  • When curbside recycling was introduced in the 1970s, we thought that recycling was easy, and in many ways this notion was true for several decades. Then in 2018, we learned that China would no longer accept half the world’s recycling because the material they had been taking wasn’t recycling at all -- it was trash. What happened to the easy, feel-good origin of recycling, and what does modern-day recycling success look like now?
    For many of us today, recycling has become either more confusing or more frustrating than ever. In this class we will discuss what happened and how to prevent waste and recycle better than ever before.
    Jamie Rosenthal is in her seventh year as a Waste Zero Specialist for Recology in Ashland. She is a Jackson County Master Recycler, serves on the City of Ashland's Conservation & Climate Outreach Commission, and is a member of the Association of Oregon Recyclers (AOR) and the Oregon Refuse and Recycling Association (ORRA).
