    Thank you dude this was extremely helpful. All went smooth. I ended up soldering all the connections together because those butt connectors are supposed to be easier but I got annoyed and have the experience. Also you'll need the Metra 95-2001 double din kit for an 03 - 04 S10. Works perfectly after that. If you have a parking break issue with android auto or just wanna bypass it, just solder the parking break wire from the head unit to the ground wire and you're good. No restrictions ever because it always thinks your parking break is engaged and doesn't cause any further issues. Auto swap on brightness when your headlights come on still works.

    I don't mind butt connectors if it's got the room back there for all of them.
    I didn't know Jack crap about soldering and always put off learning. After getting a solder kit for my birthday 1 year i said f it. Went downstairs and started cutting and soldering wire back together. I was confident enough after 1-2 hours I want to do it over connectors now.
    I'm still shy about re-pinning connectors though. I've watched videos but I learn way better seeing something done in person.

    Just watched your video. Alpine makes a bypass for that exact same stereo so you don’t need a toggle switch. Its like $12 online. Also question did you have to cut the dash bezel for it to fit?

    • @s10garage82

      Cool I’ll have to look into the bypass. I didn’t have to cut into the bezel because it was a 2004 so it came factory with a double din

    • @BubbaB43

      Some gm vehicles require the red wire out the back of the head unit to a 12V+ in the fuse box or another 12V source.

    How did you remove the wiring from the truck? I have the same vehicle, 2003 s10, but I felt around to see if it was removable and came to a little box. I’m kinda scared to mess around too much with it. I’m in the middle of installing my own double din stereo system, but I’m having trouble splicing the right colors.

    • @s10garage82
      @s10garage82  5 лет назад

      If you bought the wiring kit when you bought the radio then the colors should match the ones on the radio itself. If you didn't and you are hard wiring the whip that came off the radio then it would be best to look up a wiring diagram for the stock radio in the truck. If the truck had a stock radio in it the one connector on the back should unplug. If you bought the wiring harness that should then plug into the harness that's already in the truck.

      the radio needs to see a change in state of that wire for it to allow you to access the settings. I started with it just grounded all the time and it wouldn't allow me to get into anything.

    • @scottd6053
      @scottd6053 3 года назад

      I've read that alpine added the toggle feature to prevent the ground method to work. That is why he had to flip the switch 2x. Head unit is looking for on-off-on signal. Google micro bypass parking brake and get one for your manufacturer of radio, they aren't universal across all brands.
