- In this captivating woodturning video, I will wood turn a stunning hybrid epoxy resin and pine cones vase. Carefully crafted on a woodturning lathe, this high-gloss masterpiece features captivating blue and red colours. Elevate your decor with this unique blend of nature's beauty and artistic craftsmanship. Pine cones were dried out in the oven before casted in epoxy resin than to achieve high gloss finish, I used layers of epoxy resin.

That turned out to be one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen.
Thank you so much 😀
Stunning beauty capturing one of nature's fruit seeds.
Thank you so much 😀 What colours should i mix next?
This is so cool. I get suggested so many epoxy resin videos but they're all just commercialised, silly, unnecessary tools with bright colours and catchy background music. I really, really enjoyed seeing useful, beautiful art being made with no unnecessary embellishment to the video. You just need your skills and talent to make something amazing ❤
Thank you so much 😀 Much appreciated ! Also planning on getting into some non woodturning videos, what you favourite build to watch for hybrid projects?
...and equipment 👌🏻
Cracking job David
Cheers buddy 😃
David I like the colour of resin you used it mixed really well with the cones. The vases is magnificent and unique it really shines with the finish you used. Thank you for an awesome video you are great tomwatch. Amanda xx
Thank you so much Amanda 😀

Okay, so I'm sitting here trying to to figure out how I feel about what I just witnessed... I'm at a loss for words! This is the definition of true art! The colors and shapes just speak to my very soul, for some reason! It makes me feel feelings! Lol! I also love the finishing touch of adding your own cool personal production badge on the bottom! You are awesome, David! Simply awesome!🤯

Hope your hand/fingers feels better and is healing well! 🥰

Thank you so much 😀 Actually nearly there yes :) This piece was sold just shy of $1k. Hopefully I can get into art galleries soon as it is all about finding the right customers.

@@suzanneyoung6273 have you seen the one I did on this channel?
@@DavidsWoodturning A year ago you made a piece called “Drop in the Ocean”. That colour was Blue.
Could you make another one in Green, and perhaps swirls of yellow?
By the way “Drop in the Ocean” was beautiful. 😮
Amazing work

Facinating! I can't believe you can do that without gloves.
Thank you 😀 Spinning machines and gloves do go along very well :)
Hi David! I couldn't think of an appropriate word to start this post, so I'm saying WOWSIE 🎉 Such an incredibly beautiful piece of art 😍
THIS is a really stupid question, but what happens to the pine cones? Do they imbedded inside the vase by the force of spinning? The design work inside & out was some of the prettiest I've ever seen. I live in SC and go to alot of "handmade crafter events" in my city, state, as well as in TN & NC. Your craftsmanship is truly 1 of a kind 💯 Approximately how long do 1 of these pieces take from start to finish... I can't begin to guess 😊
When the video 1st started, I said outloud to myself... DANG he's got some serious equipment there, cant wait to see WHAT he makes!! Wasn't disappointed, so talented!! Have a Blessed day 🙏
Thank you so much 😀 Well the resin keeps the pine cones together. Will fill all the voids and make one solid object what then can be turned on the lathe
@DavidsWoodturning Thanks for your reply David!!! Guess not too far off, thinking the pine cones were getting imbedded into the vase through force LOL
I've collected alot of glass art over the years, yours is truly the most beautiful... Keep RESINating your skills 😉 💯 Kimmy
The gorgeous design.👍👍

