By asserting the practitioner's "agency" you entirely misunderstand the nature and relationship of the gods and humans, especially Hekate. The human is a vessel through which divinities manifest---to presume "control" of the divinities is pure hubris. In this particular situation, πρὸ τῆϛ γυναικὸς ἡ μήτρα γέγονεν.

Awesome to hear the stricter side of Hekate represented. I've struggled to resonate with a lot of other descriptions of her that make her so mothery and nurturing. She's not unkind, but she's not here to have her time wasted

I also do not feel her so mothering and kind. She can be protective though, but in a very fierce way. It is hard for me to descirbe her energy and how I recieve her. And I myself totally love a mothering and nuturing and warming aspect in gerneral and maybe in a deity. But with Hecate it is different. She is so fierce and goes deep into your shadows. And she really calls out all your shit and kicks you in the ass - but only to make you face your inner demons and grow stronger. She is a stern mother. As english is not my mmother tongue it is hard to describe what I mean. But I agree with your perspective on her.

I've always seen Hekate as someone who's very stalwart but fluid, neither active nor passive, but also dedicated to the idea of "fit for purpose" action. The kind of goddess who will absolutely let you walk right off a cliff if that's what you want, because she's absolutely also going to pick you up and dust you off and ask you what you learned by being such a dumbass. But also, the kind of teacher who will sit and string beans and make flower chains with you for several hours without speaking, because it's not time for working right now, and she knows what she's doing. I don't think she has a lot of attachments to any "this way" or "that way" of working with her students. Whatever her personal motives/feelings are, she's the type to get you to where you're going, because she's a professional, that's what she can stake and you can barter for. Does that make sense?

@Trinity M right. Jason who teaches the course and tells a story about the second time he encountered Hekate. She basically explained to him that most people come to her and she is like a mother to them, but he came to her as a “lover” meaning more than just devotion but an actual process of true initiation.

I love your explanation of working with Hekate because for me at least she is a strict teacher and is very much a "get up and get it done, and get it done well" Every once in a while she comes through in a slightly more guiding and gentle way, but she generally is very straight forward and blunt lol. That teacher is a great representation of her in my opinion.

Hekate can be very "chill" if you just build a relationship with Her in devotional and folk ways. She's best of the best. She's not strict. She guides. If you can do X, She'll guild you do it. If you can't, She will understand your limitations.

When you said people told you to thank hekate for your pole journey it made me think of how people thank the Christian or catholic god for everything, so much so that they discredit themselves. Like if someone overcomes an addiction they say it was the work of their god, as if they didn't fight tooth and nail to heal and grow themself. It's a weird way that people underestimate themselves or their power, like they don't think they can make a difference in their own life. That always makes me sad. It also makes no sense because you literally live every single day by being affected by other's words and actions and decisions so can't the same be said for you?

The day after my bf got me into the clinique, pushing me that i needed help, i stopped working for 3 months and really learned about self care. I dreamed of her walking with me with her torchs. She did slap me in the face showing me that i need to take care of myself to be a good mother to my kids :)

Hekate is one of my deities and with me, she's really lenient because I'm still a baby witch and even though my parents know I'm a witch, they don't really let me practice so I can only do so much in my practice and she knows that. So I can't do big rituals and huge offerings. My offerings usually include flowers and lighting candles in her honor with the occasional drawing and/or sigil. She puts me in witchy moods like once a week where I have the motivation to actually do something witchy, even if it's research. She makes me take care of myself and reminds me to do things through headaches that don't let up unless I'm focused on doing the thing she wants me to do. I agree that she's like a mother figure, but more of a mother figure that a little stern, but in a caring way. I have made a bond with her and me, she and my other deity laugh together at the stupid jokes I make. Overall she's super helpful and I'm so happy she came to me when she did.

    Yes. The course is $700.
I understand that number is daunting for many people, and I completely get why, however I really don't want to see negative comments under this video about any of that. Keep in mind that regular college classes where you get less engagement with a teacher and less time as a whole can cost the same or more.
Also keep in mind that money is about priority, and its OKAY if this isn't a priority for you right now - or ever.
A $9,000 camera wouldn't be worth it to someone who isn't into photography. $400 work of kitchen utilities & tools wouldn't be worth it to someone who doesn't love to cook. $10 for a cocktail with vodka isn't worth it for someone who likes whiskey.
I'm not trying to sell this course to you, I'm not being paid to make this video, I'm a practitioner who wanted to challenge myself and my practice and was offered an amazing trade off by someone I look up to. So instead of attacking me or Jason(which happened a lot in the comments of my last video), hopefully you can come out just my video with something helpful.

