  • Hey everyone! This week's video is of my very busy on call shift during a holiday weekend, I received over 20 samples tubes to work with! I forgot to mention in the video that for normal weekends I am on call 1 Saturday every other month & holiday weekends are on a volunteer basis since you're on call for two days.

I do not miss having to wait on couriers. My samples used to get delivered to the lab at different times each day.

Me either! I hated be on call because of all the work of meeting couriers and picking up samples. The extra pay was barely worth it lol.

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience. I have 5 years experience in a pharmaceutical cancer treatment facility, I also have biology degree , no formal certification. But I have done various laboratory work, especially with blood, (aseptic processing for immunotherapy - blood transfusion treatment) microbiology, basic chemistry. My goal is to become a travel MLS certified , but I really do not want to go back to school, based on the work I seen you do, I’m confident I can learn the role within a mater of few month by working in a lab. Do you think a potential employer will work with me to become ASCP certified , combining my prior experience and experience directly working in the role non-certified.

What kind of lab do you work in? I thought the lab never had "off days"?

Hey! I work in a molecular diagnostics lab that's open Monday through Friday. But there's always someone all call in case samples come on Saturday's. We don't accept samples on Sunday's. But I'm sure, for example, those who work in settings like hospitals don't have "off-days".
