    For context, it is heavily implied in the book that Arrax, the dragon of Lucerys, was hatched from an egg from Syrax, the dragon of Rhaenyra. So during that scene on the beach, two mothers are mourning the deaths of their children

    To the stuff said in the beginning, I think the main criticism isn't that you haven't watched GoT or read the books, a lot of people haven't, that's totally fine. Why I thougt you guys, especially Hector, didn't like the show, was because you didn't really pay attention. You were confused about basic things, didn't catch obvious clues or didn't understand things that were explained in the show. It felt like you would watch the show because you know it's popular, not because you're interested, it felt like you guys didn't respect what so many of us love. Being angry or disappointed about that isn't unreasonable, you guys acting like this would be stupid or exaggerated and make jokes about us feels disrespectful.
    Obviously there were people acting like you were the devil and that's of course just dumb. Disrespecting or even insulting you is just wrong and you didn't deserve that.
    All that being said, this reaction felt very different. There are still misunderstandings about some characters of situations but whatever, that doesn't matter. This reaction felt much more respectful.

    • @superkoopatrooper4879
      @superkoopatrooper4879 28 дней назад +5

      House of the dragon was made knowing people would be watching who haven't seen game of thrones. It is a prequel after all. Furthermore, it doesn't matter which show you start with. It drops you in the center of the world like Breath of the wild and feeds you bits at a time by design. It gives a grand impression of a vast world for the new comers. Again, it happens regardless if you started with the books, GOT or HotD. Obviously they picked up on everything quick enough. Furthermore, fans of the show and books have also complained and joked about the names being similar. It's not something to really get upset over. Most people don't pick up on all the cues either. They read it in the youtube comments and just parrot it as the top comment of every react vid.

    • @Martinbumms
      @Martinbumms 28 дней назад +8

      @@superkoopatrooper4879 I agree with the first half.
      Being a reaction RUclipsr has its downsides, that's totally normal. They have to split their attention between watching and being entertaining, to me that's clear and okay.
      Getting confused because of the names is also understandable because the names are super confusing, even GRRM jokes about that, that's absolutely okay.
      Imo the guys aren't used to reacting to a show like this. Most shows are fun, quick and not as deep and heavy. HotD is none of that.
      I watch quite a few HotD reactions and most of them make jokes about the show while being respectful and paying attention, it's not impossible, the guys just decided against it, or weren't able to do it and fans pointing that out is nothing bad. They could have taken the criticism and gone on, but the way they react to it, making fun of that part of their community feels weird to me.
      I can only repeat myself, this episode felt much different, they were able to balance it out.

    • @hectorminator
      @hectorminator 26 дней назад +6

      @@Martinbumms If you feel disrespected by what we said about how people were treating us, then you're putting yourself into that category. You're kind of putting down what else we've seen, as though it's not as good as this show, and that we weren't being respectful enough to the show, or paying attention, which isn't true. Again, if you feel this way, you can not watch our reactions, you can watch other RUclipsrs, if you want. But I'm not gonna be okay with you saying we should have just "taken the criticism" when it was a lot of unwarranted insults in our comments which, like you said, was uncalled for. We decided to watch this show because we know how beloved it is, and instead of doing eight seasons, we believed this prequel show would be a good jumping on point. Maybe GoT fans can stand to take the whole thing a little less seriously. The way I hope we do with all the other stuff we watch, we know they're shows.

    • @Martinbumms
      @Martinbumms 26 дней назад +4

      @@hectorminator just to be clear, when I'm talking about criticism I really mean well-meant criticism, criticism that wants to improve something. Insults or hatred are just bullshit and not acceptable, I'm not trying to say that you should accept insults. I'm sorry if I phrased that the wrong way.
      Someone saying "you guys look bored or not interested" isn't an insult though, right?
      I really liked your reaction of s2e1, because your reactions felt sincere and interested and you still did your jokes and everything we like to see from you guys.
      I understand the "if you don't like it, watch something else" point when it comes to insulting and hating comments but not when it comes to well-meant criticism. I bet the amount of comments you get makes it difficult to differentiate though.
      I hope I did a better job at phrasing my points this time, English isn't my first language so I feel like a 13 year old idiot sometimes haha

      The explanation from Hector minimizes the choice in editing to feature the bashing of what is seen in Patreon. And, yes, people take everything too seriously. I have no negative rant in defense if GOT. I think Adam nailed it in his summation of Season 1. Layers inform wars. Random events change history. How people react to those events is what makes a narrative engaging.

