I purchased the epic mx in 2010 for the exact same reasons you describe in your video. It took me 3 years to make my money back for various reasons (clientele didn’t want r3d files at the time, market saturation thus lower rental prices) but I learned so much by using that camera. Cheers!
I'm not a "RED" guy (mostly because of $$$), but I love the simple and direct way you speak to the camera fwiw I have a Canon C70 and I feel like its an amazing value at $5k
Hey I appreciate you saying that! I love the C70 honestly. Really amazing camera, internal nd, good stabilization, canon raw. I would trade in my sony for the c70 if it wasn’t such a hassle to switch all the lenses as well.
Same buddy, I switched a7iii to bmcc4k, and now i am sure i am not shooting ithout a reason like i did with sony. Now have to think about shots, composition and really good on manual focus and so on.
great idea! I was actually thinking about this concept since that movie The Creator was apparently shot on the FX3 (which is the same camera as the a7siii) the raptor and the a7siii are so different but there's strengths and weaknesses to both in comparison that's for sure.
Does anyone, can anyone recommend a rucksack for the V-Raptor? Body, 2 Lenses med size, Monitor, Top and side handle and cage (broken down ), two batteries and charger. For plane carry on.
I think it depends on the production. I know Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 used the V-raptor and the Komodo for different shots. if the end use is just social/web I don't think the 6k or 8k matters, but if for your shoot you want super slow mo then of course that's where the Komodo is weaker. but if your shoot is gimbal and movement focused, then you might not want to deal with a heavier and bigger setup like the v-raptor.
that's a good question, it's the 'briefcase handle' accessory for the rs3 pro and then there's a quick release threaded monitor mount from small rig that attaches to it. the monitor is the one that comes with the v-raptor, the 5inch small hd touch screen
Hi, I hope this message finds you well. I have a question regarding the RED RAPTOR camera. Is it possible to use the RED RAPTOR camera for capturing photos during a drone scanning mission? Looking forward to your response. Best regards,
I actually looked into it when it first came out, i’m a huge fan of dji. it’s a really good camera and a lot of value for the price, and it’s convenient that it’s also a gimbal. I think the only drawback for me was having to use dji’s lenses or small primes to get the most out of it. It’s a unique camera, but it’s like anything else in the sense that if you put enough time into it and understanding its nuances you’ll make awesome videos with it. I think ultimately choosing the right camera comes down to what kind of work you do, how you operate and choosing a setup that you enjoy using.
@@coryinsights As an owner of a Ronin 4D for 8 months...I agree about the limitations but I found that I own probably every E-mount prime G-master lens and they all work/balance without issues. Even the heavier 135 1.8 (while not perfect..motors take care of the rest)... I realized the benefits, intuitiveness and overall accuracy in a cinema camera coming from a long time sony user were beneficial to me. I too wanted to challenge myself and up the overall production. I truly want the rest of the world to take a chance on this camera as it's not as bad as I initially expected it to be as well as many other people have. I look forward to seeing the next iteration considering how much they nailed this on their first cinema camera. I love that all these companies yield such strong competition and push the technology forward. Digging a bit on the raptor as well. Are you using any cine lenses or mainly RF and cine lenses for rental/larger productions only?
@@DominicCarterTV that's really interesting to hear that you can fit so many lenses on it. the lidar is another benefit of the 4d, I'll probably get the lidar focus system to use cine lenses on the v-raptor while solo at some point but for now I mainly use the rf lenses because they're actually great lenses and while the auto focus on the v-raptor is nothing compared to the Sony, it still works, especially when on a gimbal. manual focus on a gimbal is pretty difficult. I can see myself renting a nice anamorphic lens and make a video about it in the future.
The biggest difference for me on the Komodo and the V-Raptor is basically the higher frame rate slow-mo options and resolution. The sacrifice is the form factor, it's a bigger camera. Only you can know if it works for your business!
Hey thanks for your comment, it’s funny I had a lot of this in the video but I edited it down to make it shorter. So I’m using the RF 24-70 and I’ve also used some cine lenses here and there but I like the RF line so I can use the auto focus, which is pretty crucial on the gimbal. as for the autfo focus it’s not like the sony where you can use it for everything but it works okay on the gimbal where you dont have much of an option without it. the vignetting is just something that happens with large format sensors and it can be easily fixed with color correction if desired, but i dont mind it. nds i go back and forth between polar pro and tiffen variable nds. happy holidays to you as well my friend.
@@coryinsights hey CORY HAPPY NEW YEAR I was wondering this RF 24-70 f2.8 IS on the RED V-Raptor : does IS work? does iris ring work? so we can change iris on the fly instead than going on menus How is Manual Focus? (i know its focus by wire vs the EF version) Thank You 🙏
@@lucariccidj The IS totally works for the micro jitters because the camera sensor has zero stabilization. the rings work great for iris and manual focus I haven't had any problems. It's a great lens. I have many of the G master lenses from Sony for my a7siii and it's similar quality.
@@coryinsights once again thank you 🙏🏻 have you noticed when manual focusing ring become hard and difficult ton adjust for critical focus ? You should make a review for this Rf lenses on raptor that you own because lot of us is looking on this possible combo 🤗
Serious question; will using a red v raptor in comparison to the Nikon z9 improve the image quality in the same lighting conditions? In the Nikon z9 I shoot 8k raw. Was wondering if the v raptor will outperform in terms of image quality since both can shoot 8k raw. I don’t care so much about the higher Frame rate in the raptor.
the short answer is yes the image quality is better, but it just depends on what kind of work you do. if you deliver finished videos to the end client and they don't necessarily care which camera you use, then the added image quality isn't worth the drawbacks. the z9 is a great camera.
depends if you have a crew, i have both, the z9 is amazing for eye tracking / gimbal work and on a motorised slider / ease of use and quick boot up time when you cant control everything. the 12 bit raw looks amazing on the z9 but the 16bit out of the raptor has better colorthat i can see with my eye and i prefer the noise grain structure and codec of the raptor but also makes it kinda a pain to rig up and use if working on shoots with smaller budgets as the z9 can use smaller gimbals smaller tripods smaller sliders exct hope that helps~
definitely agree with you as I purchased the raptor anyway lol. Pain in the ass to work with when you're alone. And I agree that everything is smaller set up with the z9 so its MUCH easier to handle and work with.@@DreamingOfReality
Nice one. Footage looks great especailly at 1:39.

That’s reassuring, thank you for sharing! I’m happy to hear you made the money back, i know the personal growth is hard to put a price on.
Smart and honest. Basically grabbed a Komodo for the same reason. Dope content looking forward to more!
Hey thanks! Glad to hear that
good video, thanks for sharing - enjoyed watching your comments and your work with the Red
Awesome, thank you!
I love my V Raptor, Great Video
Same, and thank you!
Very practical points, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This video needs the music to be another 48db louder to really drown out the voice instead of only half drowning it out.

My dream camera 😢🎥 R3D is amazing, I been rocking a RED Raven 4.5k for yearss lol it still holds it down but my do it all camera is my canon C70.
