I think Davey also plays epic guitar in “Love Lies Bleeding”.
I've always thought that was some of the best guitar I've ever heard
That riff in that song ranks among the all time great guitar riffs in any rock genre.
Most definitely!
saw them front row in bloomington indiana the day yellow brick came out....monumental shit...cant believe how good they were as a band...nigel....davey ..dee....incredible
very cool
That was probably Davey's crowning achievement as a guitarist IMO.
Yeah, I also liked his solo in "Meal Ticket" a lot.
Even the best ever ♥️ is funeral for a friend love it 💕💕💕⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you 😊 for enjoying my comment It comes from my heart is the truth always and forever
Anna, thanks for watching. Yes, the beginning of GBYBR is awesome...John
Love all Davey's guitar.
Elton John was my first big favorite in the pop/rock world, so Davey became a huge influence on my guitar playing. Probably explains my fascination of and affinity for well-arranged and well-played guitar parts!
Love Lies Bleeding and Funeral for a Friend are incredible 😬
Indeed a Great Rock and Roll Song!!
Elton and the Boys let loose!!
Davey should have got a songwriter credit on that song.
and “All The Girls Love Alice”..
Everyone has their favorites and I know rating his work can be rather subjective. For myself, his guitar work on the song, 'I've Seen that Movie Too' is profoundly moving.
That song has a cult following. I walked into a bakery in my town once, and it was on.
She said it's one of her favorite songs, and she plays it a lot. A unique mood piece.
The guitar in "The Bitch is Back" is great too. One lf my fave EJ songs.
It's the first 45 I ever bought.
not to mention that awesome riff on “All The Girls Love Alice”.
And "Meal Ticket."
You are the best I have ever heard from anyone ever keep on rocking and rolling out those guitar licks your the best ever ♥️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💕💕
Rock on!
Thank you 💕 very much keep them coming 👍👍👍😁😁😁😁🎵🎵🎶❤️❤️
Love 💕 you Davey keep it up and never give up my favorite guitarists of all time 💕♥️😁🏁👍
Thank you for all this work you do to bring us this incredible opportunity to hear interviews with our favorite rock stars!!
Never heard him speak until now. They sure featured Elton with class.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 💛
Also all the young girls love Alice.
So true.
This was the most important song in Elton's history for mass appeal and street credibility as a rocker, I think.
This was the only song played to the US troops before the Persian Gulf War began.
The planes began dropping bombs on a Saturday Night, so the commanders played this in the barracks earlier to psych people up. True. A soldier said so.
"Funeral for a Friend" another Opus
Yes, Dave Johnstone created the most epic guitar on Elton John's 'Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting'. But Pete Townsend does a most epic cover as The Who pay tribute to Elton John on the album 'Two Rooms: Celebrating the Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin'. Basically, Elton does a fantastic cover of 'Pinball Wizard', and The Who reciprocate with their excellent cover of 'Saturday Night'!
I think that Elton John worked a little bit of "I Can't Explain" into "Pinball Wizard" and The Who worked a little bit of "Take Me to the Pilot" into "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting."
One of the reasons you gotta give it up for guitarists who play with singer songwriters who play the piano is because they will not play songs in guitar friendly keys. It creates a whole different level of challenges. Not too many Elton John or Billy Joel songs are in A, D, or E.
At some EJ concerts this famous guitar riff is replaced by keyboard/synthesizer! Why would they do that??? Talk about emasculation!
Could there be a more rocky song?
We know it is a great song and all that. But guitar players want to know things like what guitar was used, amps and pedals. I guess Davey wants to keep these things to himself. I see pictures of Gibson flying V on the cover art but what pickups, sounds like single coils of some type. Does anyone know?
Do I know this guy from the 80s?
Hmm, Robert Downey Juniors brother ??
His guitar on all the young girls love Alice is pretty stellar too!