As an hekatean witch and long time subscriber of your channel I loved watching this part 2 and appreciate your honesty. It's funny that someone said that your achievement was thanks to Hekate because from my experience (and from many others hekateans) she's not the kind of deity that will do everything you want/ask. You gotta do the job yourself. Discipline and pro-activity is necessary, very Capricorn energy from Hekate. I love this about her. It's like: "I'll light your way, but it's YOUR path, let's go!". Also, the way she presented herself to you seems related to the work you did with her. She can be really different for different people and even in different moments of our lives. People that works with her as devotees tends to get to know this many sides of her in the long-term work. Thank you for this video!

    • @littlestbroccoli
      @littlestbroccoli 6 месяцев назад +1

I gotta say, describing it as Capricorn energy is very accurate. I struggle to validate for myself that I'm worthy of achieving things while that critical eye is around, if that makes sense. The critical eye shuts me down just like my mother's did, and I begin to resent my life circumstances, take a "poor me" attitude because the pressure is too much. However, I know she chose me instead of the other way around because she called me repeatedly for months. She helped me heal trauma. So she must see the potential there and wouldn't work "on" people she doesn't think have it in them. Why does it have to be so harsh, though? So hard and so damn unrelenting!! Have you found a better way to work with this energy that isn't just "have a positive attitude"? Or Be Strong!..? Sorry to ask so directly, I feel I need help. I want to keep working with her but I'm adjusting to her more Saturnian side.

It's super interesting to hear your perspective on deities and how you have perceived it with others!
For me (if anybody is interested): I am a folk based witch, with a very strong focus on herbalism. Many Plants are strongly associated with certain deities. And for me, these plants aren't "just" a correspondence, but the deity his/herself. I don't do ceremonial work, but working with these plants I interact directly with the god. When using or consuming certain plants, I can feel, how the energy runs through me, giving me the opportunity to new experiences and different perspectives. It is the energy of a deity running through me, but it is still me, doing the action, it's still me deciding what I do or how I act.

Though not about witchcraft, it did a better job in ten minutes of explaining something I've been failing to for years! She's truly and excellent teacher of her discipline -- I grew up around a lot of dancers and performers who tried to add spiritual principles to their art, and so I feel like most magic practicioners could benefit from movement work and dance training! I think this is a good video :] You went through 2 full courses of deity work and still by the end you realize 'hey this ain't for me' I think this is SOO important. A lot of people and including me my first 2 months in the occult community think they have to be very good at everything and anything especially deity work. Deity work is daunting and theres a lot of opinion over who should be doing deity work at what level ( eeehhh not talking bout that rn). But I find now theres a difference between willingness to master because it feel right vs. learning for the sake of learning something out of your comfort. Both are good! But not everyone knows what that applies to and that's when people think they're in too deep to back out. I think that's especially very good that you learned the course, learned deity work wasn't your thing, and still appreciated the time you took to learn it.

I worked with Hekate for a year, and I still say that it was like someone hit the fast-forward button on every aspect of my life - whether I wanted it or not. 😂 It forced me to learn and grow and shift into almost like a "next level" version of myself faster and with more force than I ever anticipated!

I feel like lots of people feel they have to give a deity credit for nearly every accomplishment that they do, but I feel that that in itself may stem from the way the media has drilled into our heads that a deity is what brings everything to you. That is not how I work with my deity including Hekate. There are times that they bring me blessings sure, and I make sure to give them the credit when they do but, they don't bring EVERYTHING good that happens in my life. I work for so much and when that happens it feels like things are worth wild. When I have to give that credit to a deity it rubs me the wrong way. I don't think that people understand that that's not how all deities work. In my walk, they teach me to manifest things in my own life. They teach me to walk the way that's best for me so that I CAN do for myself what I will. That is what it means to work WITH someone rather than working FOR them. But that's just my way of seeing it.
Also, sometimes people just don't bond with a deity and that's okay. It's just like making new friends. You have to put yourself out there, and hang out with the person first. Get to know them. And sometimes we find that they just don't blend with how our path works. I personally would never take a course to work with a deity. No beef with the ones that do, it's just not for me. I prefer to connect with a deity my own way rather than have someone instruct me on to do so. It...just doesn't seem like a real bond for me when I do it that way.

