You could sense the dislike each team had for each other. You don’t see players patting the rear ends of opposing players, they sure as hell don’t help opposing players off the turf, coaches and players just walked off the field without the customary love fest that happens these days. That was a true rivalry game.
@@sicily7220 Not to mention first team All 70's Decade Team. He and teammate Cliff Harris (until last year) are / were the only members on the first team All 70's that weren't in the Hall of Fame.
Murchison bought the Redskins team song to force Marshall to vote for his ownership of a franchise. After the nod, Murchison puts a bunch of chickens at RFK stadium. Redskins were out to injure Staubach and succeeded. That led to the Longley to Pearson TD. Redskins sent a funeral wreath to Harvey Martin's locker claiming they will bury Dallas. After the win, Harvey throws the wreath into the Redskin dressing room. Tom Landry said that George Allen's antics were good for the game, but he didn't trust him. Cowboy fans sang Happy Birthday to Theisman, after getting throttled. There are other stories where the Redskins got the last laugh. It was a great rivalry, maybe the best.
No matter what the records were back then, these two teams always beat the hell out of each other. Great football to watch. Allen's teams always had the heart, but they typically couldn't measure up to the talent of Dallas. I mean, I loved Kilmer, but he was no Staubach. When the Redskins were able to win these games, it was usually because they were ripped up into a frenzy that could not be stopped. Undefeated against the Cowboys in two NFC Championship games and that's because both were in the best stadium experience that ever existed: RFK. Great memories, never to come again.
So did Franco Harris. They both played in 173 games and both had 90 fumbles. Jim Brown had 58 fumbles in 118 games. Walter Payton 86 fumbles in 190 games. Emmit Smith 61 fumbles in 226 games.
#79 Harvey Martin is a Hall of Famer in my 👀 eyes
Record 23 sacks in a 14 game season
Mine too.
No Doubt!
Second team all decade team of the 70s. How the heck is he not in the HOF?
That season alone merits both RoH and HoF.
Harvey Martin was really good

Why Drew Pearson is not in the Hall Of Fame is beyond comprehension. I just don't get it.
Agreed. Travasity. Top 3 WR in the 70s is not in the hall.

Landry/Staubach era Cowboy greats always seem to get snubbed.
@@jerrymcgeorge4117 He's in now.
I always wondered why my mom called the kicker “Our Friend Herrera”. Now I know.

George Allen never had a losing record as an pro head coach.
The Doomsday defense in its prime.

#72 Ed Too Tall Jones should be in Hall of Fame as well...they hating on the Cowboys
What a Cowboy team that was!
I never saw a game end with three straight sacks
DOOMSDAY!!! The next year in Texas Stadium on Thanksgiving they knock out Kilmer and Joey T on back to back plays. LOL
Whats weird is that from 72 76 5 times in a row they played at Washington first then Dallas second!
Dallas was on a roll.
This was a Hard Hitting futbol, and some times they targeted the head of the ball carrier.
A good ass kickin
The lowest group of people in the history of the world destroyed the Washington redskins franchise