Out of the woodwork
When you make things do they come out as you envision them? Do they come out better or not quite what you were hoping for? The vase is very pretty and rather Christmassy looking.
This varies from project to project. I have a great level of patience so I will work on the piece until it looks amazing but never made anything perfect in my eyes and probably never will. Sometime have no plan to a project and just go along and see how the project dictates the shape.
Well that was intriguing
But I guess the home handy man won’t be making this any time soon
Thank you 😀 This why i am here to do that 😉
Nice
Thank you 😀
Grand-tastic ! I remember a winter- vib one . Is it time for a green one ?
another stunning piece... Bravo...what other woodworking do you do... have you any samples?
Thank you 😀 I have done lamps, jewellery boxes, guitar, table etc. will be getting into some non turning projects although not sure if they will go onto a new channel or here ;)
Mate that looks banging nice work as always. One question what did you pack out the middle with? It looked like MDF when it was turned which would explain why it was wrapped in duct tape?
Thank you 😀 Yes MDF. It absorbs resin badly so best to wrap. Soon you will seen some very cool innovation as started to 3d print the inserts/spacers what is more economical than the MDF spacer
saw this from youtube's playlist, this is amazing! that honestly weird-ass guy who called this an ad and said some bad shit to you is just both wrong and dumb. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much 😀 Really did not get his rage 😂
Beautiful work! What type of wood are you placing in center before pouring the epoxy?
Thank you so much 😀 Cut some MDF circles. Great way of saving resin and time. Do you also turn?
A lovely piece. I know the Simon hope negative rake scraper but while roughing out the core you were using a long rectangular tool with a small cutter. Could you advise whose it is please?
Thank you 😀 I started off with easy wood tools carbides hollower then the other rectangular hollower was also from simon hope. What projects do you normally turn?
@@DavidsWoodturning hi, thanks for your response. Currently I mainly turn bowls with cracks filled with resin, no issue with that. I recently did a short vase and quickly worked out that I am severely limited with my current scraper options. I bought a basic set of carbides in preparation for some resin work but the length limits things. I appreciate there is a whole host of ways to spend money but currently I'd just like a little more length and stability to allow slightly deeper vases. I dug some tree roots up a couple of years back which are now dry but lack a tool that will teach more than a standard tool.
@@chrissimmoms1550 bigger you go the more robust tools you will need. Including a steady rest to reduce vibration of the piece. I don’t show the tool often but i have 1 metre long solid steel bar in 1”diameter (yes weighs a tone) with carbide cutter at the end. It is a homemade tool but doesn’t not vibrate at all for sure
@@DavidsWoodturning maybe I'll buy some stock bar and make a couple, at least it is only bright steel rather than Hss. I guess hope cutters are as good as any. Thanks for your response. Will need to make a steady rest.
@@chrissimmoms1550 yes, i am using one of the hope cutting end on the DIY bar amd works a treat.
Absolutely stunning! Did you stabilize the cones? What finish did you brush on at the end?
Thank you so much 😀 Yes i did
When you mix your resin, as well as the mica what else are you putting in? Is it acrylic paint?
Nope, those are liquid resin colouring. They create more a solid colour and mica gives the effects
@@DavidsWoodturning Where do you get them from please?
@@andy_jones_craft6203 i have not got any particular source , i shop from all over the internet
The vase turned out beautifully! I've noticed that since you moved to the new shop you rarely speak in your videos anymore. If you decided not to do voice overs anymore?

God is good
Why would you not use an inner piece that would release with the air gun the way the outside form did? Save time on boring that out and be reusable?
Impossible to find another insert that matches the inner wall parameters to give even wall thickness
very cool but 700 euros is wild. Takes skill but this piece doesn't look super labor intensive at all
Handmade and artistic pieces have a lot more behind the price tag then just labour. Appreciate your comment and feedback
Can you sell me this flowervase
Sorry this is sold now. Please check out my available items or to commission to make this vase on the website: www.davidswoodturning.co.uk
Pine-Cloisonne. Cone- Cloisonne/ my bad
It’s nice / but that is a lot of work
And not every person has the working tools that you have.

@@DavidsWoodturning I’m not surprised as you only let things get halfway through a cycle. oh thou preventer of cycles, oh trapper of organic things in inorganic matter.
@@antonyhaase918 this statement shows clearly you don’t even know how and what resin is made of. Please educate yourself before making such statements
@@DavidsWoodturning ahaha 🤣 How does it show that I don’t know what it’s made of? It’s a plastic. Epoxy resin. It’s not biodegradable or recyclable. It won’t breakdown. So you’ve trapped organic matter in a plastic, basically forever. Duh. Maybe you need to read up on what materials you’re using 👋
@@antonyhaase918 you could not be more wrong buddy 😂 hope you find google and make some research. Regardless, thanks for watching and commenting that’s all i needed from you to get paid and make more videos. See you at the next one pal 😉
Sorry, just here to click dislike and "don't recommend channel" Only because youtube even with a monthly payment feels the need to shove an entire playlist that includes your video at the top of the home page. I paid for NO ads.....i count this as an ad...
what a shame. This isn’t an ad since I don’t pay them to be there. They are highlighting artists from wood turning category to show their support and recognition. If this is how you show your support that is fine but let’s not be so proud and vocal about it, it is rather petty. Also in the world of social media commenting, disliking etc only helps that particular channel or content since it is a form of engagement from the algorithm’s point of view. So thanks for your support anyway !