I work with Hecate as well. It does depend on what you need, she will act accordingly. If you need a butt kick she will give it to you, if you need a supportive hug she will give it to you. I think the experience with her is so different for each person because each person is different, respects different "behaviours" and needs different care taking.
For me Hecate is a teacher but she also takes care of me. I work with her in the learning but also healing section. She can be strict in a sense of being direct, she doesn't like bullshit. She knows when you are lying, even if you are not honest with yourself and that is why you "lie" , and she will tell you what she thinks of it.
I like working with her. Especially not just with her dark but also with her light aspect. Many don't know, at least it feels like it, that she wasn't always an underworld goddess. She used to be a protector of cities, homes and families. That is why I also like to work in the kitchen with her.

The way many of those younger practitioners talk about Hekate doing things for them has an insane number of parallels to Christianity. There's a youtuber called Ocean Keltoi (a predominantly Norse polytheist) who talks about this using a term called "latent Christianity," which is basically people copy-pasting Christian-based faith habits and practices (often in a harmful way, though not always) into their own practices.

    • @river8783

Christianity has caused a lot of harm to pagans all throughout history, so I'm not sure why it's confusing that some pagans don't want anything to do with it. The pagan practices we still have from Christianity were blended into it as a survival technique, as the goal of Christianity was to eradict paganism. All we're doing here is looking Christianity in an academic way and unpacking all of the unconscious biases and influences it has bestowed on us as we move towards a more pagan worldview. You and others can feel free to do whatever you want when it comes to blending christianity into your own practice. But Christianity and paganism are different and identifying those differences is important, especially if you grew up christian.

Its so great hearing your thoughts, and cross referencing mine. I think as with all relationships, deities form their own kinds of connections with us based also on what they have grown to understand about us.
I come from a traumatic background of every abuse there was, and Hekate has been ultra respectful of that.
She knows my trauma is heavily founded on an upbringing of shame and punity and therefore offers me almost a sense of immunity from that experience with her tough love approach.
I guess becos that approach would be extremely counter productive in my circumstances.
Having said that, shes not what i would call warm in her approach either. She'll remain at a distance and doesnt comfort me but, she will lead me to other deities that do have that warmth when i need it.
If i ghost her while im going through stuff she doesnt get offended. She just knows that my cptsd is an issue to maintaining healthy intimacy, connection and commitment.
She'll reconnect with me again when im ready, and help me to uncover the blocks that came up that contributed to me shutting down.
She seems to have patience in spades for those who have genuine blocks to connection.
And require a gentler slower pace.

On the relationship betwixt Hekate's "baby witches" vs the student/teacher relationship: It has been my personal findings that a label is VERY important when working with Hecate/Hekate. If she's chosen to be your matron, then your relationship with her will naturally be different from the witch whose working with her for ceremonial aid or to simply learn what she can teach you.

I've seen both sides in my walk with her, I've seen her show compassion and empathy, I've also seen her show little remorse for things she knows that i can do but am avoiding because i am just lazy and don't want to.

I enjoy deity work, have resisted it for a long time, but Hekate is a wonderful deity and I rather vibe with her on deep spiritual level, love this video and hearing the experiences of others working with Hekate, I think since she is the 3 in 1 that might explain why she has different sides, the mother side is probably the loving and nurturing side, the crone may be the stricter teacher side and then the maiden side would probably be the more supporting sister side of her, just a thought, but I also find in working with her that her demeanor changes based on your own actions and what you need and also if you are worthy or not of the requests you ask, so I agree on the part in the video that pointed out to you putting in half the work yourself and asking for help from Hekate rather than all going onto one, I give praise to her but also acknowledge my own hard work. 😉🙏🏼😊

I come from a Christian background, so when I first started getting into witchcraft I meant it in a very secular way - the religious trauma really stuck with me huh. However, a friend of mine (who's also a witch) suggested me to reach out to Hestia and now I gratefully work with her sometimes. I really agree with what you said about the things you do and the things a deity can help you with. While growing up in Church I've always found quite irritating the "you have to thank God for everything you have/you accomplish" mentality because I think that what we achieve derives only from us. Yes, praying or asking for help to a deity might work, but only along with your efforts. I'm sure that there have been times when Hestia helped me - especially in situations that were out of my hands - but I also believe that the vast majority of what I achieved in my life is because of me.

I definitely agree I’m not just a witch but also a Hellenic polytheist so I worship Hekate, it’s not a one way street, praying to a deity in general for good favor is great but you must put in the work for that. You give credit to yourself of putting that energy into the thing you want to achieve the deity makes it more open to achieve. Definitely if someone want to thank the deity for their accomplishments a person can do that but give some recognition to themselves as well. I think Hekate definitely wants someone to recognize their own power as well and her own, to give ones confidence in their own abilities not just hers. Just how I feel, thank you for sharing this experience! 💖 not everyone is going to have the same or similar experiences and it’s great to hear other share their own different perspectives on certain topics.

