- Why I spent $2500 on RCV's unbreakable CV shafts. And What I had to modify to make them fit. Testing in the next video.
After 2 years old review: • RCV Ultimate CV Axles ...
Thanks for sharing. These RCV axles are a must for regular wheelers. I cannot wait to get a set for the FJ Cruiser. I have gone through a few blown CV’s.
Absolutely! My first gen tacoma ate them like it was it's job. I have an update after about 3 years on these here: ruclips.net/video/Ho2hhvnEd6w/видео.html
When you fired up your torch it almost sounded like an air raid siren fromWW2 in London.. German Stuka dive bombers.. love the video.
Living in Alaska and got to replace my Tundra half shafts. Guy put a 2 1/2 inch leveling kit on the truck and after 1 winter. It ripped the boots and now it clanks when and turn and stop.
This is the real deal
Yeah they are. We'll see how they hold up with the 5.7 swap too.
You should work for Toyota as a developer/ engineer.
Thoroughly enjoy your video. Can you make one that entails what is involved in lengthening LCA for longer travel. Any mods to UCA? How will you get it aligned?
You are like the 100th person to ask! I really need to make that video. I lengthened lowers and uppers. And I align myself. I need to make a video showing how to do all of that.
@@WHIPBASH please do I'm considering doing it,myself.
Sick
Can you do a video on how you extended your control arms?
Yes. I am planning to do that. I am getting lots of requests for it. Make sure you're subscribed. I'll make that video when I have time.
Did you weld those arms yourself?
Yes. I've been asked many times to make a video about that. smh. I'm just too busy and focused on the 3URFE swap now.
I just bought mine and started installing them 🙃. but I noticed that CVS didn't come with a dust cover on either end. are they designed to work like that you think.🤔
don't know if I should pause and try to order those dust/oil covers.
I'm not sure what you mean by dust covers. Do yours look like mine? PS if you're not watching my build - you should be. New TACUNDRA episode premiering at 7 ruclips.net/video/szT6piTRyl8/видео.html
Hey man how are those RCVs? I just put 37s on my truck and will do a shakedown run soon. See what I can break before I go to Moab. Some guys say they rather change CVs then blowout the clamshell. What has been your experience with how the clamshell holds up? Thanks in advance!!
The RCVs have not broke.. but one of them is tight as fuck ' definitely drawing power. I haven't attempted to send if back yet. But I should
Honestly the steering rack and front hubs seem to be the worst set backs of 35+ tires.
I saw that ! It is tight as hell…. Yeah I have to 👀keep a close eye on the hubs… may get a new set before Moab in December. If you haven’t blown out the front diff by now then I’m gonna feel confident this weekend at Hidden Falls will be a success. I’ll have an axle or two with me tho.
Thanks for getting back!
So, was the RCVs worth it? Or are you better off with a solid axle swap?
Considering the price of a long travel kit, coilovers and these axles - I'd assume the solid axle swap would be cheaper. Then again, if you bought a solid axle swap "kit", coilovers, etc - that would surely cost just as much or more. I guess it just depends on what you plan to do with the truck. Personally, I like the independent front suspension. I think it's the superior design, especially for a front-engine truck because the engine won't limit up travel. Therefore you can haul ass with less lift and lower center of gravity.
WHIPBASH True, look at the Ford Raptor’s ifs. RCV cv axles are a game changer for ifs, plus it’s lighter weight compared to big solid axles. High speed desert is a good application, rock crawling not so much. The ifs housing isn’t strong enough unless you change out that too.
Do they make these to fit the 89-95 trucks?
YES. They will make you anything! You can special order them to fit any inner with any outer with any length.
Any updates on these axles since the mud pit video?
Sorry I missed this comment originally. I'm still learning how to RUclips. SMH...
No problems with the axles except they do make the clicking noise when in 4WD. (if you've ever heard a stock axle that looses it's grease and starts clicking when you turn - Thats the sound) You can hear them sometimes in this video of hill-climbimg the truck: ruclips.net/video/kRANGCMSolU/видео.html
Right now the truck is completely torn down - getting a 5.7L Tundra V8 swap. Check it out: ruclips.net/p/PLU5lR_tbWf0zep_2PlB2nioosQY4ueE7T
PS - I saw the price dropped a little bit on these axles. I think I saw them for like $2099 now. Still expensive, but lifetime warranty.
There is a new update now!! I don't have the link though. Search my channel.
Is it normal for these axles to make clicking noises?
Seems like it is normal. I have heard others complain about it. And mine certainly click loud when in 4WD and turning the steering wheel. I have not broken them though. And I have put them hard to work with 37's. Currently installing a 5.7 Tundra V8 in the truck. So they are gonna get ran hard.
You hear mine loud and clear at one point in this video: ruclips.net/video/kRANGCMSolU/видео.html
@@WHIPBASH I was going to order a pair cause my TC axles are toast and im sick of rebuilding. I just don't want that clicking noise though!
@@tacotrek7341 idk bro. I should call RCV and try to get to the bottom of this shit. It would be in their best interests to fix it or at least explain why they click.
@@WHIPBASH I think im just going to buy them anyways. They are almost the same cost as rebuilding new TC axles. Keep us updated on the clicking sound. For some reason I feel like mine are going to that too.
They cost way to much even tho it’s long travel it’s bound to wear out.
Lifetime guarantee though. Ask your local junkyard for a Lifetime guarantee on any solid axle. 🤷♂️. PS - I just kicked the shit out of these axles again with 5.7L Tundra V8 swap and 37" tires - still haven't broke them.
@@WHIPBASH No issues with the long side inner axle shaft?
Those lowers are awful
How so?
