............really need to stop watching videos like this LOL. Was going to grab the GBD-200 with the orange and grey but I like the temp, compass, etc....functions so maybe one of these instead. Love my 5610
Just curious to know how much would you have spent on just watches.. 🙂 I suppose you yourself would have fed more than one families of Casio employees.. 🙂 Also, wanting to understand if it's sane to spend more than a few needed rupees on watches, myself.
The watches allow me to have a fun RUclips channel and then RUclips pays me when lots of folks watch my videos. So that certainly helps me buy a few watches now and then. But I never sell watches. Many of the more popular watch-related channels on RUclips are from guys who sell lots of watches and sell lots of other merchandise related to their channels. I don’t sell T-shirts either.
At $200 it is already overpriced. No matter the color or carbon fiber band, that logs problem is still there. For $500 you can buy a Frogman with titanium or steel case.
Casio needs to step it up in the dial and technology department. The permanent placement of the circle is a waste of space. For $300, this watch is a disappointment.
Im telling you guys, it’s a condition! This is a disease! What are we counting exactly? Time is irrelevant!! Anybody know where to find a good deal on some of the more brighter colour 9400’s?
Interesting how we "rationalize" these expensive toys.........now to feel better, go out to Walmart and get one on clearance and think how much you saved w the second purchase....... Nice watch

I think this is the best looking Rangeman yet.
I nicknamed mine Yellojacket, due to the aggressive yellow motives on the carbon fiber strap an face.
Thank you. I DON'T need to watch someone opening a package.

It's a very cool G-SHOCK!😀

That yellow with the black really makes it look interesting.

@GoodTimekeeper anything past 2021 has been updated. Anything prior does not have the updated sensor.
The gps signal dose not automatically adjusted for daylight saving time you have to set it manually
@@eddiejones.redvees mine reads correctly. We just had a change to DST and I did nothing, nor the last two years.
In that case, you're also giving up a lot more when you buy a mechanical watch. You're paying way more for something that was obsolete by the 1970s.
Interesting, mine is GW-9400Y-1ER.
G-shock prices are even more ridiculous sometimes than luxury watches.
A simple change of colors on the band sometimes marks up the watch by 100% or more for exactly the same watch..
Greg big fan of your Content love from India
It’s very nice but I kinda find that looks a bit too flashy for me! Why did they change the face of the watch? No more shading in that little window 😢 not a great move by Casio 🤷🏻♂️
✌🏼😎👍🏼
You go an buy apple watch and leave the rangeman for as.The casio is for real mens
@@dimi-88 😂 are you nuts! I love my Rangeman and my Mudmasters ✌🏼
@@sylvainster30 😂😂😂I am joking 😂😂I have 2 and today i order this yellow beauty 🧡
@@dimi-88 congrats man 👍🏼 it’s a very nice piece indeed! 🤩🤩🤩
U forgot the g-350L which is rare imo
😮Same watch.
Different colours.
Bigger prices.
Fooled into the con.😅
my arm cant tell the difference between carbon fibre and regular strap.
Best part of a new watch is the unpacking and you skipped it so for that no likes😂😂😂 great video
nice video
It burns my ass that Casio doesn't give the yellow carbon fiber band in North America and they charge more for it than they do in Japan. Shame on you Casio!!!
Well, 39 minutes ago I would have said a Rangeman, especially in yellow was the least likely watch I would ever want, now of course it seems te one I must have...............really need to stop watching videos like this LOL. Was going to grab the GBD-200 with the orange and grey but I like the temp, compass, etc....functions so maybe one of these instead. Love my 5610
😂😂😂 12:01 I find it hard to believe that Greg (who owns every Casio watch ever made) doesn't know what half of these icons mean
Just curious to know how much would you have spent on just watches.. 🙂
I suppose you yourself would have fed more than one families of Casio employees.. 🙂
Also, wanting to understand if it's sane to spend more than a few needed rupees on watches, myself.
$400 for a Rangeman 😳
Hi Greg, I enjoyed your video but you have to losen the strings of the purse a little. You only live once.
At $200 it is already overpriced. No matter the color or carbon fiber band, that logs problem is still there. For $500 you can buy a Frogman with titanium or steel case.
As a non g-shock fanatic, I love and own a dw5600 and a gab2100 and all the other g shocks look the same to me and all of them look hideous.
Casio needs to step it up in the dial and technology department. The permanent placement of the circle is a waste of space.
For $300, this watch is a disappointment.
👍✌
Im telling you guys, it’s a condition! This is a disease! What are we counting exactly? Time is irrelevant!!
Anybody know where to find a good deal on some of the more brighter colour 9400’s?
Interesting how we "rationalize" these expensive toys.........now to feel better, go out to Walmart and get one on clearance and think how much you saved w the second purchase....... Nice watch