    So, Helaena is what is known in Game of Thrones as being a "dragon dreamer," that is to say that she has visions and she interacts with the world differently from other people, she can't help it. (In today's parlance, she would be known as being "on the spectrum" and evidently that is the way that the actress, Phia, has been instructed to play her.)
    It would not occur to her to lie to try to save her son; "Cheese" (the ratcatcher who found her) said he will kill them ALL unless Helaena points out which of the twins is the son, and she knows he is telling the truth because she has already forseen this. She even _tried_ to tell Aegon earlier when she said she was afraid "of the rats." Of course, Aegon doesn't know what she means and since he's just 19 and wrapped up in his own concerns, he didn't press her for answers or try to get her to find a way to explain what she means. He dismissed her a LONG time ago as being crazy (which is why he didn't want to marry her) so he pays no attention to what she says.
    In fact, NOBODY pays any attention to what she says, and they never have. She told a prophecy back in season 1; when Alicent was comforting Aemond and telling her that he would claim a dragon one day, Helaena said, "He'll have to close an eye." And of course Aemond _did_ claim a dragon, basically stealing the dragon of Baela and Rhaena's dead mother, which in turn caused a fight, and during that fight Luke slashed Aemond's eye, which is now gone and must be "closed" with an eyepatch.
    Poor Helaena has been through this nightmare before, and whatever premonitions she has had about the night Blood and Cheese come to kill her children, she already knows there is nothing she can do but save her daughter and get out of there.

    I would've wanted revenge for Lucerys' death too, but Blood and Cheese was a step too far, considering the outcome of what happens. Easily the most disturbing scene from the book too.

    If you guys like House of the Dragon, I can honestly say you’ll love the original Game of Thrones series. HoTD focuses on one family while GoT has 6-7 families/houses all intertwined with each other, all with their own complex and messy backgrounds. The main story primarily focuses on the Starks which have more integrity and morals than all of the families combined, and most importantly no incest.

I love that you crack the same jokes as my group of friends when we set around and watch it together!! I love GOT and this series but that doesn’t mean I have to be so serious about it!! Got no problems with laughing. And having a good time. It’s that that’s all you show us. It’s an editing issue to me. Your only showing us in those 20 minutes for RUclips the moments your laughing or making jokes about the show. So it just seems like you aren’t taking it seriously. When obviously you are. Love watching your videos nonetheless.

      That's what the Patreon is for. We legally can't put an entire episode of an HBO show on RUclips.

    • @TheOdrinSearchParty
      @TheOdrinSearchParty 26 дней назад +4

      I don’t think anybody is suggesting that you upload the entire 60-minute uncut version onto RUclips. I think what people are maybe suggesting is that the 20 minute version you upload contains a bit more of a balance between the jokes and the more serious commentary. Kind of like what this episode did. In any case, it's your channel, and you can do what you like. Peace!

      @@hectorminator This reply doesn’t address the issue. Geez.

    • @hectorminator
      @hectorminator 26 дней назад

      @@KaiOcean no, it does. Because it’s an explanation for why there aren’t more silent moments from us, or moments where we just say “that was good.” We don’t really react that way, we clown and talk about what we’re enjoying from the story. The RUclips edits are not our entire experience watching this show and people have been ignoring that because we’re making jokes and not taking the world as seriously as they are, and it makes them mad. Which is fine. Anyone can be mad, but this is how we’re watching the show. We’re basically not holding enough reverence for the material and if people want to see the Patreon versions, they can, or watching us watch this show isn’t for them and that’s fine.

I appreciate your discussions during the episodes, especially the jokes lol The material is heavy so you need to mix things up and keep true to who you all are! Keep up the great work!

    Ngl the Fire and Blood book that covers the dance is just a historical artifact in the world planetos, it was written by a maester and a person that was there at the kings court. So no I dont recommend reading it.
    What i took away from your s1 comment section is everyone saw a disingenuous "reaction." I watch multiple GOT reactors and HotD reactors and if they did not like it I knew and they stopped, what I got from this is just a slog and I could see you guys were bored.

      I have not read the books, nor have I watched GoT, and I love this series. It's reductive to say it was just purists who had issue with HR's season 1 reactions. For me the *tone* of the them was so completely opposite to any of their others as to be distracting. I've watched them critique w/out being so cynical and biting.
      Just as it's valid to critique these movies/shows, I do think critique of online media is valid as well. Ofc, it's all in how it's presented. Most folks tune out when the delivery of the msg puts them off, even if the msg itself is spot on.

Yea for sure, but I also ain’t not whiny person that can’t deal with a different perspective. Some folks need to realize that some people hate your favorite flavor of ice cream, and that’s okay. Same goes for this. Enjoy what you enjoy, don’t yuck others yum and be cool honey bunny. The world would be a much better place.