It’s really awesome to hear another perspective of working with her. My experience has been a stern, but nurturing mother figure. I do think she appears to those who work with her how they need her to.

I’m a lot younger so Hecate really eases me into things with witchcraft and in that way is sort of nurturing but I know if I’m one day late with an offering or done something stupid she’s going to be there pissed. She’s very motherly at the moment but I have a feeling that our relationship is going to shift from this motherly energy once I have a greater understanding of witchcraft and matured more

I know I'm late, but I just started working with her and I feel like she's both motherly and stern. The word that comes to mind is regal. She cares in a motherly way but she is regal and firm.... Like a strict teacher who does something kind in a secretive manner.

I love this. Hekate is always with me, but She doesn't do things for me. I'm expected to find my own way into, or out of, situations. She's a guide. A teacher. Very motherly for me, but doesn't coddle.

Really love that you have made these videos about your experience of Hekate.
I agree with your statement that she is neither warm, nor motherly... in my personal experience with her as a guide, she is very cooly detached. She allows me to make my own choices, she just presents me with the possibilities and shines a light on what I might overlook.
I did not consciously call upon Hekate, rather she has been with me through the shit storm of my awakening process. She is the first guide to turn up always when i'm lost. Though i've never found her demanding. I think maybe becos I seem to be very aware of my own deceptions these days, and willing to work my way out of them without her firm hand.
When I choose a direction i'm willing to move in, she is very active with connecting me to the people, places and resources that I will need. Other than that, if im indecisive, she just waits at the cross road until I finally get bored of being there.
She does lead me on to other deities if I get too stuck. Last Spring she introduced me to Persephone, who taught me a lot about offering myself mercy for all the wrong I perceived I had done. That was what had been keeping me stuck for a long time, and I guess, mercy and compassion weren't really Hekate's particular strength.
You are also correct to own what you have accomplished. Hekate doesnt do the work, she encourages us to do it. She definitely will not put me on her back and carry me over the line- she will repeatedly tell me that's my job. Her refusal to do the work for me is what has empowered me, and taught me that I can do what I often times think I can not. This is the beauty of her.
Thank you for posting these videos, I will definitely check out Jason's books!

I worked with her for a few months too and it was wonderful. I had the biggest fear about ever getting a job, earning money and everything that has to with it that I kept getting panic attacks whenever someone just tried to talk about it. But because I graduated this year I had to become able to work in a job. And I have to say I wouldn't have made that without Hekate's help. Within 3 months everything changed and I was able to work at my first job 2 weeks ago. And ofcourse she didn't do this alone we did it together! I am so happy she is gone now because that means we reached the goal we had together ❤

I love hearing about the difference between your experiences with her vs others. According to Cyndi Brannen (a teacher and mentor of her own hekatean group) she writes how hekate is a very contemporary goddess. Hence why she has over hundreds of epithets (titles) that sometimes contradict each other. This can be shown both historically through her many epithets as well as today with many of her devotees different perceptions of her. Personally I’ve experienced both of her main aspects of motherly and stern. I’ve noticed when it’s very informal or personal on my personal experience she’s very motherly and light hearted, but if I have work to do or if I need something done she is definitely *not* gonna be in the mood to just stand around and play games with me. A very “get it right or don’t call me.” Attitude. As a devotee myself I’m so thrilled that you got to personally experience her!! ❤️❤️ also, love the makeup by the way!

You wouldn't want to do Kundalini Yoga classes. If you miss a day, you have to start all over. I had to do this for my Yoga Teacher's Training and I realized that I do not care for Kundalini Yoga.
    Your info was very meaningful.

i find that dieties often speak in a way the practitioner will most benefit from, if they do well with tough love or another way. and many triple goddesses show a dif side of them based on what is needed at that time

they have different energies they can arrive with , this is why people have some confusion about triple goddesses being separate or one being because its such a huge shift in energy i feel like that's why they are given different names for the 3 different aspects to better direct what energy you are calling upon . however as a conscious energy it can shift and choose what form it arrives in based on whats needed.

i really appreciate the honesty. i feel like some people feel the need to give everything to deities when sometimes it may actually be YOU and some people get offended by that. Also to say that yall don't click, i love it because that's also a thing i notice , people feel as if you have to put on a performance of being so connected to deities like her instead of being honest about their experiences.
